  1. Hi Matta

You could just unplug it and leave the rest there or small cutters would also work. Don't cut it out untill you have  got you xbox booting from the on board BIOS.

To put the links on the main board to enable flashing you can use conductive paint. Look in auto parts shops for rear dimster repair paint or your electronics parts supply shop for PCB repair paint.

You need to link 2 spots 1 on the top and 1 on the bottom

    10top.jpg.033793240e5d9328ad6e6a7d6f5e27b6.jpg10under.jpg.c3e4329a2311caa576ef4c2dcaf83672.jpg

And the while you have the PCB out of the case you can remove the 25pin conector from the rear.

Replace the borad in the case but leave the DVD drive out but still conected then boot HEXEN with the chip conected then once is running you can unplug the chip then using HEXEN you can flash the TSOP.

If you want to try soldering get an old circuit board to practice on 1st.

Don't be scared to ask questions I would rather you ask than damage a board as that just makes more work.

Also if the pic you posted is from your mother board the clock cap looks like it's leaking and should be removed.

    Cheers

  4. Hi Matta

Mr Google has no info on the mod chip "flash xx chip"

Could you please download this https://www.dropbox.com/s/7ui199ic06tuf1s/BiosChecker_v50.zip?dl=0

It's a BIOS checking prg for the Xbox

Then unzip then copy to your xbox then run it.

Then let me know what it displays.

Also do you have a Hexens disk if not download it from the download section here that will ned to be burned to a DVD.

When burning any disks to be used in a Xbox burn them as slow as your burning software will allow.

    Cheers

  5. When you load XBPartitioner do you get screen like this

    IMG_20190816_183500.jpg.5b7221e984cad8ad2212071f856aa962.jpg

    Or this screen

    IMG_20190816_183531.jpg.30ee38e67ec0c7acf498028851e6651b.jpg

Both pics where taken from my 500 gig testing Xbox

You could try and pressing start and see what happens but remember you will more than likely lose every thing on the hard disk.

As the picks below show the same xbox above has got full use of the drive with G drive taking the remainilng space remember there are games installed on F and G Drives.

  6. What app are you using to look at the drives? and what version Xbox?

My ver 1.6 displays G drive using XBMC and Boxplorer

My ver 1.1 Dosn't display G drive but I have uploaded via FTP 40gig of games to G drive and they come up in the games list.

Something else for me to look at as too why on one box and not the other it could be the version of BIOS. I am sure that I have used ver 4981.67 but iI may be wrong.

    Cheers

  7. So do I it's something to do with the data that been read in a ver 1.6. even from cold boot after 1 minute it reports 45c when a noncontact thermometer shows 25c. Just go by the disk temp as a guide as it is above the 2 main chips.

My verision 1.6 which has been on for 4 days(I forgot to turn it off) and it's in a cupboard 1 shelf up from the reciver is showing  CPU 64.3c  SYS 64.0c Harddisk 39.0 the top cover temp is 24c.

So don't worry about it. All other versions report the right temps

    Cheers

  8. Sounds strange but as a ver 1.6 wont boot with out a Clock cap have you checked to see if there is voltage at the cap.?

There are plenty of  MOD chips cheap on flebay that will work, you will need to do a LCP conector rebuild which I dont think sould not be an issue for you.

  9. Yep you can swap the PCB's as long as same  make and model DVD's or at least the same laser part number.

A word of caution as the laser pickup can be static sensitive so some caution when handling them (disconecting and reconecting).

Normaly you should put a blob of solder on the protect pads DVD has two CD has only one before disconecting it and then remove the solder when it's reconected  but I normaly don't bother.

    laser protect pad's

While you have it apart clean the lens use a cotton bud moistened  wuth isprinol alcohol

  10. When your tring to solder to a circuit board and you damage it don't despair most stuff up's can be fixed

If you have ripped the trace off the Xbox circuit board you need to STOP and try to relax, Walk away from the job for a minute or ten or more if neaded

This is the trace that is damaged and need's to be repaired.Damaged_PCB.jpg.65ca792edc8ed3cf4d6f8b4b495fc2b8.jpg

This is a pic of a undamaged PCB same location.untouched.thumb.jpg.dd45b84bcc92aa8eb6f0ae5e05dd2435.jpg

The red wire is what was suposed to happenwire_on_D0.thumb.jpg.b69d6b991a7af812984ca0db1004ccf0.jpg

1st step Clean off the paint.

    1963678923_1Tracewithpaintremoved.jpg.be19f3f2b4803a9d80750d044420f0ee.jpg

I cheated and used a Glass fiber pen to do that but gentley scraping the track is ok you only nead to remove the paint.

    1158599507_1FiberPed.jpg.f2965aff5cc1754da19972d42daeb017.jpg1323367282_1FiberPenTip.jpg.5bb65f918ac22d13989ab6a87ae6b7f3.jpg

2nd Step Add flux to the board

    1180482434_1TracewithFlux.jpg.0ea2dd090018ee6a0c892cd563d52c62.jpg

    3rd Tin the trace

    2125886261_1TinnedTrace.jpg.30f490c52caca9ae2070c54add9182f7.jpg

4th Prep the wire you are going to use. I use wirewrap wire for a repair like this one as it's a single strand.

    1237117358_1WireIAmGoingToUse.jpg.45d64d5e0bcb57cf0964c3807aa028c5.jpg

5th Tin and trim the wire. I should have trimed it a bit shorter

    772491058_1WireThatsBeenTinnedandTrimed.jpg.99dbfb106afe9fcca64e929414b204db.jpg

6th Lay the wire on the tinned trace and apply heat.

    1239961257_1AtachedWireStillWithFlux.jpg.12b36995f23dac9ccf3e0a83f1157c17.jpg

    7th Clean up the PCB

    1379049360_1CompletedandCleaned.jpg.c47a5b0def5d2237f29495b26bf83fca.jpg

Now rince and repeat for the other end.

Once you have tested it and your happy a small dob of hot melt glue or even a dob(pin head sise) of super glue to stop the wire moving. Not on the solder joint say 5 to 10mm(1/4 inch) from the solder joint.

  11. All right  don't shoot me down in flames this is done this ruff and ready way because not every one is proficient in soldering.

1st prep your resistor and wire. You will notice that I have singled out 2 strands from the hookup wire.  Pre tin the wire strands and the leads of the resistor (tinning means apply a small amount of solder to the ends).657335145_resistor1.jpg.16b8a0d887d5a5f1028499be3340ecfa.jpg

2nd Solder the strands to the resistor. Then trim the strands to about 8mm(approx 5/16)

    1723181210_resistor2.jpg.f55ab4f33d71dd0e50d4a6d879f90f39.jpg

3rd Now apply flux to the points you want to solder to and tin them.

    133741036_resistor3.jpg.825c16cbbac54554c75f9f27be9c98d4.jpg

4th Now you can solder the strands to the pre tinned pads on the board.

    1089904753_resistor6.thumb.jpg.5df6f1b9a6064fb0e55dcdabdd7c4140.jpg

You should notice that I have linked from R7D2 to R7D3 with one of the leads getting ready for the TSOP Flash.

Yes the resistor is still on this board just pretend it's not there as I will undo work this later it's just to show you.

Also while your at it add a link R7R3 on the bottom.

Make sure that the leads are lifted up from the board a bee's dick(miniscule amount)so's not to short to any thing else.

As this is the top of the PCB you can now test the Xbox to ensure that it now boots corectly.

If all is good apply a drop of super glue or hotmelt glue to the resistor only not the solder joints. That way if need be you can still resolder the joints. It is ok for the resistor body to be glued to the board.

I have suggested this method to try and not cause any more damage to the board.

I hope this helps and if there is any thing your not sure about just ask.

Please let me know how you get on with the repair.

If your game after you have repaired the board and it's working post a pic of your work.

  12. I have been working in electronics for 30 plus years and soldering a resitor 1mm X 0.5mm with the right soldering iron is asking for more trouble.

I would also recomend you get some solder flux paste you will only need a very small amount like this

    https://www.radioshack.com/products/caig-rosin-soldering-flux-syringe-8g

That amount will be more than you nead.

Solder wise some thing like this.

    https://www.radioshack.com/products/rosin-core-solder-2-5-oz

Some of this is also handy to have to remove excess solder it listed as sold out but try some ware else.

    https://www.radioshack.com/products/desoldering-braid

I will do some picks later with how to fix it.

Any more questions don't be afraid to ask.
