  1. Desoldering braid would clean this up, then flux and resolder, you havent got anything to lose if you are just going to scrap the board anyway, plus its the only way to get better soldering skills :)

  2. how was the original drive soft modded? ie sid / rocky5, also did you update the ms-dash before you softmodded it, if tsop'ing or hardmodding isnt an option then i would try unlocking the new drive, re-installing the stock 10gb hard drive, running ms-dash, loading a game such as halo 2 and updating ms-dash by trying to load xbox live, this will mean you need to re-softmod though, then clone the drive and lock.  also as its softmodded i assume you are cloning using hotswap method?

  3. just typing the same kaos - check the connections from the modchip to the board, particularly the d0 wire, if you can solder i would also suggest you re-do the modchip with a link from bt to ground so that the chip is always on, as the way they were originally installed was enable / disable depending on whether you short tapped the power button or held it for a second, this pic shows the bt to ground link

  4. instead of running chimp from memory card i would install to the drive you are trying to clone, you can use file explorer to copy from the mem card to the apps folder, then when you run chimp there are options for particular partitions to clone or byte by byte full disk, (to select full disk you have to click the right thumbstick in i think!)

  5. xmbc - will allow you to play media files

dvdx - will play dvds as long as your drive is working :)

if its the stock hard drive you wont fit many xbox games on (maybe 1 depending on the game!).  to get ftp going set to dhcp in network settings of unleashx, the ip will be displayed on the front dash as soon as you connect the xbox to your router, then the username and password are both 'xbox'.  have a think about upgrading the hard drive though in order to get the most out of it, then you can cram it with games and emulators
