I have a modded OGXbox (I used the softmod where you had to switch HDDs while powered up, but it's been so long since I did it I've forgotten specifics) and I used an old Maxtor 100GB IDE drive.  I'd like to transfer all contents of this drive (including games and any special mod boot files) to a Seagate 1TB SATA drive.  This topic is a good starting point since it lists recommended SATA adapters.  But can someone point me to a topic that actually shows me how I transfer & clone the contents of my old Maxtor to a Seagate 1TB drive, if this is in fact even possible?  Thanks in advance.

The latest version of the Hexen disk has cloning software on it to do this and a bunch of other stuff. The process is not to taxng it just takes a while. You take the dvd out and use a molex splitter to power the HD, run the software and then just sit back and wait, make a coffee and it may be ready after drinking it.

  2. That’s an IBM drive. To my knowledge they didn’t build drives with vendor locked. Firmware, well not while I worked for them, so I think this is looking like just one of those bad incidents. This time our you may be granted better luck.

  3. Just a thought, where did the new drive come from,  reason is if you pulled it from a Branded pc, some of the manufacturers have been  know to put "special" firmware on the drives, which locks the computer owner to staying with them when upgrading the HDrive giving them an unsupported hardware error.  HP, Compaq, and Fujitsu have played this game I recall that Sony may have dabbled as well. Normally upgrading the drives firmware to the latest vanila version from the manufacturer fixes things.

Normally these drives work fine when not in the intended PC but in the past Ive seen some odd behaviour using them in other PCs , ghosted partitions that can be deleted but show up when partitioning the drive  and formatting issues when installing Windoze or Linux, dosent seem to be a problem when the drive is not being used as the boot  drive.

  4. I bought a few some weeks back specifically to use in my 1.6's, yet to put them in but they look like they are legit and are both well made and well packed.

Incidently they are also on Aliexpress and are cheaper, probably because the eBay seller is buying them from there and reselling them,

  5. Theres enough users here and on the other remaining xbox forums that would buy these, many more than one each. More than a few users on the av forums that use xboxes as media players would snap them up.  Even evilBay would likely be a market, afterall how many of us buy our boxes from there.

There are quite a few chinese companies who specialise in small batch production, and wouldnt be massively expensive. Many also do component build too.

Recently I read an article and watched related video on these places. Many working out of peoples spare rooms or tiny industrial units. The article had 5 boards taken from cad to printed boards made, in less than a week, and was very good quality.

Food for though also is still potentially licecencing or selling the rights, there are a few places who sell xbox mods and stuff still, theyd potentially be interested.

Quick money and no bother afterwards.

Its people like you who keep this scene alive afterall, There should be some kind of OG Xbox scene Kinghthood for you IMO.

  6. I am more than happy to buy as a kit. I spent years working in the electronics industry, spent my apprenticeship learning to work to military spec. Soldering correctly is an OCD thing to me. I hate it when I find commercial electronics not soldered correctly.

currently waiting on the delivery of a new rework station as I keep borrowing a friends one.

  7. I am up for these to be produced. I grow tired of my current set up of component cable to external hdmi convertor and its limited monitor compatability.

let me know when you are on for production etc, or if you need some one with a odd ball set up to test them. I use a video switcher on one of my screens that my current convertor seems to randomly hate/not hate.

  8. It could be the Smc is broken on the psu. It’s a common thing on pc psu’s which the Xbox psu is a version of, albeit a heavily modified one. You should be able to simulate the power button press by connecting two of the cables in the multi plug. Can’t remember which ones and I’m not at home so can’t check. Basically if the psu doesn’t power up the hd and hold it powered when doing this test it will be the smc circuit on the psu. They can be replaced but most people just get a replacement psu instead.

as said there is a way to plug a pc power supply in to an Xbox, google it as iirc for the 1.4 version it’s not to hard to build the conversion lead etc. Might get you out of a hole and help you on the way etc.

  9. So basically you need a uk spec powersupply, as they are 220/240v

that said it could be the power button. You  could test it with a mulitmeter.

there is a way to put a normal atx pc psu onto an xbox. So you could look at that.

Its not as simple as just plugging in though.

  10. A different tac on this might be to try a correct voltage psu for the box. Someone on here is bound to have a spare that they could mail to you. That way you are running it with out the voltage convertor and if indeed it is the cause youll know fairly instantly.

Im guessing that as you are going 220 to 110 you are in the states in which case there are quite a few users on that side of the pond.

  11. It does look clean.

Do you have a volt meter ?

I would if you can test the ouputs on the powersupply. Obviously being very careful as the whole thing is nor shielded etc.

There are pin outs showing what volts should be present where etc.

yours is one of the later psu types with a similar plug to a computer.

Before that though check the solder on the back of the psu, especially where the mains connector is as the solder cracks under load and use, if there are cracks you just need to resolder it to get rid of the cracks etc.

It could be as simple as that., obviously it helps if you have more than one Xbox to play with for testing bits.

Where are you based there may be a member near by who could help etc.

  12. They are quite common in the UK too. I have several and my orginal still in its box :)

That said the retro tax has begun to creep in and is pushing prices up.

Carboot and garage sales seem to be the best bet as people usually have no clue on values.

spraying clear boxes from the inside with clear spray is a winner though.
