  1. Just 3 to 5 hours? So, it was there just to keep the time while you were moving the xbox from one room to the other or to your friend's house? Fine then. Maybe I did do the installation correctly and didn't damage anything.. Thank you.
  2. A while ago I removed the clock capacitor from an Xbox v.1.1. Some days ago came the new capacitor I had ordered and I got to install it. Now, since I'm a complete amateur on the soldering thing, I may have damaged the capacitor or the mb, or the soldering job I did isn't good enough, BUT, how long is the date/time expected to last with a same rating capacitor? I never actually used a new Xbox and I don't know. My first results show that I must have messed up the installation. As far as I can tell I put it in the same place where I removed the old one (there was a leftover capacitor leg in one of the holes) and I used the correct polarity (the negative of the capacitor to the white side of the board's schematic). The capacitor I used is the one in the picture below. Thank you!
  3. I haven't tried this yet, I'm here to just say thank you!
  4. I'm thinking about the BT. What is the difference on D0? The guides I found say to ground it anyway. Where else can it be connected? Since the other Xbox I have access to is a v.1.0 and it's not mine and I won't be tampering with it, as well as there's no way I'm getting more Xboxes myself, I'll just put the modchip in. How can I tell if I should flash it or not? And which BIOS to use for it? Is there any table I can have a look at? I'm planning to put in an old 160GB HDD of mine that I found laying around, and from what I gather any BIOS should be able to see it. Only disks 1TB and above need specific BIOSes, right?
  5. It never flashed the chip. The above screenshot is the last thing I saw. It deleted it, but the progress bar never moved and now the modchip doesn't seem to be working anymore. It just boots to error 5 (I had the HDD unlocked). So, because I don't understand half of what you said, remember I'm new to this, when my new Aladdin arrives, except from the markings on the chip itself, is there anyway to identify it? Also, how can I tell which bios to flash? If I'm not mistaken the Aladdin has a 256kb BIOS, but on the Hexen disc where too many 256kb BIOSes to choose from. (I think I had selected one which said EvolutionX or something - I can't read the disc and can't see the full list of them now). Where can I find this evox.ini? Are there more like this?
  6. It would if I hadn't unlocked the HDD... I have ordered an newer modchip (Aladdin) so I may clean the thing a bit, and an IDE to USB adaptor to try and lock the HDD through my PC. It depends on what will come first from China though.. I will keep the hair dryer close to me then! Thanks!
  7. Unfortunately it doesn't have any printing on the chip.. so I have no clue. Maybe there is any clue on these screens? And one more thing: any ideas on how to unstick the modchip from the motherboard? Whoever installed it, they stick it with tape and now it doesn't move at all. One of these days I will try to take it out.
  8. I'm talking about the chip itself, the one in the green circle in the picture below. Not the modchip as a whole. I'm a bit curious: The modchip is installed in the Xbox but the BIOS flash failed. (The one I have in my Xbox is soldered, not put it with a pin-header) i) Since it's socketed, could I, theoretically, insert a new modchip there when the Xbox is turned off, and it should work? ii) If I start the Xbox with the working chip, use HeXEn to go to the flasher program and before I start the procedure, I take out the good chip and change it with the badly flashed and then continue with the flashing, would it flash it correctly? Assuming it will not just burn the chips when I take them out-in? Has anyone tried something like that? YOLO?
  9. Thanks, I was thinking it would last like they do on a PC. I may just put a new capacitor then. Don't know. Aaaaanyway... I screwed my Xbox the other day! I had the HDD unlocked (since I have a modchip) and after that I tried updating the modchip's bios. I used Tru3HeXEn2021 and selected a 256kb bios, the M8+ I think it was, it deleted it fine but it never flashed it. I left it for more that 15minutes and it didn't do anything. So now I'm stuck with a dead modchip (ordered another) and an error 5 because of the unlocked drive. I'm waiting for an IDE to USB adapter so I may try to unlock the HDD with XboxHDM through a PC. I only hope it backed the EEPROM when I did the backup. One more question: Do I put the games on the Xbox's HDD (so I can run them from there) as ISOs or as folders?
  10. Isn't my Xbox a Winbond one? I should use the Winbond option, not the "not Winbond", right?
  11. So... For starters I'm unlocking my HDD and then I'll try to find out how to install the M8+ and do it since there are fixes. I was going to try running Tru3HeXEn2021 today, to see what it is all about. Thank you for the answers!
  12. ...and one more thing: Can I put a coin battery in the place of the clock capacitor? If yes, what ratings?
  13. Hey all! 10 years ago I bought an Xbox with a modchip installed on. I didn't use it much (meaning I barely used it at all). Lately I decided to dust it off. I started by removing the clock capacitor. From searching around the internets I came to the conclusion that the installed modchip is an Aladin, but the modchip itself doesn't have any identifications on it. My questions are: 0) When talking about BIOSies, are they modchip bios or the Xbox's bios? 1) I have used the HeXEn 2018 disc and I saw that my modchip (or is it the Xbox?) has the EvoX M8 bios. Is this different from the M8+? 2) Should I try upgrading to M8+ (if it is different) and how can I find if my modchip (or is it the Xbox?) has a 256 or 512 KB bios? 3) What does it mean if an HDD is locked or unlocked? (Mine says locked) 4) I found an old IDE HDD 160GB of mine. Can I just put it inside and install a dashboard with HeXEN so I may get the capacity? 5) To go to the custom dashboard I have to keep the power button for a second and during boot it will have an "EvoX" logo on the upper left corner. If I push it momentarily the Xbox starts as the is no modchip installed. Is this going to be a problem somehow? Thank you for your answers!
