  1. Please try to check your TV's configuration. At least my LCD overlaps the Dash's settings if it is in auto-mode (both video and sound). Check if your TV isn't changing to mono when the game starts.
  2. I've tried everything on the remote's menu, and a bunch of internet suggested button combinations to access Panasonic's service menu. Nothing worked. Today my 6 month old daughter picked up the remote and a never seen menu appeared on the TV. I just screamed "Where did you pressed??". So .. there's a specific button only for the format adjustment, by default my TV was in "auto mode" which decided to put every xbox game into 4:3 + overscan.
  3. Thank you for your answers @HDShadow and @prtscn much appreciated, Will try to access that service menu (didn't know such thing existed) over the next few days and I'll let you know if it works. Once again, thank you so much.
  4. Good morning, I have an issue with my screen that's very annoying. As you can see on the picture below, both sides of the screen are streched (it can be seen by the size of the icons), apparently to fill the screen. This is very troublesome because when I ' m playing any game it gives a "lensy" feeling, which is not good at all. Pretty sure that it is something related to the TV since I've tried with another Xbox with the same result. Also tried SCART and composite cable with the same result tio. Did this happen to anyone? How did you fixed it? Thanks in advance
  5. Does anyone have one of those universal rom programmers? I saw that you can flash a custom bios using those (Cerbios as an example)? If so, any product recommendation?
  6. Thank you for the help guys. I'll try to hardmod that Xbox then , as soon as I'm able to that I'll provide further feedback. It might be useful for people that are facing the same issue. Cheers
  7. Thank you Bowlsnapper , your comment was both useful and funny Cheers
  8. Any suggestion regarding which modchip to pick? As far as I can see only Aladdin os available to ship to where I am (Ali Express --> Portugal). Thank you so much
  9. Dave , fortunately the DVD is fine. I tried another working DVD (Samsung) from another console and got the same error. Also the original DVD (which is a Thomson) worked fine on another Xbox console. Bolofski, that might be an idea , do you think that the BIOS might be corrupted? I still don't get why that FIFA 2005 demo plays perfectly fine. The console seems 100% capable of delivering everything, sound , video , etc. Cheers
  10. Sorry to revive this old post. MadMartigan, is it possible to mod the Xbox without using the DVD tray at all? As far as I can see the sofmod needs a game to run the Rocky software. Cheers
  11. Tried every setup. No further improvement unfortunately. Thanks for the advice though
  12. Hi Dave, weirdly it does have and error code when there is an issue. The first time I've re-assembled the Xbox I forgot to connect the cable to the DVD , and it displayed the number + error message as soon as I turned the Xbox on. I do think it is the 1.0 because it does have that fan over the heatsink. The error only shows up when I try to play any game. Never payed much attention itself if there is any indication when the error comes up, but I do think it only flashes green. Cheers
  13. Thanks @MadMartigan, I'll post a picture as soon as I'm back home. But is just a black screen with that message on the middle. I'm able to solder , been learning over the past few months. I'll take a look on your advice since I'm totally unaware of that procedure (or what TSOP actually means ). Bolofsky I'll try to have a look on the settings too, the screen does flicker a bit before displaying the message. And the FIFA 2005 demo displays a weird texture on both sides of the screen, it looks like it is strechted somehow. Thank you both
  14. Hello OGxbox! I'm Aníbal , 35 and I'm from Portugal - Aveiro. I'm a retrogaming enthusiast and a competitive chess player. I got into repair electronics a few months ago and that led me to the amazing Xbox world. I just softmodded my first console and I'm very excited to find out a lot more about the Xbox. Cheers!
  15. That cap is a bit nudgy, but nothing seems to be leaking from there. Also , if I'm not wrong, the Xbox is suppose to work even if that capacitor is removed.
  16. Hi , thank you for the reply. The DVD is fine. I actually tried another working DVD from another console and got the same error. Also the original DVD (which is a Thomson) worked fine on another console.
  17. But that's some weird job from the previous owner , it seems that somehow he has shortened those 2 points with pour soldering and then tried to scratch that bridge.
  18. I would replace the fuse and try to start from there, at least to see if it works. It is possible that the fuse has due to an external current peak or something.
  19. Good evening, I'm trying to fix an xbox that I've bought online that states the "Your Xbox requires service" with no error code everytime I try to play a game. Weirdly there is one game that I'm able to play. A crappy demo CD with a few games, and I can only play the FIFA 2005! The xbox was unopened when I bought it and I already managed to debrief a few things, the DVD player is fine, the IDE cables that connect the DVD to the motherboard also seem fine (tested the dvd power connector for continuity on each pin). Since I'm able to use the main dashboard I can also access the hard drive, it lets me erase save's , so it seems that the xbox is able to read and write on the HDD. At this moment I'm not sure what to explore further , nothing too weird on the motherboard too, all caps seem fine. PSU doesn't seem to have any trouble too.. Any ideas? I'm lingering towards something in between the PATA and the MCPX.. but it seems like a longshot. Thanks in advance!
  20. I believe I have the same problem as you. Although I can only play a demo game. I was running out of clues after replacing the DVD drive (which works fine on other Xbox) but I never thought about the HDD.
