Thanks for the reply! I wasn't aware RGB was so problematic on xbox, I will absolutely be on the lookout for component cables then.

you have to make it yourself or buy from US, monster's or microsoft's. Some dude was selling proper DIY component cables for 25 quid or something, made from original xbox 360 cable. I guess it's a good deal. Since it's not a beginners job.

Chinese component cables are crap, i had bought one and it had interference in picture. But i used its plug for DIY cable, worked damn well.

Bypassing the encoder you wouldn't get VGA, you'd get the digital signals from the GPU.

You bloody damn right, but we can extract HV sync. So we can use existing RGB rails from the encoder?

I have tried to research datasheets from conexant chip, i does talk about switches - mode select. Question is, do stock xbox bios work with vga mode "jumped".

My inquiry is somewhat related, I'm considering whether to get either the HD AV Pack or official component cables vs an RGB cable from RGC. I know they make high quality third-party cables for other consoles in the first place, so I'm curious how they stack up against the official component output. I have a PAL console too, and I'm going to be running whatever solution I go with through an OSSC if that matters.

PAL - RGB scart fking sucks on xbox, i have original advanced scart cable.

Because of encoding chip, RGB scart on xbox is horrible, on 1.6 xbox is improved, but still garbage. Plus, 50Hz limitation is cancer. I think it's a horrible practical joke.

    GO FOR COMPONENT. 60Hz, 720p, 480p.

  4. Access to RGB and HV signals on the motherboard - YES.

Output voltage correction/boost - Can be made.

Bios - what bios to use? Since all custom bios are fake VGA mode.

Talking about REAL VGA, bypassing encoding chip and directly tapping into nvidia chip.

Sorry, I didn’t remember. Before reading the eeprom, fan started to speed so much on normal using. Don’t you think this must be due to cpu and gpu overheating? Or an eeprom editing with eeprom reader can result with red/green blinking ? Sorry for my bad english.

fan do goes loud in service mode while reading eeprom. You should not change eeprom with other console's eeprom.

Thanks for the perspective.  From what I read before, it sounded like it pretty much was required to be done every so often.  It's good to hear that it can be left alone (as long as there are no problems when using.)

Yap, someone has to burst this bubble. But for other systems is must: ps3, Ps4, xbox one, xbox 360 slim version. Everything else that uses regular paste.

I'm quite suspicious about xbox 360 phat too, because they have similar hard compound, not thermal paste like everyone believes. So, i did little experiment, i left stock compound after cleaning dust and doing RGH mod. For my surprise temps. were excellent with stock compound. RGH allows to see temp while in game. I will post ingame temps. when i can.

Hi So I had a chinese knock off cable thinking i would cut one of them up.

It was full of glue :(  I tried to clean it off and bent one of the pins.

Beware of knock off cables from china!

original cables are with glue too more like hot glue stuff, some are with glue, some are with tape. Not sure why it is, probably for accidental shorting to connectors shielding. You can unbent the pin, but do it SLOW!, or you can swap it with unused pin. Everything is OK.

Yes. I noticed i simply couldn't use the thumbsticks to move around the dashboard because it was skipping 3 or 4 spots with a slight tap. The D-pad is the only option. Sigh. I payed 100 bucks for this xbox and the seller on amazon gives me this off brand trash with worn thumbstick rubber lol.

Damn, 100 federal reserve. Maybe lot's of other stuff, other than controllers? Console on the rarer side?

CPU temps at idle doesn't draw any conclusions. Small temp changes at idle indicate the potential for larger differences under load. The thermal dissipation efficiency can only be seen under load

    Duh.

I measure temperatures while it's turned off.

I get clear boot screen and sound

    I did clean the board

I haven’t tried a new tv yet, I don’t own one with analog connections. Lol

The Xbox is hooked up threw Panasonic two jack adapter. I believe it’s working here before. I will try and find a tv with regular analog connections and test.

    thanks for the help

try following on screen instructions about component connection

    messed up softmod?

  11. Better buy original controller. Third party analog sticks and triggers uses crappy potentiometers, out of spec or something, making super sensitive, same goes for triggers. You can replace it with original alps from scrap pile. Madcats or any other brand will suck. Not sure about logitech, but i doubt they use proper ALPS brand analog sticks and triggers.

I had few off brand controllers, where ok build quality, but analog controls were funny, unplayable.

And never had problems with it.

Probably funky software problem you have there. Try other emulators.

It's not a placebo effect, but of course for you, the cement is adequate. You have a biased viewpoint

do you shill for thermal paste companies? Everyone is changing xbox thermal paste left and right, because no one explained this properly without before and after comparison, and everyone is thinking that replacing thermal paste on some machines is worthwhile.

It's like talking to audiphile, Oh these power cables does make sound better.

Without thermal dissipation figures for the original paste, it's best to use known good paste. This is good practice, as long as the heatsink mounting clamps haven't deteriorated too much through age. Their pressure is important.

The video didn't support it being pointless, instead noted a slower fan speed and reduced CPU temp. The GPU temp increase was probably from poor application. We didn't get to see how he applied the paste, the video was cut at that point. It might not have had any paste. A few degrees matters, and the reduced fan speed confirms this.

CPU/GPU temp  decrease are so marginal, that is pointless, fan speed is not confirmed nor denied since no measurements were taken. There is also thing called placebo effect.

Stock thermal performance is more than adequate and still works. For 1-2 degree gain, it's like comparing super expensive and average priced thermal paste.

For my ears fan speed did not changed, humming sound of the fan was identical,. Talking about my real life experience.

    Remember, placebo effect is real.

So, "they use some sort of cement". In other words you don't know what it is yet come and make statements as if they are fact.

this video supports that repaste is pointless, and i'm, talking from my personal experience too. xbox 360 is also the same case, i have 2008 falcon v2 with stock paste. ps3, ps4, xbox one, xbox 360 slim uses regular paste, in these cases it matters to replace.

All experiments and evidences backs up my statement. xbox 360 with 2008 mfd goes strong and cool with stock cooling compound. I can show pictures if you don't believe.
