When downloading any packages to your computer there is still a default .xbe in them. and all Xbox apps/games have a default.xbe they have to or you cannot ever launch anything  Instead of a .exe which the computer reads for launching programs and apps, the xbox has a .XBE XBOX Executable. The XB stands for XBOX and the E stands for executable.

Anyway I downloaded the Gamers - Emustation Artwork Stuff from the following link:

    https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1a3ZaFTuuu5L7lDbnOjmA5tlHhrwpWFKC?usp=sharing

Which is the link found in this topic:

I am now going to copy and paste an exact quote from the Topic Creator:

Yet there isn't a single default.xbe anywhere in that package which means there is no possible way to run the installer at all. Furthermore the xbox reads the following extensions for images png - jpg - tbn - bmp (The proper dashboard still has to be used as some dashboards cannot read certain image files.)

Anyway after looking through the package, there isn't any proper file extensions for the xbox to read either.

Someone needs to create the proper picture formats so the dashboards can read it and say what dashboard those pictures go with, place those pics in the properly named folder, .rar that folder, and uploaded it.

All someone needs to do then is download it, unpack the .rar file, and copy the folder that has all the pictures in it, onto the proper section of the xbox.

Right now there isn't even a way to run any of this off a disk or the HDD.

it's a complete shit show with no clear simple easy instructions.

I shouldn't have to still connect the xbox to the net to download what I already have just to get it to run.

This whole thing is a major and complex mess.

I don't know... I'm just guessing but did it occur to you that the downloader is supposed to run on the pc and then you ftp the files to your xbox?
The topic creator is the creator of the current softmods, and numerous other invaluable programs we all run on our Xboxes. He's not going to put something out that doesn't work. It's more likely that you are misunderstanding the purpose.

For those that are interested I have written some documentation on the EEPROM. There's still a bit of research to do but for the most part it's complete and as far I can tell, is the most robust documentation on the subject. Let me know if you spot any mistakes/misinformation or something I missed

    https://github.com/feudalnate/Original-Xbox-Data-Structures/blob/master/EEPROM/README.md

I would have edited this into my original post but this usergroup doesn't have edit permissions

Great writeup... for the values "extended slow", "slow", "typical", etc... I wonder if those could be due to the memory test on bootup.
Since Samsung sold MS some shit memory chips, the Xbox had to test their stability on boot at various speeds trying to find the lowest common denominator of the 4 memory chips. This is why some Xbox's seem faster than others in spite of them having the same cpu and gpu.
So I suppose those addresses could be various memory clocks that the Xbox can set on the fly.
I wouldn't think you'd need all of the addresses if it were just making a note of which one was stable as that could be a single address and value.

This is obviously all speculation and could be completely wrong. Just thought I'd offer it up.

    Hi Guys,

I'm trying to fix an xbox which takes about 5minutes to boot. It is a softmoded V1.6 and I swapped its dvd driver from a Samsung (which I need for my main xbox) to a Philips (very temperamental and reads just some original games). I don't know why but the slow boot is related to the dvd drive, as it boots in a flash when connected to his original dvd drive. Anything I can do to solve the issue keeping the Philips drive?

    Thanks a lot!

When disc drives go bad, they don't read well. Think of older people getting cataracts. It's pretty similar except there is no lasik surgery. There is only the very poor option of pot tweaking.
So basically upon boot the xbox checks the disk drive to see if there is media in there it should boot, else it boots the dashboard. Since your drive is on its way out, it has no clue if it has a disk in the drive or not and checks until the timeout period is up.
There are bios' that skip this check I believe... which would speed up your boot time.

Edit: You could prove or disprove this theory by ejecting the drive during this time and not closing it again until you see the dash. Did the dash come up quicker?

    Thanks for the quick reply!
The Xbox boots into the original dashboard and there are no logos or other signs of a modification. Is this normal for this type of mod, or do I need to pay attention to something?
    And one last question:
What exactly does this modificaton. What functions does this chip offer?
    Thanks for your help!

    IMG_20210220_193725.jpg

Hold the power button down for several seconds and see if it behaves differently.
The chip itself doesn't do anything other than allow a custom bios to boot. This is what circumvents all the protections and allows you to play homebrew and emulators.

this looks great, the main problem i have is the whole sbc thing is just not noob friendly, i downloaded a so called sdr raspi complete image and it was totally useless, the only one i could recommend is the retropie image because a lot of work has been done to make it plug and play.

the truth is that 9 times out of 10 you need to be an advanced user to to get these things running properly,

if a new user cannot pick it up and get it running first time and then learn from there its a waste of time, someone buying a pi with a view to learn how it works and make their own projects quickly throws it to one side at the first problem, and its because a certain level of knowledge is expected to debug and set up the single board computer, which is totally ludicrous for a so called learning platform.

what you need to do is if you design and make a device like this, is make it fool proof, get the oldest cheapest raspberry pi and base it on that but make it run on newer ones as well this is because more users can make use of it and they are more likely to have an older pi lurking in a drawer somewhere,

then make the software an image they can load up and run straight away, getting the thing to work should be as easy as altering settings in the ui, if it has a desktop make it as windows like as possible, verbose mode and command line just puts new users off.

sorry for the rant,  another fantastic use of the raspberry pi, someone needs to work on an xbox version but it needs to be useable by xbox users not raspi enthusiasts.

i could make it work, so could you probably, but we need a device that a numpty can install, that just works, just like an xbox dvd drive does.

I hear you but here is why it is this way:

People figuring things out and freely giving that information out expect the recipients of that free information to figure out how to use it.

People looking to turn a profit will make things nice and slick so the end user has to do as little as possible.

There is always a price to pay. If you want things for free you'll have to do some work. If you have money to burn you probably won't.

hi guys i know this question has probably been asked before but i cant find an answer. once i have soldered the 2 points on a 1.2-1.5 softmodded xbox and done  the tsop flash   do i remove the solder so they not connected or leave it on?

    cheers for your help

Those enable the tsop to be written to. So if you're going to have kids messing around with the xbox, either remove Evo X so it can't be flashed anymore from the console, or remove the jumpers. Most leave the jumpers connected.

Needing money is all well and good, but holy moly, this is an awful way to go about it. It took forever to figure out how to cancel that $2 per day charge - that's just scummy. Do better.

You chose it at sign up. There was a checkbox for "recurring".
I have cancelled that particular 2 dollar per day membership as there were several people that didn't pay attention and due to a limitation of the forum software... that was the only way to do it. So that is now gone. It was done for convenience but people just weren't quite able to pull it off so I killed it. This site actually does not need money.

Just to be clear... this site started out with no sort of paid option. The only reason they exist was by request so people could get past certain limitations that were in place to make the cost to me manageable. Thus if people want to bypass them, a small fee is required to offset the overage they will cause. So it works quite well but I could just remove those options, nobody could invoke overages and thus no need to offset.

I disagree with the total truthfulness asserted above. Rather, it is only fair to allow the troubleshooter or OP, to determine when they believe they have beat an area of research dead and when it is probably a good time to give attention to something else that  they may have missed. In my case, such as what exactly happened when I flashed the file? Therefore, I would like to explore the software end of this question which has not been thoroughly addressed yet.

As I mentioned it was after a software change when the XBOX began failing. I politely suggested the search for how I could use a multimeter in this scenario and more specifically what I might look for on specific test points. A more scientifically sound endeavor. I will suffice to add that in comparing my multimeter values on random points on the broken board with a known working board I have found all values are very similar so far.

I am attempting to source sophisticated and matured responses and information rather than immediate replies. I do not typically expect immediate replies from forum posts.

    Your disagreement is not well-founded.

You flashed the TSOP with an image that isn't able to boot. Then you installed a modchip which essentially replaces the tsop if you hold d0 low (to ground).
Assuming it is soldered correct, the chip is good, and has an appropriate and good bios on it, it would boot. It should also show the Xenium OS whether it has a good bios or not.

If it doesn't boot, you're not yet at the software level. The bios is a rom that initializes the hardware and allows it to function. So with all due respect, you can't start looking at software issues until the hardware boots. If a bad flash indeed caused this, then SS Dave was on the right track.

Hopefully this makes sense to you.

    I'll also say that:
    1. You caused the issue
    2. You don't know how to fix the issue

So don't tell people in what ways they should tell you how to fix the issue. It's the most absurd approach I've ever seen.

Yes I did have my component cable attached to my TV in one of those Samsung 2.5 inch jack plugs that split into the component and audio.

I'm still going to have a go with the OSSC as the picture quality was a bit soft. You can set passthru and add scanlines to give a more nostalgic look and tweak other things with a 480p signal. I am right in that its best to set the BIOS to NTSC as PAL only outputs 480i ?

I believe the TV should also be set to "gaming mode" to avoid the TV attempting to tidy up the image an avoid lag.

    Thanks for your help

It's best to set it to NTSC and 720p. Bypass the OSSC and it won't be soft.

Thanks I'll look into that. The OSSC makes my Mega Drive look amazing, I just presumed the same could be achieved on the XBOX.

Yeah it will make all of your consoles that output 240p look amazing. The Xbox can output 720p or 1080i. So you don't need a line doubler. You just need something to convert the component signal to hdmi if your tv doesn't have component inputs.

Hello everyone from a lockdown England 🐵

I have just bought an OSSC and have a component cable for my x3 modded XBOX.

Its a UK XBOX and I have set the BIOS to NTSC to allow for 480p RGB output.

Does anyone have any experience or recommended OSSC settings for my UHD TV?

Could you share your profile json?

    Thanks in advance

Don't use an OSSC for Xbox. It's a line doubler.
You should just get an xbox to hdmi adapter or even a cheap component scaler off of amazon.

    Nothing bad about this ^^

Reddit is a maze the search through and filled with people who think the Xbox discs spin/read backwards.   Xbins still exist and is mirrored.   I'd donate without downloads if you were going to take the spot of X-S.

    Cheers.

We may fall short of the magic that was X-S... but the goal is to become as much like it as possible. Your participation here is as valuable as any donation.

back in the early days of my working on xbox's, i used these caps https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DYJERPC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to replace the thre in front of the cpu/gpu. can anyone tell me if they are good for this application or do i need to change them?

Nichicon are good caps if they are authentic. There are certain sellers that slap a nichicon label on an inferior cap and resell it for more than it's worth.

Hosting and bandwidth costs money, yes. This is why google drive, dropbox, mediafire, mega.nz, onedrive, sugarsync, box, elephantdrive, idrive, pcloud, livedrive, hightail exist. You get my point. This rule is f*cking dumb.

    Regards.

You missed the point. Your post was made under the premise that we exist to provide you with downloads. We don't. Nobody owes anybody else anything, and we certainly do not owe you or anyone else downloads.
We exist to build a community and preserve the knowledge. The files exist NUMEROUS places. The knowledge is actually more scarce than the files since Xbox-Scene went under. So that's our purpose and that's why this rule isn't "f*cking dumb". The fact that this was spelled out in the OP and you STILL didn't get it means you are though.

    Hello,

I have used the official component cable for my original Xbox for years without any issues, until now. This is what happens:
    https://youtu.be/RihPxD0JcB0

This only seems to happen on menu's. No problems in-game so far.

At first, I thought the cable was damaged, so I bought a Kaico HDMI adapter to replace it, but this is what happens when I use it:
    https://youtu.be/iLw4o2IqtGE

I decided to grab my older Xbox from the attic for testing and both cables work perfectly on that console, so I think the cables are not the issue.

I'm no expert at all, so can somebody tell me what's going on with my console? Can it be fixed?

    Your videos are private.

  16. I think an ODE would be VERY useful. ISO's of the entire library on a hdd connected as the dvd drive would free up the regular hdd for apps, media, and emulators.

    Softmodding would be incredibly easy.

If this were running on something like a raspberry pi with gigabit nic, uploading games wouldn't take long at all.
It could really expand the possibilities. If I had the know-how I would do it. I just don't at present.
