I think I am typing this for my own benefit at this stage! Anyway, turns out the dude sent me a 1.6 PSU - so lucky eh? Anyway - next question - can I convert the pin out from a 1.6 to a 1.3? Dont all rush at once
I would highly recommend that you get the correct power supply the version 1.6 power supply's I have here are always hot even in stand by mode.
I have used a non contact thermometer and get temps around 45c in a room temp of 25c where as the others are always room temp in standby.
Plus the version 1.6 has a 5 volt in standby that would need switching off.

I have a 1.6 XBOX (I call it SpideyBox) with a bulging clock capacitor... and looking for a decent replacement from digikey our mouser. Located in the US.
Looking at Digikey part 604-1034-ND looks like it might be viable? That one will do the job fine.

Not really as just over 2 years ago Is stumbled across a torrent with 90% of the Xbox games in it from memory it was 1.6 terabyte zipped that I uploaded to a 2tb drive and no I can't remember where it came from.
Most of the games I had before I got the torrent where done by swapping games for Xbox upgrades. I mod you Xbox for a copy of your games I don't have type of thing.
You may have to wait until you get a bigger hard drive and then use DVD2Xbox.

Hi QuazyPat
What version of DVD2Xbox are you using I remember that some games had ACL errors when copping to a Xbox hard drive I just can't remember much more than that it' been that long since I have used DVD2Xbox 15+ years.

I don't think the circuit that's for the clock cap would charge NiMh batteries unless the Xbox was powered on for days possibly weeks even.
The clock Cap was only ever for short term time and date retention any way
Your best bet try a 2.5F 2.5 volt cap I don't think the circuitry around the clock cap would correctly charge any thing bigger or like me fit a network port in every room.

As the clock cap was only able keep the time for several hours replacing it is not really worth it..
All my Xbox's get the time and date set/updated via the internet on power up any way.

Is the Open Xenium chip similar the Aladdin XT? Or will Aladdin XT do the same thing? I’d like see how to edit the eeprom and lock the drive with a chip installed. Sorry for the noob questions, I have no experience with the chip mods.
Lets do baby steps and fit the chip you have ordered and get the Xbox running 1st

I had ordered an Alladin already. Will I have to flash it somehow before using? Keep in mind, I am trying to save a failed hd softmod.
Hi Swirlygiver
The BIOS that's supplied in the Aladdin chip will work with all Xbox's (version 1.0-1.6) I would say leave it as is for now.
You fit the mod chip and then you should be able to use a install disk(Hexen,Slayers, etc etc) to get the Xbox up and running.

Hi coptimus
I know where your coming from my 55+ year old eyes are not what they used to be and with out my goggles I can't read a computer screen so I use something like this'
80% of the time it's just a desk lamp the other 20% for close up work (fitting 100pin ram chips).I took a small PCB to the shop and tried it 1st.

Hi Bot_1
I took 4 weeks holidays in July 2019 and have not been back so it's been relaxing for me.
So with your mod chip I would remove the Orange from L1and the Red from L2 and the Yellow from the BT point then add a link from BT to Pin 2.
You can leave the D0 connected to ground.
The LED mods are some thing I have yet to do much with the only one I have done with LED's is to replace the eject ring for a blue only setup
This one is for a 7 year old .
As for the Aladdin mod chip I have 3 different styles it's the most cloned mod chip .
The one on the right was pulled from a non working box and the problem was crap soldering to the board had damaged the traces on the chip that's why the links to see if it still worked and it is working.
The middle one is a new one straight from china the I added the link for enable and the red wire is for the led switching via the 3.3 volt power in a version 1.6.There is a cut trace under the wire to disconnect the 5 volt supply.
With the version 1.0 you can flash the BIOS reasonably easily to save on the cost of a mod chip or fit a Aladdin chip to it as well.
I would flash it as the only chips I fit are in Version 1.6's
Cheers

1st thing is remove the clock and repair any damage and then add the links to enable the TSOP Flash.
If the OE drive is working I then copy the came save to the OE drive then load the game and reflash the BIOS.
If the OE drive is not functioning or not available then I do the following.
Fit the 10 gig drive after clock cap and links are added
On the 10 gig drive it has 3 sets of game saves
1 for 007 Agent Under Fire
1 for Splinter Cell
1 for Mechassalut
I use a Open Xenium chip edit the EEprom and lock the drive and when the drive is locked I remover the chip and the D0 link and boot to the MS dash and load 1 of the 3 games an run the game save then flash the TSOP with what ever BIOS I think is going to be needed.
After it's all flashed I unlock the drive with the same mod chip.
You can also make your own Xblast mod chip and do the same.

The mod-chip and TSOP flash have the same chance of failing it boils down to how work you want to put in to it.
Me I have a old 10gig drive that I use to lock to the Mother board with a mod chip then boot of the MS bios and flash with my own version of splinter cell hack, I then unlock the drive for the next main board that needs flashing.
Then load a install disk and format and install a new dash etc etc
There is others as well for 007AUF and Mechassault.

I thought maybe it would boot into HeXEn still. Is there a guide on here, on this specific case: temporary mod chip, HeXEn softmod install, TSOP, then remove mod chip?
I guess the question is do you pull the mod chip after the softmod install, then TSOP?
Yep Fit a mod chip lock the drive and remove the chip reflash the TSOP then remove softmod.
For the cost of an Aladdin chip (Around $4 usd) I would just leave the chip fitted unless you plan on using the chip in a different Xbox.

The Xbox won't boot off the 2nd drive as it's not locked to the Xbox so the short answer is no the quick easy way is to fit a mod chip and scrap the Soft-Mod.

The only difference between a version 1.2-1.4 US and Euro power supply is the input voltage with the same for the other versions as the output voltage is the same world wide.

You could try making a new Hexen disk and when your burning it set the write speed as slow as the burner will go , Also some USB style DVD/CD writers are slower than built in one's.
I also have a preference for Verbatim DVD-r disk's but you may need to try different brands and types DVD-r, DVD+r, DVD-rw it can be hit and miss.
As Admin has posted now that you can network in to the Xbox that's the most reliable way to get files on your Xbox.
And as it's been mentioned before the all the drives are getting to the end of there life and the 1st sign is having problems reading copied disk's and slightly marked ones.

Clock Cap Replacement, Best Alternative In 2020?
in Repair
Posted
In theory you could put a 10farad cap in place of the 1farad but would take 2 to 3 days to fully charge if it didn't damage the charging circuity with the inrush current.
