Are you saying dumb the ones I already have? I have already cut it down to only ONE year of each sports franchise. I might try that but keep the list of years of each franchise I did research on to determine "the best year" just in case I do end up having room. I'm going to do another sweep through my top 323 and see if there are any I could probably leave out due to their current lack of popularity or some other reason.

Thank you for saying the rules seem fair but I am having trouble enforcing them on some games that I know little about.

Would you mind posting this list once you've finalized it? If it changes, that is.

Not really. Different parts of the word have different restrictions and use different video/audio tech. Another reason each region had to have different Roms was censorship and (I’m not joking here) intelligence. In the early days Japan didn’t think the western market was smart enough or to put it nicely, had less attention span and games were changed from tiny details due to censorship to even entirely new games with the same name. Best example I can think of is Super Mario Bros 2. Western market got a completely different game in Doki Doki Panic. Which we got many years later renamed The Lost Levels

Sorry. I was referring to the clocking/speed differences between PAL and NTSC.

Although that is interesting info that you just mentioned!

Does SNES really have separate for SNES and PAL? There is no setting in the emulator for PAL/NTSC?

Reason for asking is that I know that on SEGA most ROMs are multiregion. For example SONIC runs 20% faster on NTSC consoles when using the same cartridge on a genesis vs EU megadrive. There are only a handful region locked in SW, Streets of rage/bare knuckles is probably the most famous one. You can also make the console region free with a soldering iron and a Arduino nano. So I wouldn’t be surprised if nintendo applied the same tactic.

"Faster" meaning a higher framerate, or that the game runs faster than it's supposed to? Makes me think some roms are coded for timing around the framerate.

  4. It shouldn't matter if they're zipped. The emulator takes the rom and loads it into memory. It runs from there.

PAL games run at 50hz (25fps) and NTSC at 60hz (30fps). I can't imagine why a region type would cause a performance hit relative to max framerate... The emulator should know what to do with a PAL rom on an NTSC machine.

You know that there are to versions of the disk? One is made only for HD+ users without a BFM bios.

Same way as for a non HD+ XBox. Write the image with HDDRawCopy on your PC to your 2 TB HDD.

    ... Oh.

    😛

    Hi,

i just finished rescuing and polishing up a almost dead 1.6 (dead HDD, dead Fan, 5 leaked capacitors and a burned power supply fuse) which now almost works - except for the following issue:

As soon as the system has been booted, the CPU / GPU temperatures are rising to 64 °C almost immediatly and coherently. Then, it turns off after a few minutes.

    What i already tried:

    1. Fully cleaned and removed the old thermal paste and replaced it (holy crap, the one on the GPU felt like tarred road)
    2. Hard-tweaked the BIOS to run the Fan at 40% instead of the default 20%

Both actions did not had any impact on the issue.

    System configuration:

Alladin Modchip, EvoX M8+ 1.6 BIOS, UnleashX Dashboard (grabbed the version from the OGXBox Installer Disc), Noctua 60 mm 12 V Fan, Noname PATA-SATA Adaptor with 256 GB SATA SSD, new 80 Pin PATA Cable.

Any ideas what else i could try? I don't want to flash the BIOS in the current situation because of the general system instability but would perform it with a external programmer if necessary.

I respect the fact that you were able to identify all those issues and rectify them. Nice work. Were the caps causing any functional issues, or was it just a proactive measure?

Wanted to give ya'll an update in case anyone runs into a similar issue where the 4K tv is having a hard time playing 480p content through HDMI.

Along with the Pound HDMI Cable, i plugged in a Marseille mClassic. This thing works AMAZING. It got rid of the issues with the Pound Cable dropping out on 480p games and made all the other games look MUCH better. While I do not doubt that the XBOXHD+ mod gives a better result for the same price ($140 for XBOX HD+, $30+$99 for POUND+Marseille mClassic). This is a great alternative for those who do not want to solder those ribbon cables and replace little resistors. It also keeps the unit Semi-Stock. The only downside is two micro usbs will need to be plugged into the Pound Cable and the Marseille mClassic.  The benefit is if you have multiple Retro/Old-school systems going into a Media Unit with an HDMI out to the TV, you can put the Marseille mClassic on the out to TV and upscale all your retrogames. I have a Wii, a Xbox360, an Xbox, and ps3 all running through this upscaler.

The OpenXenium modchip is the latest released.  They were selling for $20; however, today they sell for $35. Shop around on ebay as prices vary greatly from one seller to another.  It supports multiple BIOSes and has its own Operating System, XeniumOS, that controls the modchip's feature set.

Aladdin XT plus 2 (aka Aladdin XT 4032) clones used to be $4 each. Today they are $15 or more. So, the OpenXenium does cost more but has a lot of additional features.

See Ryzee119's github repository for more information - Ryzee119/OpenXenium - Open Source Xenium Modchip

The Aladdin XT plus 2 clones only have 1 256KB BIOS bank and no additional features such as an FTP server or utilities to prepare a new hard drive that the OpenXenium has.

There's also the XeniumICE by NeMesiS. Another clone of the original Xenium modchip but with the original's same form factor.

Glad to know I'm not alone in my opinion that the openxenium is the superior chip and well worth the few extra bucks.

Boy, I wish we could get R3dux rolling...

To be honest,  during the past 20 years I always took my consoles to experienced fellas who did the modding, for example chipping the PS1, or bought the consoles that were already modded, and usually there was only one main method like for example the ps3 with rogero cfw + multiman, and they were easy to set up. But now no experienced services modding xboxes, and I have an unmoded xbox so I dont want to buy an other one just because its already modded. And xboxes quite hard to mod for me, because i need a bunch of tools i dont have ( for example splinter cell) and I am not familiar with soldering either :/ But i guess I have to learn it because nobody would help me I mean personally, so I ask here the questions that my brain pop out and found no answer in forums

Okay. Yeah, softmodding is easiest for people with no real hardware modification skills. But i really don't recommend it, for a number of reasons. But it just isn't as great as a hardmod and often requires you to jump through hoops to do something that a hardmod would enable you to do in seconds or just minutes. Plus, it's really easy to fuck up your installation if you're not careful. A hardmod is the way to go. I would't doubt that somebody here would do the install for you, if you asked.

    A ps1 was the 1st console i modded when i was 9. Only 4 wires! :)
