I have a softmodded xbox running xbmc emustation, my main question is does anyone know why the light would sometimes be half red / half orange? Other times it looks fine and does the normal orange color for softmodding. Even though it's half red / half orange it still seems to run and operate just fine. Anyone else have this?

I'm assuming that those LEDs are triple pole and that there are two separate anodes in the LED bulb. It would take a combo of both to be orange (Red and Green). My guess is that one of the positive lines for green has been severed by rot, leaving that LED without green light to mix with the red for orange. Might want to check for that.

That theory can NOT account for intermittence, however, like you're describing. I'm assuming that the LEDs are SUPPOSED to be orange when you're running it the way you are, correct? I'm assuming this is meant to indicate that a BFM bios has been loaded for the softmod?

  2. So, this machine is running an X3 with a 160GB IDE drive. I wanted to mount some isos, since I won't have access to Mulleter for a little while and I need to download/install a few of the games that insignia is supporting. I went ahead and flashed the UDMA2 version of 2.03R, but it will not see my f partition... of COURSE. I'm new to diagnosing that particular problem, so I need some help. The only info I know is that the X3 bios is configured for "F gets all, no G".

Thanks Bowlsnapper, I'm really liking Cerbios because of how insanely fast boot up is and I have a feeling my SSD likes UDMA5 mode that only Cerbios offers, so I'll leave X3 1024kb on the 1234 bank and stick with Cerbios 256kb in bank 8 :) X3 definitely has some unique options I like to check out from time to time but the speed is unbeatable on Cerbios.

Only slightly odd thing to add, is that although I saw "Disable auto XBL login" in my X3 ConfigLive, IIRC it was actually disabled already (or not enabled, however you want to put it) so AFAIK it shouldn't have been blocking XBL in theory but I guess it must have been.

So great to see 4 green lights after all these years!

Yeah, I think the XBL blocking could be better labeled in CL. Disabling something that disables something is a bit confusing for a second or two.

I mentioned in the other insignia thread that it was odd to see the "Insignia User Agreement" in the MS Dashboard. Pretty damn cool.

  4. I recently tried watching a DVD and realized that there was no audio. I switched over to Analog output, and I got audio through my HDMI Audio Extractor headphone amp. Once I was done watching tough, I noticed some 60-cycle hum and went, "Oh god, NO." I use this thing to listen to 1400Mbps music and a low noise floor is pretty much essential. I switched it back to digital output, but the hum persists. XBMC is the ONLY application doing this. the MS Dash is completely fucking silent and the music sounds nice and clean through it... like how my XBMC installation did before I screwed around with it all day. I believe XBMC is not outputting digital properly somehow and everything else IS. I have a Pound converter handling the encoding of analog and digital into the HDMI signal.

    Any ideas, guys?

Try creating the following advancedsettings.xml file in the XBMC UserData folder.

    <advancedsettings>
      <cddbaddress>gnudb.gnudb.org</cddbaddress>
    </advancedsettings>

This changes the default CDDB database form freedb.freedb.org to gnudb.gnudb.org.

That worked. Thank you. I wrote it using a code editor app on my android phone and then FTPd it over with a usb-c ethernet adapter. Cool.

Only problem now is, it completely locks up when I try to rip the disc. Not even IGR works. Great.

  6. The CDDB database that was active when XBMC 3.5.3 came out is no longer up. There are others out there. But I need to know how to change the server. With kodi, you can modify the advancedsettings.xml, but I see no such file for the xbox version. Any way to do this?... Or am I gonna be browsing my CD's by "Unknown Artists" and rocking out to "Track 1, Track 2, and Track 3"?

After flashing EvoX M8 and initially getting a black screen, I realised I wasn't using the LBA 48 compatible version of EvoX M8, after flashing that to a bank on my X3 I managed to successfully boot up, run the Insignia XBL setup successfully (without it warning about my BIOS blocking XBL). Then I set my bank BIOS back to Cerbios and now I boot up into XBMC4Gamers as normal and get the "Connected to Xbox Live" green light when I launch the MS Dashboard and perform a connection test! Looks like everything is working now. Woohooo!!!

    Thanks again

You can use the X3 BIOS. Me and another guy just got it working at the same time. Just disable "Disable auto XBL login" in X3 ConfigLive and it'll communicate with the insignia servers.

Unless you're set on CerBIOS. :)

I'm testing the X3 Config Live (aka X3CL), version X3 3294. This is on a console that's connected to XBL perfectly fine, using two other bioses.

This is where I've got so far:

    1. With XBL Login Disable = Enabled, I only get one green circle.
    2. With XBL Login Disable = Disabled, I get three green circles.
    3. I tried running xblunblock.xbe, but it didn't get past one of the patches.

I'm not terribly worried about it, as I'll just run one of the other four bioses I have on this X3 that work fine, but I was curious to see what would happen and I wanted to test if for you all too.

If I get any further I'll update...

    Okay, got it working!

In X3CL, you'll need to set the DNS1 and DNS2 per the Connect docs, so 46.101.64.175 and 1.1.1.1 respectively (or whatever you use for your secondary DNS; just match them to the XBL settings you set.) So go into X3CL (hold white button then boot your box) > Settings > Network Setup > Set DNS1 and Set DNS2.

Also, make sure XBL Login Disable is disabled (X3 Config Live > Customize X3 Bios > XBL Login Disable = Disabled)

I tried both DHCP: Enabled and Disabled and it seemed to work fine, either way; it seems it only needs the DNS1/2 set and DHCP is irrelevant, but ymmv, so you might need to set it to DHCP: Disabled (Static) and then Set Static IP, Set Subnet and Set Gateway the match what you have in XBL settings.

Note: I set IP and DNS to manual in XBL and made sure the numbers were correct (if you set IP to auto (maybe after you try to connect one time) you can see your addresses and just jot them down or take a picture or whatever, then switch to manual.) You might be able to keep the IP to auto in XBL, but not sure. For sure you want DNS set to manual (static) and to update it in X3CL.

God DAMN you. You stole my thunder. 😛

Just got it working a couple hours ago. Looks like we're good on the X3 bios. It was weird to see an "Insignia User Agreement" in the stock dashboard... Cajunga.

Noticed something interesting. After I changed the DNS (or possibly something I'm not remembering) the ticker that runs at the bottom of the XBMC home screen stopped working. That kinda sucks.

I ran the hacked X3 bios on my first 1.0 when I built it. Iirc I had LBA48 issues when I swapped to a newer bios a few years later. It didn't take me too long to manually move what I needed off the old drive and back on after configured correctly. I only had a 250gb drive though...

That's what I'm afraid of. I would want to be able to use all 3 bioses interchangeably. Might not be possible. But we'll see if it's even necessary in the first place. I'll check in tomorrow with you guys. Waiting on a usb ethernet adapter to tether with my phone... cuz that's what I'm stuck with right now. Once I hook the box up, it's on and crackin'.

You used the hacked 2914 X3 bios? The yoshihiro version? TSOP flash, or on a 1mb modchip?

My X3 has the following, X2 and EvoM8 connect successfully using their DNS server. Be careful which banks you flash and measure twice, cut once.

    BANK 78       00100     512K    X2 5035.1
    BANK 1234   11000      1MB    X3-BIOS
    BANK 5         11010      256K   EvoxM8+live

Well, all my flash is taken up by 2 X3 BIOSes: one at stock frequency, and one overclocked. I use the overclocking for Halo at 720p and emulation. I use the stock speed one to make sure that games don't run too fast, because it's actually noticeable, even at 778MHZ.

As far as I know, only devs and testers have codes currently. The Insignia TOS page shows up in the MS dash about 3 pages before you need to enter your activation code.

Try it out and let us know! I would think that would work. The suggestion from Insignia if you have an unsupported bios is to use xblunlock. I assume the correct settings in ConfigLive will have the same outcome.

Insignia recommends m8+. I personally have one box registered and connected with m8+ and a second with Cerbios 2.0.3R. Cerbios is 50/50 on if it will connect to the Insignia service first time. The current work around for Cerbios is flash retail, Cerbios 2.0.2R, or m8+, connect to Insignia first time, flash back Cerbios, test connection.

There is also the new patch of iND with XBL allowed that is floating around. I have no experience but that should work too.

XBMC has a "Default" network setting that can inherit the network settings from the MS Dash. XBMC doesn't "work" with XBL (or any other custom dash that I know of). As long as your dashboard doesn't fight the DNS spoofing that Insignia is doing, the game will make the connections needed. The system retains its own network settings durring gameplay.

Okay, I will run the setup executable tomorrow and register my box. I'll get as far as I can.

I will also test the "disable XBL login" in ConfigLive. I'll let you know how it goes.

Yeah, I read up on the XBMC "default" setting on their site. Lets you use DHCP but set the DNS manually. Nifty.

If worst comes to worst, I'll get some conductive paint and flash the TSOP with the patched M8 BIOS. But I don't think that'll be necessary... theoretically, anyway. If it is, hopefully the M8 works out of the box with my X3 box's HDD layout and what not.Never run anything other than the X3 bios on this particular machine.

They did….  But I don’t want to hardmod it yet and no exploitable games so can’t do it softmod way.    Eeprom duties is the main reason for the build… but figured if it can give you what you need to register it… why not.  With this.  You don’t have to rebuild LPC (1.6)… remove solder (1.0) or add a pin header.  It will function with a pin header though… and no need to mod in any way

Cool, man! Nice work! :) I'm spoiled and I forget that not everybody's modded.

There is a patch* somewhere for this often reported problem which, I think, has probably nothing to do with the BIOS or at least that particular BIOS.

Typically on a NTSC/region swapped to NTSC Xbox the PAL game runs the GTA: SA intro in 480p but on the start screen it swaps to 480i.

For me I didn't have any problem with the PAL GTA: SA/Vice City double pack version from disc or installed. However there's a mod version of GTA: SA which adds dinosaurs and other stuff I tried later and I did have that issue.

    * On another forum I was given a link to a 'patched' version but it didn't solve the problem then someone else there provided another one which did. It might just have been the NTSC version default.xbe for all I know but there is that option to try if no other solution is offered here.

Wait... can you theoretically use an NTSC xbe and it'll RUN in NTSC and just use all the resources appropriately?

  13. Hey guys. I have a few questions that I hope can be answered:

    1. How are people already registering their consoles? I just today got the email from them talking about the 15th and that they'll notfy me when my code is ready. Are some pople already getting their codes? If so, that's cool. I can wait. Just want to make sure.

2 If I disable "disable XBL login" in X3 ConfigLive, will the X3 bios allow the connection to be made, or do I have to get another bios for online use?

    3. I know that the initial setup needs to be done on the MS dash, no problem there. But I know that EvolutionX and UnleashX don't have the ability to set up the DNS properly. I guess XBMC does. How does XBL work with XBMC, though? IS the dash even important, other than for configuring the DNS settings properly? How are networksetting in XBMC even going to be retained once I run a game? Also, I think the game itself handles all XBL negotiations and should work as long as XBL settings are present in the proper place on the HDD, correct?

Use the 5003 ram fix and XBL enabled version.

Works fine 😁, though I need to use insignias DNS, so if you use other dashboards, if they allow it set them to dashboard for their network setting. (DHCP, Dashboard and Static) This will stop other dashboards overwriting the DNS. (Also set the alt DNS as 8.8.4.4 or 8.8.8.8)

Why on earth was there ever an XBL enabled version!?

Good night guys, manu I got more results with a lot of research, I converted the HL2 executable to .txt in CXBX and guess what it marks the magic value of the executable and this is the dimensions the only problem is that I have to type this value in the MICROSOFT VISUAL STUDIO... Is there another tool that edits C++ programming other than it? Editing this was already perfect wheel

    Why can't you use VS?

first time I see it in real life, but guess the clock cap has been leaking or was somebody to generous with soldering flux when applying the TSOP?

I can easily remove it with IPA and no sign of rust on the RF shield

Wow.Not a single bit of metal visible on those transistors. All corrosion, baby. My second Halo edition looks like that. I still have to jump the traces responsible for the power leds because they don't work. Lol.

You can boot the stock bios from a modchip as well but who wants to do that? Grab a EvoX, disable the evox icon and the dvd check and link it right to the ms dash. You can not see any difference and if something ever went wrong, you are on the save side.

I have an XBox which is always open and has a cut to size case (Like a benchtable) with an Aladdin and an tl866ii plus to flash chips without the need for FTP/CD/USB (Or for testing HDD setups and such). It's a way faster methode to do it this way. And flashing/dead flashing TSOP's, well, we had that already in a different topic recently. No big deal if a flash goes wrong, like Prehistoricman already wrote. It's a 5 min job (Sounds filthy doesn't it?).

You worry way to much about things that could go wrong. And if something breaks, repair it. Good way to learn stuff.

About the chips for the R3DUX. No cheap source here but I'm not in a need for one. I have a X3CE, SmartXX v3 and some SmartXX v2/v1 here which I could use but why? For personal use a TSOP is fine. I still try to play Heroes (again) which I bought almost 2 years ago but then I ended up here doing totaly diffenent stuff. :D;)

Dude. I worry about EVERYTHING. Not just Xboxes. I'm a neurotic basket case... can't help it.

Good call on the evox/MS dash option. I will use that in the future and just start flashing TSOPs... but I'll probably still rely on a multibank chip. Both in conjunction.

Desoldering the TSOP is a 5 minute job if you can solder well. I still have much practice before I can pull that off, flash, and resolder in 5 minutes. Holy SHIT. You guys are next level.

Maybe I'm getting old and I'm just getting set in my ways...

See, we görmans and can be funny. :D

If you want a X3/X3CE, Kekule, Ryzee & Co have made the R3dux which is a clone : https://github.com/ChimericSystems/R3DUX

Would say the bios is written in assembly / C/C++.

If you have a know good bios like a simple EvoX m8p noDVD or iND 5003 XISO (I prefere the iND because the EvoX CAN cause a error 16 out of the blue) it's a clever move to flash the TSOP even you have mod chip in your console.

And when you tinker a lot, a external flasher could be a good investment. In case you flashed a PS5 bios to your XBox TSOP you can reflash your TSOP using the programmer. I personaly use a simple Aladdin and the flasher to test bioses in my TBOX.

Testing bioses seems like exactly the kind of thing you would NOT want to pull the chip out of the box for. YIKES. You are a glutton for torture. :) I think I'm stubborn and feel comfortable having the stock bios on the TSOP, so I can boot the MS dash if I want to... for whatever reason. I guess that can be achieved a number of other ways, like just launching it manually from a dashboard. XBL is no longer an issue.

I am aware of R3dux. However, the EEPROMs are rare and expensive on eBay, the 256k backup flash and 2MB flash are completely fucking extinct, and the Lattice CPLD is $100 on eBay... and there were only TWO listings for it. So, unless you know of direct replacements for each of those components...

I would be building Xecuter 3s every day.

  19. 30 minutes ago, clueless said:

Also, given how trivial it is to tsop flash these days, this negates the need for the most part for a chip for most people

For some people I'm sure it works, but only in some cases for me. There are a lot of instances where I don't want to rely on a TSOP only flash storage. One bad flash and a chip's gotta go in there anyway. If you're planning to do a fully loaded m8 flash and do a 2TB origins HDD image and then NEVER modify the contents of the entire console again, then that's one thing. But I tinker too much. I'd rather just solder in a chip - one that's flashable from either a bios stored on the chip or from a dashboard. I'm attached to flexibility. Never want to open an xbox for flashing purposes... Maybe I was spoiled by the X3. :)

Also, I have a habit of having an overclocked bios in an adjacent slot, just for a little extra juice!
