That would make sense because if I turn it right back on the time gets shorter before it shuts off again. It seem to get a bit warm in there too. I've tried putting a desk fan on it no change though. Would it be from the thermal paste under the heat sinks? One of then seems lose.

Try running the fan at 100% and see if that delays the cutout time. If that seems to be the issue then yes try changing the thermal paste. If the heatsink is moving about then it will not be transferring the heat that well.

I replaced the front panel board for one I knew worked and same results. I also looked at the motherboard and the traces look good. Over all this is one of the cleanest I've picked up inside and out. Anyone know what the shut down might be about? It does power on soon as the console is plugged in without pressing the power button and after a few minutes it shuts down. Please help.

Check the temps, the Xbox will turn off at about 72c.

Yup, I know it, the no-dvd bios is a paint in the ass if you mess with the hdd or the dashboard, unable to boot from dvd if you make a upsie, thing I do the last month

Anyway hanging on the thear this modchip only works with evox bioses? And is possible disable the logo in the corner? Also, is possible rid off the clock cap in the 1.6 board?

You can use a x2 512kb bios on a 1.6 but that depends on the modchip you have, yes you can remove the logo, you just need to edit the bios with evtool. No a 1.6 will not run without the clock cap.

Unless someone corrects me, if you search for "TOP-60 Optical Laser Lens Replacement" a few options will pop up on ebay and even Alliexpress. Those should fit and replace the Thomson TGM600 laser lens assembly and those are not badly priced. Around $15 dollars US. I bought one to try as my Thomson's laser is on its last leg. Haven't installed it yet.

If one was looking to adjust the pot anyway, here is one helpful guide. Link I had a guide forever and day ago that went into detail about readings you should be getting for the Philips and Samsung drives which was a wayyyy lower number compared to the Thomsons, but that information is out there. If I find it, I'll post it here as well.

I bought a replacement from eBay, it stated it was new, it wasn’t and it didn’t work, luckily I got my money back.

    Hello all,

Opened up one of my xbox 1.1 and noticed the metal or tin shielding is about a 60% rusty. Can I remove it or should I sand it and spray paint all but the contacts for the mainboard?

I personally would dip it in vinegar, sand and spray

Yo, my names Boured, been into the OG XBOX for awhile as it's really the only XBOX I have a connection with as I grew up with it. Been in the XBOX Homebrew Discord for a bit so maybe some people here have seen me, though maybe not, maybe 1-2 people.

Currently have a very modded console, TSOP'd and 128MB RAM upgraded, really enjoying it so far. So yeah, nice to meet you all, any questions are fine. I'll just be trying to join in the community.

    👋 welcome

I may as well tag a Q on the end here 😛

i have aquired another broken xbox FOC (They breed so fast! I have gone from 0 to 4 in 2 months!)

it was a easy fix to get it running again but it has a non functional Thomson DVD drive in it.

I might try the pot adjustment just to try and get a little life in it to read a mod disc but if not I was wondering does anyone know somewhere in the UK I could buy a laser assembly or 2?

Finding a replacement laser for a thomson is a bit like finding rocking horse shit. I have seen a few but they cost more than a Xbox.

I stored my xbox in a closet for several months and when I tried to play it again it first showed me error code 08, then I opened it up and moved a few things around and when I tried it again it showed up as error code 12. It seems to switch back and forth from one to the other, I’m not sure if it’s the disc drive that’s bad, the hdd or the cable that connects to both. It worked fine before. I can hear the disc drive read discs when I put one in and the hdd working.

Try booting with a retail disk in the dvd drive. It should play even if the hdd is corrupted.

    ............................or lock with Chimp 261812.

So that idea will work: using FatXplorer and simply repopulating C and E with the C and E content from the existing softmod.

Again just what I thought but needed to get confirmation just to be sure.

That was my first suggestion but the OP was not looking forward having to backup the hardmod HDD's ITB F and G content and then FTP it back. That's what he wants to avoid having to do.

Understandable when you have a properly formatted Xbox ready HDD but it just happens to be set up for a chip machine rather than a softmod.

I would tell them to backup their games to an external pc hdd anyway. It doesn’t take that long using fatxplorer.

I recently tried to softmod my old xbox and bricked the hdd due to not ejecting the game disc in the end of the installation process. Now the dashboard is gone and I can't even boot retail games using the machine.

I just bought an xbox with a modchip (xecuter 2) and I'm wondering if I could swap the hdd in the modded xbox with the bricked xbox and install the ms dashboard from a disc.

You will need the hdd key from the softmodded box to unlock the hdd, you can get this by using an eeprom reader. Once you have the hdd key you can fix the softmod using xboxhdm or just chip it.

  11. 9 hours ago, HDShadow said:

That's not going to work is it? The second HDD is set up for a hardmod. The only dashboard XBEs AFAIK are C:\xboxdash.xbe and, I think, C:\evoxdash.xbe. Without the chip's BIOS it will surely just boot from the xboxdash.xbe ie. the MS dash not the evoxdash.xbe.

Its a v1.6 so no TSOP possible and the guy has no desire to chipping it.

The locking is not the issue, its converting it to a softmod whilst preserving the F and G drives' content. If you're saying he can do that with XBHDM and you're sure its not going to affect F and G then that is a good alternative to consider.

That's what I thought was probably the case ie. that it would effectively corrupt anything existing on the the new HDD.

Any thoughts about the idea to repopulate C and E with softmod files, perhaps even those from the existing softmodded HDD?

Okay, use fatxplorer to transfer/delete the c and e partition, then lock with xboxhdm.

I can't find the answer to this anywhere but somebody on another forum wants to use Chimp 261812 to clone a softmodded HDD to one previously used with a chipped Xbox. The important thing is to preserve the F:\ and G:\ drives on the second HDD as there is around 1TB of games installed and they want to avoid having to FTP or copying them all over again.

The second HDD seems to be a perfectly normal, unlocked, chipped install so the obvious thing to suggest initially was using Chimp 261812 to clone his existing softmodded HDD. But when the requirement to preserve F:\ and G:\ on the slave drive was mentioned I realised I did not know the answer. None of the Chimp 261812 documentation or forum posts I've found anywhere appear to cover such matters.

So is it possible just to clone C:\ and E:\ using Chimp 261812 without affecting the F:\ and G:\ drive content?

If not is there another way of doing what is wanted? Maybe even better for example I thought about suggesting repopulating C:\ and E:\ with a softmod installation using FATXplorer and then using Chimp 261812 to lock it. Would that work?

You just need to lock the hdd with the same hdd key, use xboxhdm to do this on a pc.

I have a board that won’t power, had 3 caps gone below the cpu which I have changed for new and a slight trace corroded which I have jumped and still no power at all.

the PSU is good I’ve tried another and swapped power/eject buttons, so where do I look next?

Have you tested the other traces as e is the least likely to have an issue?

    I had a look on my c.

I dont actually have a indbios config file at all.

is there a default one I could copy over?

I assume the config file specifies which bios/dash to load?

If I power on with a tap it trys to load the normal MS dash (which obv fails) but if I hold power for 2 secs it loads the indbios and loads evo x dash.

You don’t need a config file for ind-bios to work just to set your preferences. Do you have a m$ dash xbe in your c partition? Post a pic of the root of your c partition.

Xbox turn on by itself after plugging to power mains. It is modded with alladin chip oldskool original. Tried different power supply, same thing, i had disconnected power button, controller ports, still, problem remains.

    Board looks clean.

What could be causing such thing?

    Thanks.

Have you tried it without the chip?

  16. 5 hours ago, prtscn said:

i got it like that. Chip works, changes modes, but there is no bios on board, not even backup.

You could try using the xenium to load flashbios and then do the hotswap. What version Xbox are you planning to use?

I’m gonna hook mine up to the software later today and see how I get on, I’ll report back...

ive got an old laptop knocking about somewhere, but no mini usb cable so I think I’ll just splice into the yellow cables with another usb if I can’t find a cable or mini to micro adaptor today.

My xp is an old dell dimension 3000.

I think it whiped my softmod and everything, can't boot into Hexen.

    anyone a solution?

So do you have a back up of your eeprom as you can use xboxhdm to rebuild your hdd?
