Thanks. Two are working. The third board powers on automatically when you connect power and the power button will not turn it off. Aside from that it will work and play a game so I'm trying to figure out what that issue is.
sounds like trace corrosion issue

error 12 is a dvd error, the hard drive would probably still be booting with a few bad sectors. check the little yellow dvd power cable is connected correctly also

wet and dry sanding pads to get rid of the rust, then wipe over with a cloth and some wd40, not worth spraying unless its a crystal really.

i threw the boards i messed up but have about 10 fraggers, ive knicked the caps off a couple though, also have a few psu's / controller ports / fans if any use to anyone
-
trace corrosion possibly?
-
when i order the ebay cheap converters from china i order 5 or 6 at a time knowing that 1 or 2 will fail, as i never throw anything away ive got about a dozen dead ones now, i was thinking maybe it could be the cheap caps and whether it was worth trying to change caps on them to see any can be resurrected, a couple of them did work for a short time before dying so worth a shot?

i have attempted a 128mg upgrade twice over the past couple of years, both ended with fubar boards, i dont think my soldering skills/eyes are up to the job, if anyone in the uk wants any old xbox boards ive got quite a few

noi dont play online but had noticable input lag when playing any game on my downstairs tv, and the wii2hdmi adapter made it go away, have a look here, localhorst86's post was the technical explanation for it
-
This was the exact problem I was having, I made one of the wii2hdmi adapters using retro pro franks guide and it sorted the problem, so i would say yes any sort of hdmi mod would solve this

very nice work sir, it looks very clean! what are you running on it?
-
not really a problem, they can by lying down as long as the legs are making a good connection
-
thats a nice little mod, i am gonna give this a go on my next xbox project, thanks

is it dead without the xenium installed also?

you can swap the wires yep, the green wire on the duke controllers seems a bit more meaty, theres a white connector on the board and if you cut the legs off it with a sharp knife you can see the top of the pins that are going through the board, so you can solder directly to them, or join the wires if you like whichever you prefer. as the old saying goes though 'if it aint broke.....'

some info on different xbox games system links here: https://www.locopuyo.com/xboxlangames.html

try diff leads also, maybe try cleaning the video port with a cotton bud/q tip and a bit of alchohol, just incase a dirty contact
-
i re-used some out of an old sky box, they were really long but i snipped them down to size, it not really important as long as you dont push them through too far obviously, theres quite a bit of wiggle room

i remember having this issue with a samsung drive, if i remember correctly there was a little black spring peg that presses down when the tray mech moves across, i lubricated/cleaned this peg with a bit of wd40 and it did the trick

just a side note, when i hook up an xbox to the downstairs TV (which has one of the above composite to jack adapters) i was getting noticeable lag from the moment i press a button on the controller to the moment the screen does something, only a split second but enough to make the games unplayable, i was wondering if the modern TV does some kind of software rendering instead of having the built in hardware to deal with composite video maybe?, in the end i made a hdmi adapter from a wii2hdmi (retro pro franks youtube video) and it works well on the downstairs TV now.......when the wife lets me hook up to it anyway

ive repaired a couple in the past, the neatest way ive found to make the cable look good it to cut either side of the rubber gromit and the solid magnet thingy, pull out the wires and then drill the remaining sheathing out of them, if you get the correct width of drill bit you can then feed the cable back into them, super glue them in place then proceed to resolder, i didnt resolder like in the video though, i chopped the wires very close to the white connector on the board, then cut the tabs on the white connector to reveal the back of the pins and soldered directly to them. probably coincidence but in both cases it was the red wire that was not showing continuity from one end of the cable to the other. i had a few spare controller ports from old xboxes so i cut the connector off one and that helped me check for continuity along the controller cable

as different revisions have different video chips (focus/conexant) etc i would say it may be down to this if you have the issue on particular revisions, have you tried switching video modes?
