  1. Modding Xboxes back in 2005 actually taught me alot about how computers work, with how similar it was to a PC. I had great enthusiasm as well. It was a big part of my life.

Thank you for creating this forum, which has become an impressive repository of information and a place where very knowledgeable people like Kaos and Dave can answer questions that nobody can. The original xbox will always have a place in my heart and Iˋm glad aplace like this exists to preserve that passion and information for all of us. I never want it to die.

Thanks very much to you, Mr. Admin. :)

  2. Since your files still seem to be accessable (just not launchable from that partiton), I would make a copy of your whole HD, preferrably hooked up directly to a PC, do a full format, and then copy everyting back over. Itˋs worth a shot.

    Tell me about it, haha.

The only thing at this point that I haven't replaced which I haven't ruled out 100% is the IDE/SATA adapter and the top case shorting something when it's on. However even if the issue is caused by one of those, the Xbox should power back on whenever the top case is removed or the adapter is unplugged, which is not the case.

I have heard of the sata adapters shorting against the metal casing of the HDDs that theyˋre mounted\plugged into. People usually just cover the pcb with some masking tape or something to prevent it. Does the adapter smell like burnt electronics? If not, does any area of the mobo smell like burnt electronics? Thatˋs one old school method I use to diagnose without a multimeter. Lol.

Hello, I managed to split the XISO of Enter The Matrix, but when I ran it, It goes back to dashboard. Im using latest EvoX m8+ noDVD 480p 256kb BIOS. image.png.64fbf39b657cb0cc5ab09856421b1e45.png

Also, want to know how to mount an small XISO (I dont have or dont know how to create attach.xbe)

It seems faster, safer, and better to have ISOS on the Xbox than millions of small files, specially, when transferring them.

You do end up with less files to move around. But the trade off is that you donˋt have access to your game files and canˋt modify the game directory in any way. Also, theres the extra step of mounting the ISO, and the process of unmounting and remounting whenever you want to change games. Itˋs like automatic transmission or Mac ownership to me: Iˋve never understood the appeal. It offers convenience with the sacrifice of control... Although Iˋm sure lots of people disagree.

  5. Wow. This project is accumulating some impressive momentum. This is really awesome. I never thought Iˋd see another bios again. I wonder if a config menu like X3CL could be implemented in some way, even if the settings\values have to be stored on the HDD instead of flash. I would donate hundreds of dollars for that, at LEAST.

Back in the 90’s we used to do it, it was cool the first few times then got old as the drives always die prematurely. The only way to properly do it is with a clean room and a donor drive to give you the parts to mod prior to fitting.

If you work in electronics and have access to a clean room go for it.

For everyone else a clean room is not you going round with a duster and a quick tidy up prior to doing it.

Thank you for the info. I actually did decide that buying 2 identical 2TB drives was the way to go, specifically for the reason you mentioned. I will modify the donor plate to completion, and then swap it to the other drive under a cleanroom hood, which is the only option I have without access to a real cleanroom.

For bigger hdd and insignia support i will gladly drop the x3 bios for this.... I just hope the manage to include support for the x3 lcd screen so it wont be wasted.

Its a shame no one ever managed to decrypt the x3 bios and add these things to it.

I agree with the entirety of this post... but why wouldn't the X3 support insignia? Won't insignia use the same IPs/Addresses that XBL 1.0 did for turnkey compatibility?

I really do wish the X3bios were reverse engineered/hacked. SO much potential...

I don't understand either... the switch is usless from my experiance, at least for xbox games. Not sure if there is any difference for movies or emulators... but emulators works all fine for me except of "Ninja Massive Pack"... have to use KAWA-X for Neo Geo Games...

It's really not easy to make all the games work on a 1,4Ghz... some games requier 128MB patch, some not... some require Trusty 1400 patch, some FriendTech... sometimes you have to patch multiple *.xbe files... and some games worked after I patched manually with HxD, for example "Manhunt".

So far it seems like I can't get 72 out of 761 games to work.

I've seen the jump from 733 to 1400 make a difference in emulators for sure. 720 patched games like Halo CE and Doom 3 can take advantage of the extra power too, to boost framerates. Video that struggles, like 720p video, drops many less frames at 1400. I guess there really is no functional benefit to it, then? That sucks.

Question about the Midnight Club series. I was more of a Need For Speed guy so never really played this. Would having just Midnight Club 3 suffice for the game? I included all the Need For Speed games except the first underground because I feel like they each stand on their own. I did not include the first underground because of how inferior it is to Underground 2. Wondering about the relationship between Midnight Club II and Midnight Club III. Was Midnight Club III a better version of II or do both stand on their own?

NFSU2 fucking RULES. MC has crap physics.

Thought the same, but it does not work for some reason.

"XBMC3.5.3 - System Info" showes no difference either if I flip the switch, it's always 1402,XX MHz.

The reduction circuit doesn't actually reduce the clock speed, so you wont see an application report that. It somehow kills every other cycle to achieve half performance. I wish i understood how. However, if supposedly reducing performance to 733mhz (stock) eqivalent speed doesn't enable compatability with timing-sensitive games, then I'm not sure what the flying fuck its practical purpose actually is.

I wish somebody would be willing to explain why OG xbox games are set up in a way that causes them to vary in speed depending on clockspeed and PC games are not. PC games just vary in performance/framerates.

    WTF? Why?

  11. 7 hours ago, Onaga said:

Hey, yes have a switch! Why? (Use full speed all the time).

I have a CPU rebuild from N64 Freak.

Managed to fix some of the games from my list above. I'm going to show a full list of all my games that work and a list of the games I can't get to work.

Just wondering if flipping it to halfspeed basically fixes the overspeed problems. I thought that's why the performance reduction circuit was used in the interposer design.

Speed comes second to the fact that the StarTech adapters I've used all boot up every single time, while the three or so generic adapters make it like a coin toss.

Indeed. Startech makes a statistically more reliable and solid product. You get what you pay for.

Thank you for the list of problem games. That will help me some on my cpu journeys.

Do you have a halfspeed switch for your cpu?

If the game didn’t play off HDD drive before, now they do without issue. By definition, flawless is without flaw.

I’m just the messenger man. You asked and I delivered an answer. I am in no way arguing semantics.

Edit: There is a strong argument that this is even better than what it was designed/intended/coded to do. No more scratches, dirty disc errors, misalignments, degradation,  and even shorter load times in some cases.

LMAO, buddy. :) Just trying to understand why the feature is desirable/useful. That's all. I'm sure it must be for a reason or they wouldn't have implemented it. I don't want to be an ignorant tool so i'm trying to determine the reason instead of running with the assumption that it's pointless. You explained it well enough, marty. :)

Well the main advantage for some ppl is as stated before and that is “FLAWLESS”gameplay, including the handful of previous games that had file sizes too large to play from the HDD. So there’s a handful of benefits for you right there lol.

It also has the feature to customize your boot animation.

It’s a new and steadily updated project aimed at cutting through all the red tape that was obstructing so many things before now. (Behind the curtains)

And of course it may possibly support up to 16TB soon as we all know by now.

I’m Im sure there’s more that someone else can provide.

"Flawless" as in, it avoids the potential issues a game might have operating out of some directory on the HDD, which it wasn't designed/intended/coded to do, and instead runs from a virtual optical drive for compatibility reasons?

    Flawless game play with .iso

How popular or in-demand is iso use, as opposed to game directories, though? I know iso support makes it easier to download a game and copy it over and, thus, cutting out mulleter/qwix, but is that the only real benefit?

  17. Anybody else ever have an issue with the GBA game saves? Pokemon in particular? The gamesaving has been very sporadic and unreliable and I've resorted to using savestates only... which makes me nervous. I've set the save type to "Flash" and to 128k, but this still does not fix the issue? Should I not even bother understanding this and move on with my life? I'm starting to think so. It just seems like a dumbass bug for such a well developed emulator, you know?
