  1. My nephew got this as a birthday present Yesterday. He loved it. Thanks everyone!
  2. Is there some specific setup I need for the wide and hdd fixes? all the ones I tried just errored instantly, with no indication of what the error was.
  3. composite cable Yes, but it covered much more of teh text than that. I am wondering if maybe the video calibration I did on the installed dashboard was what fixed it.
  4. that seemed to fix the voltage irregularity. is that what you always find with an insufficiently connected conection? a higher than usual voltage?
  5. These updates, dlcs, and patches. It just extracts them and then I need to run them, correct? And does it matter in what order, if a game has say a 720p patch and a DLC, and a update? Will the game need to have been played for the patches to be applied? Is thier any way to unpatch if it produces undesirable results? Can I install the 720p patches and then still use a Composite Video that cannot handle that resolution? (component cable in mail)
  6. not sure how much variance is ok. the second down on the right is 4v. and the second last left is 3.2. the other 3.3s are 3.25 or 3.24 i also have 4 0s on 12 pin main power connector. on pins 6 to 10 from left to right(looking at the connecting side of the connector)
  7. The label says Aladdin Advance v1.0-v1.6
  8. So is it most likely a power to modchip problem? Could I do some sort of current check on the pins and then back trace to find the specific issue?
  9. Just to be clear, it is perfectly capable of running for as long as it wants. It is just starting that causes an issue. And it really seems heat related. Give it 5-10 minutes to cool off and it seems to work most/all of the time, while it almost never seems to want to start up immediately after stopping.
  10. Hmm, now it seems that when I go to turn it on, sometimes it will cycle ifself on and off 3 times, without video out. It seems to do this more often when it is warm from just running. I read it is trying to load the bios when this happens and can be a power connector issue. Maybe I should check all my solders? Or do you have any recommendations? Like maybe I should swap in a new PSU?
  11. Researched online, and it looks like the games natively support higher res than av does. It seems like these cheap cables are slightly worse than the best solutions, but then they are many times more expensive. I will have to change some settings to tell the games to output better graphics?
  12. SO that worked! installing games now, so much nostalgia. This XBMC4gamers seems really slick, but the current version is a little buggy. I was searching amazon for controllers and noticed a Component cable? Would that significantly help, I notice text is pretty blurry? Or would that only effect the dashboard?
  13. Do you want me to try and replicate, and maybe catch on video? Or we should assume it is just me who had the problem (past tense) so not worth the time?
  14. I assume this is a known issue, but the readme files do not work right unless the disc is already installed. Before it installed everything to my hdd, the text viewer spilled out well past the edges of the screen, but now with everything installed, it is centered and width-ed perfectly. I do not know how hdd contents could effect this like this, but I opened and read many of these text files pre-installation (over many restarts) and every single one was effected by it and then 30 minutes latter they all were not.
  15. Lol, ok so their was a diagram right on the drive and I was just ignoring it. It was all wrong but fixing it produced no different results. it looks like I had to set to 32gb only mode - Slave, but the usb drive encloser was just ignoring this anyway I guess. Once it seemed to hang forever like the other drive but a reboot got it right back into "needing service". Often the install disc boots without the background wallpaper, is this normal or a sign of a failing dvd drive? Still have a one more thing to try with UBCD, but I am getting less confident. But presumably I could reflash an old bios and then when it is booting again with the HDD upgrade with the wd Green setting enabled. Please advise which bios to flash to work with this idling drive, and if this will be possible with one of the prebuild installers or this will be more complicated. I probably want to just install a dashboard to the org hdd and then use that to flash the bios? If flashing is not really that dangerous, this is probably the best method anyways, it is a pain to reboot my computer and change half a dozen setting in the bios every time I want to get to UBCD.
