About Me

  1. Greetings all. I’ve done many of these before so it’s not my first go but this one is irritating me and I feel like I’m overlooking something. Figured I’d throw it out there and get some feedback. Problem: Initially the drive wouldn’t open. Easy fix. Replaced belt. Gave everything a good cleaning before putting it back together as always. Had some other cleaning and repairs to do with the rest of the Xbox so it was a little bit before I put everything back together and tested. Drive worked and read discs but I noticed a catching motion as the tray was about 3/4 of the way out where it was struggling. Took apart again and went over everything. Tray action moved smoothly for me manually. Cleaned everything a second time. It was at this point that I noticed the laser assembly wasn’t moving up and down with the tray anymore. It did previously because I saw it. Plus it was reading discs but this was stuck in the down position. Removed tray, cleaned out areas around the white plastic slide, noticed a catch in its action but was able to remedy that and everything working as it should up and down, and finally replaced tray making sure the nub lined up with the slot in the tray to elicit laser assembly action upon open and close. So…tested out manually and still the laser assembly isn’t moving up. I can see the nub hitting the track. It gets up to the bend in the guide on the bottom of the tray but goes no further. I can manually move the slide on that guide to put it in that position on full tray closure. Once you open the tray the issue returns and it will not progress past the bend. So folks….am I just overlooking something because I’ve been messing with it for too long this evening? Nothing appears broken on the white slide that I can see. My theory at the moment is that the person that forced the tray open broke something underneath the gears and on the slide that I cannot see. I’m guessing I’m going to have to take all that area apart and replace with some spare parts. Figured I’d throw it out there and see if I was missing something before I went that far.
  2. Motherboard fragged so I bought a version 1.1 replacement with paired hard drive. Board boots. Plays games, etc. Removed leaky clock cap, cleaned board. Soft modded system with Rocky 5. Attempted TSOP, but the files wouldn’t copy. Worked fine with cables soldered in place, but started getting an error on boot. Removed TSOP wires, boots normally. Eventually get Chimp installed and working with composite cables. Won’t boot into the modern interface even though I’m using the latest release. It’s some antiquated version. After some frustration, I figure it out. Chimp reads both drives correctly, both stock and 240GB SSD via a Startech IDE to SATA Adapter verified working with my original 1.0 motherboard. Do a quick clone, clone C and E only, lock to motherboard. Set jumper to master. Will not boot with the new drive, black screen after Xbox logo. Start the procedure over, this time Chimp decides to do a slow clone. Completes overnight, lock drive to motherboard. Shut down system. Come back hours later. Error 7 on boot. Xbox logo, no Microsoft logo, then error screen. Reset all IDE and power connections multiple times, same issue. Examine ports annd connectors for debree. Order a new 80 pin IDE cable, same exact issue. Try booting with SSD, Xbox logo, Microsoft logo, then black screen. Try booting with safe mode, get an error 9 with the SSD, but only once or twice. Reseat all connectors, no difference. Have the EEPROM and HD key so I’m able to mount and browse the cloned SSD on PC with FatXplorer. Appreciate any help here, this is driving me nuts.
  3. I have a 1.6 Xbox with Xenium 24k modchip. System worked fine but feeding buttons prior to install. Lpc rebuild and added pin header and Xbox boots with chip great. Eject button takes me to Xenium is and power button boots into my dashboard (Xbmc4gamers). The issue I’m having, is that I can’t use the power or eject after in turn it on. Don’t think it’s a trace issue due to it being a 1.6 and not having the issue prior to the chip. Any help would be awesome
  4. I think my XBOX overheated last night while playing Max Payne. The xbox crashed and a flashing orange light was visible. The power button did not respond at all. What happened is that I just installed a newly printed case on the startech ide adapter. After putting it together I decided to startup a game. First thing I noticed was how silent it was and I was actually wondering if the fan was even turning. 5 min later it crashed. After letting it cool for some time it doesn’t want to boot anymore. I get red/green light flashing after a few seconds. I connected the SSD to a pc and I can access it without issues wit fatxplorer, was affraid that me pulling the cable out might have damaged the SSD. It doesn’t want to boot to ogxbox installer dvd with SSD connected, but everything works fine with original HDD. The ogxbox installer gets into some bootloop, teal logo is visible and disk makes noise every few seconds. Different HDD gives same problem, it was not formatted to fatx because it contained valuable data. So basically there can be a few things wrong: ide adapter bad, ide cable all of the sudden needs to be a 80 pin or somehow the boot partition got corrupted. I should be able to test startech ide connector by connecting it to my pc via sata with original HDD (ide) right? so basically the reverse from what I do on the xbox. What is the best way to rule out the SSD? I prefer not to format it again, as I spend hours and hours copying/unpacking all the games. The unpacking part I can skip btw now. Is there anything else I need to check?
