  1. A debug kit is used to test and find bugs on xbox games during their development. Not only does it benefit from twice the RAM of a retail xbox, it also has things like an unlocked HDD, the ability to run unsigned code, and the ability to run any region discs. The debug kit I bought still has a prototype build of a game on it so that's why I intend to release it on the internet

  2. I have pretty much every official connection type somewhere in a box, I have to say the official component cable with fiber-optic audio is the best. I remember seeing a youtube tutorial on taking the xbox 360 component cable and soldering on an original xbox connector. link here

I plan on doing this in the future as I know i have an original xbox 360 component cable lying around somewhere that came with my 360. It would be like brand new as I only used HDMI to play

  3. The debug unit I'm waiting to receive (tracking shows it will probably get here Tuesday) has the potential to run any unsigned code without any softmodding or hardmodding is what I have been lead to believe, is this right?  I can transfer over or boot from disc any .xbe, for example Rebellious Bullet an unreleased Japanese game that was discovered on a debug unit and uploaded to the internet?

    edit spelling and youtube link

  4. I would very much appreciate someone to PM me the key for this, I just want to burn a copy to a disk so I can know what it felt like to preorder the system😂
Edit: I also second the idea to add it to the downloads page, since this is an official Xbox release and apparently somewhat rare

  5. Wow! Thank you for the response CorpusDeal I haven't even considered the lead poisoning aspect. I ordered my soldering tool and all the necessary pieces yesterday.. along with another Xbox.. whoops :]

I'm excited to make a USB adapter and start transferring over some softmod files. I'll make sure to keep the air ventilated and my hands clean while working. As far as a soldering mat goes, I was just planning on working on my kitchen table maybe with some newspaper down. Would this be adequate? -Jake

  6. Hi all. I'm looking at buying my first soldering kit from ebay and I'm looking for protips from experienced modders

What are the necessary things I need with my soldering tool? I'm definitely considering buying a magnifying glass and possibly a stand as well. What is the right type of solder and flux I should want to use with my hardware? I plan to start with making USB adapters and repairing frayed controller cords but I want to gain the ability to do things such as repair dead traces and install chips.

I understand the meticulous nature of this activity and that's why I'm asking for some guidance first before I jump in feet first like I normally would. Thanks! - Jake

  7. My main gaming system is a green Halo xbox I bought maybe a year ago off ebay - it was in great condition and had never been opened before I got it. When I removed the case to clean it out I found the motherboard is a 1.4 revision with a gold clock capacitor. I remember reading online this is a high quality capacitor Microsoft switched to after they realized the cheap ones were failing. Does anyone here have any more information on this? Pics attached I took today.

  8. Hi there! My name is Jake, I just joined the forums to hopefully gain knowledge but I've been playing the original xbox since it came out. I think I was 10 or so, and I remember opening up my xbox in middle school but I never did anything serious with it.

Well in the past year or year and a half I've started collecting the systems, I bought about 10 OG xboxs for cheap off craigslist, facebook, and ebay and Ive got around 30 controllers. Mostly everything works but there's a lot that can be fixed up with soldering and I have never soldered before. I want to start by making a USB adapter out of a DVD receiver and try fixing some of the controller wires. I also picked up 3 huge CRT tvs for free off craigslist and I have a LAN setup ready in my house at all times. I want to eventually softmod and hardmod some of my systems but I've never done any of this before so I turned to the best place for free informantion - the internet. I really need to spend less time on facebook so I'm willing to dedicate myself to this forum.
