I'm not sure what happened to the image.  After I edited the post it was being displayed but when I looked this time it was not.

    I fixed it.  Hopefully! :)

    Thank you for your time.

I replaced the standard Evox logo with one of my own design. I use a red theme for my Aladdin chipped machine and a green one for TSOPS.

This seems interesting. How did you make your logo? I assume it has to be a certain size? Could be cool to have a RR logo. lol

  2. Hello Kaos, thanks for the information. I was looking at EVTool and thinking about trying that to a bios I had. I didn't want to take a chance and mess up though. I will give it a shot now that I know I was in the right direction. The picture you posted doesn't show up. When I click on it I just get 404 invalid url. Thanks for the quick reply. This is good stuff!

Just saw your post and wanted to say thanks Benur75!

  3. So I managed to repair my xbox and while I was at it I got to work on a couple of 1.6s I had. I've installed the Aladdin XT Plus2 and I left the on board led off so it doesn't turn on. I used the TruHexen 2020 disk and flashed the 256k BIOS, v1.6. Now when I boot, as I'm sure most of you know, I get the purple triangle with the Evo X logo. I don't really care for the logo and I would like advice on what would be the best BIOS to install on a:

    1.6 with an Aladdin chip

stock hdd but going to upgrade eventually

working dvd drive but that may be removed

    want F and G

    no LOGO.

    Thanks guys!

Thing to do first if its modded is use the UnleashX dash which has a LED test/change in its settings.

Its a bit unusual for both sides of the LED to go at the same time but still best to check if you can get any response. The two instances I've had of such matters were both caused by dried solder cracking.

The front LED board is held under some compression and if the solder has dried out it is ripe for cracking and that can be enough to break the connection. Just reflowing the solder around the LED joints solves the problem, if it is that.

I did use UnleashX to test them. The green on both sides went out. I've been so busy this week I haven't had the chance to sit down with it. I'm looking forward to when I can though. This was my first xbox so I'm going to look it over real good. Thanks for added info.

It could be bad solder joints in the switch panel or more likely trace damage to the underside of the main board.

You really need to disassemble it and check for clock cap leakage especially the 4 traces across the front on the bottom of the motherboard..

    Cheers

Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

Yeah, I was planning on it this weekend when I got my chips for the two 1.6s. It was 3:30am when I posted that. I had never known about the clock cap and was wondering if or when it would strike. I'll give an update on what I find.

There's a trick I like to use to repair PCB traces. It doesn't always work, but might be worth a try.

If you're steady with a little knife, you could scrape off the PCB insulation for each trace. Making sure to scrape enough so the solder gets a good grip, and to use thin wires that won't tear up the trace. If you accidentally cut more than one trace right next to each other, you might need to abandon that area and start again, moving further up the trace.

Ideally, you would expose traces in a staggered way, so the solder won't bridge to other traces

The other way is to follow the traces till they reach a component, and solder from the components

Yeah, I'm familiar with repairing traces but any advice or tips is always welcome. Thanks.

  6. Are you sure what the chip is? It looks like an Aladdin XT plus. I guess it could be something else but I'm sure one of the guys here will be able to give you advice. I read elsewhere (afterdawn) about the modes. I think you tried them though.

     Modes:

Off - Tap the powerbutton and the Xbox starts as normal with the original BIOS.

On - Press and hold powerbutton for 1 second and the Aladdin XT is activated.

Writeprotect - Press and hold powerbutton for 2 seconds and the Aladdin XT is activated in flash write protect mode.

Visual Mode Indication: The power LED will indicate the current mode by different colors.

Off - Green (Normal) / Orange (HDD access)

On - Orange (Normal) / Green (HDD access)

    Writeprotect - Continous flashing Orange/Green

  7. Well now I'm not sure what I want to use. I've got a couple Aladdin chips coming tomorrow for two 1.6b boxes. The hard drives and DVD drives in both boxes are no good. Right now I'm just going to set them up with maybe 120 - 200GB hard drives to get them up and running. I just downloaded TruHexen2020 but now I don't know. I see there's issues but any thoughts on my situation with what to use and bios? I've got to figure out what to do about installation as well since the DVD drives are screwed.

  8. Hello all. It's been a long time since I visited the old Xbox. I've modded quite a few back in the day and recently acquired a couple a few days ago in a box along with about 5 PS2s. I kinda got a little excited being as I haven't touched either one of them for several years. I had read about soft modding and wanted to try it since it didn't require any hardware or tools as I had gotten rid of everything I had. Well once I fired up the boxes I found both of them had hdd and dvd issues. I opened them up and, ..ugh. Both of them were 1.6b. Anyway, I jumped online and ordered a couple of Aladdin XT chips. It's slowed me down but has given me the time to look the forums over. I'm getting the itch back! I don't think the wife is going to like this all over again. Anyway I just wanted to say hi to everyone.

  9. How much for just the black plastic front panel where the controller ports are? Also what do you have for controller parts repair? I might need some thumb stick parts for drift issues.
