Don't have an external flash programmer to try and flash so probably Just install a 120gb drive in the xbox which the bios on chip should handle and load more games on to it.

I read that the v1.6/1.6b BIOS is a mask-programmed ROM (read-only memory) will give this a try "Try from the power off (Standby) state press and hold the power button for 10 to 15 seconds to power on."

Hi SS_Dave, I Tried xblast and when I try to flash xbox just reboots and chip is not flashed...Tried 1 second push of power button,2 second push of power button and more than 5 second push of power button but still can not get chip into flash enabled mode. So I do not think chip is flashable thats why I ask this "Do I need to flash it with an external device / EEPROM programmer. Or if I take out the SST 49LF002B chip from Aladdin and replace it with SST 49LF020A will I then be able to flash it.." cheers

Just looked out one of my old original xboxes, It has an Aladdin EX chip like one in picture..The xbox is a 1.6 and only has a 40gb drive and was going to upgrade it to a 250gb drive that I have... So I tried to flash with EvoxM8+ v1.6 BIOS which I ran through evtool to enable LBA48 support. But when I tried to flash it to Aladdin EX it just sticks on erasing as seen in picture. I have tried holding power for 1 second write to chip not enabled,tried 2 seconds same result, tried more than 5 seconds same result...So I take it that chip bios is not writeable. Do I need to flash it with an external device / EEPROM programmer. Or if I take out the SST 49LF002B chip from Aladdin and replace it with SST 49LF020A will I then be able to flash it...

I used them both 1= LiveInfo Beta 3 the one that knows about v1.0, v1.1-1.4 and v1.6 EEPROM encryption differences. It gave me this message (This EEprom could not be decrypted! This is not a Valid V1.0 or V1.1 EEprom image) 2= ConfigMagic v1.6 compatible version it gave me this message error4 eeprom is corrupt. Could I flash an eeprom from another working 1.6 xbox backup that I have to it? or just leave as it is seing as xbox is working

I have a Black xbox 1.6 Excalibur hard modded with Xecuter 2.6 and the xbox is running just fine and it seems there are no problems...I lost the original backup so made another with slayers disc, problem is when I try to read the backed up eeprom with Liveinfo Beta 3 I get this message (This EEprom could not be decrypted! This is not a Valid V1.0 or V1.1 EEprom image) So I tried to make a backup with config magic and get error4 eeprom is corrupt message... Should I be worried as xbox is running fine? or is there an easy way to fix the corrupt eeprom...thanks

Thanks for reply But I have taken old xbox drives to the skip so could not test...They were small drives 2 at 30gb 1 at 40gb and one 80gb...

Sorry by the time I had seen this post I had already taken drives to skip with rubbish...Had enough trying to unlock them...Even with FATXplorerBeta64, It saw drive then when I pointed it to eeprom and and presse unlock it fails. I have the same problem had a 40gb drive from old xbox and had it's backup eeprom etc and still got this message "IO error. The password is probably wrong" message...So tried all other password options but none worked... I have another 5 xbox drives that are from failed xboxes from 30gb up to 80gb none of which I have eeprom for so no chance of unlocking them to use on pc or in another xbox. are there no other options to format these to fat32, or ntsc etc?

Mate had an xecuter3 xbox he booted it up made Bios folder on his c partition and copied the 1mb bios backup I had on pc from my xbox and also copied xblast to his c partition. Then loaded xblast up to the flash bios from hard drive part then hotswapped his xecuter3 chip with my xecuter2.6 chip and had to hold a connection between his 5v cable and the 5v point on my chip as they were different then he held down left and right triggers, start and clear buttons on controller and it flashed my original backed up bios to my chip... He put his chip back in his xbox just to check his was still working and it booted up fine...so went home to try my flashed chip in mine and low and behold xbox springs back into life...woo hoo . PS I had allready tried a couple of different bios from auto installer deluxe disc but they did not work just froze at config live loading screen. So I was glad to find the above sollution with xblast.

we tried to install my xecuter2.6 chip in his but the 3 wires going to underside of board which have a connector are just to short to reach the connector on my xecuter2.6 chip did not want to unscrew and take out his motherboard and solder longer wires in case something got mucked up. Can the xecuter2.6 chip be taken to pc and flashed with a programmer?

I flashed M8plus_16 which I think was 256kbs but when I checked my backup from the 1.6 xbox that I had on the pc it had bios.bin 1,024 Also I had the front switch set at bank1 for some reason must have moved it accidentally while setting up to flash because when xbox was working it was set at bank2 and displayed XECUTER ROX MY BOX underneath the big x ... So with chip connected it boots hard drive and dvd drive spins up but boots to blank blue screen and when I take connectors out of chip and lift chip from board I can not even get it to boot to normal dash boots hard drive and dvd drive spins up but red flashing ring and blank blue screen.Tried with chip enabled and slayers disk in drive again but blank blue screen.As I said I have backup of eeprom.bin and bios.bin etc . Update I remembered I had another xbox that had an xecuter 2.6ce chip in so tried it in as connectors were the same except 5volt wire which I had to solder to chip, so with that set up and chip enabled on bank2 it xbox booted up to black screen with 480i@60Hz at bottom left of screen and COMPONENT below that then just stayed at black screen. As I said I have eeprom.bin and bios.bin backup from the xbox PS a mate has an xbox with executer3 installed would I be able to connect my 2.6 chip to his xbox and flash the chip without mucking up his xbox?

I have managed to unlock drive after a good few attempts so all good there...Thanks Kaos Engineer so asking if I could replace the 2 capacitors that are bulging at the top which are nichicon 6.3v3300 uF hm(m) capacitors black and grey in colour with the 2 rubycon 6.3v3300 uF mbz capacitors which are black and gold in colour that a mate has offered from an different board he used for spare parts. They are the same size and voltage etc

Got the xbox HDD key after a number of tries with dvd power disconnected then tried a number of times waiting till error 12 appeared then done a hotswap using IDE to USB adapter but nothing so I then tried a few times with as soon as x logo appeared on screen then hotswapped and eventually got it to be recognised with fatexplorer and managed to copy the c partition to pc which had a backup folder with eeprom.bin etc in it...So I believe I have to burn HDAT2 to disc and unlock the hard drive with that...

Ok so got pinheader installed chip and still nothing just loads MS dash so chip for some reason must have went faulty or something over the years in attic so kind of stuck, I think I need to find someone with an eeprom reader to get bios from board and then might be able to unlock the drive, at least then I might be able to see the drive on pc and recover the stuff from it...Could I softmod it with game save method? I know its not ideal but at least I could probably get the full 250gb drive back up and running...Or if I got the bios could I then install a smaller drive in the xbox? PS:- Tried xplorer360 and fatxplorer on pc and none of them can see the drive as as it prob because it is locked.

There was no blue light on modchip and no lights on dip switches and chip was set to on and also led lights set to on... I had a better look at motherboard today and found it is not a 1.6...Manufacture date = 13-1-2003 It has a Conexant video chip and samsung ram chips and power connector has 2 rows and also there seems to be a clock cap which I have shown in picture which has not been removed. So now not sure which board it has any ideas before I go any further.

Was cleaning attic and found old xbox from about 10 years ago, It had xecuter 2.6 solderless chip with pogo pins and D0 wire and 250gb drive , turned it on and it went straight to MS dash, opened up xbox cleaned it out took chip of pin headers cleaned it also resoldered the 3 wires from chip to back of motherboard. Booted up and again loaded MS dash so cleaned and resoldered again and tried and once again went to MS dash. Chip must have went faulty so unsoldered wires and took chip out..So now I have a 250gb hard drive that boots to MS dash. I did have a backup of the eeprom on my old pc back then but that has long gone and do not have any backup eeprom now. So i now have a 250gb hard drive with all the stuff on it and can not access it...Have included a picture of chip that was in xbox the three wires red,green and grey were soldered to underside of motherboard...Is there any way to access the drive which is locked ? Any help
