This is as simple as I can make it

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/j23v0poyjz2vobr/Raincoat.rar?dl=0

Unzip and FTP to you apps directory on the E drive or F drive or G: drive

You can also FTP your prefered BIOS to the bios folder  eg E:raincoat\bios

Reboot the xbox and now look for a app called RemoteX

Press A on the Flash bios using raincoat

    Cheers

    SS Dave

Soft modding is like masturbating, It get's the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

Ok flash done successfully :) Thanks.

  2. Ok so just to check I have this all right as I am having to jump between posts and I am a bit thick 😛

this is what I need to do:

    • enable "item: flash bios" in the ini file
    • Add the patched ind-bios.5003.06 file to c:\bios folder
    • I assume I now need to use the flash bios option previously enabled to flash the above bios?
    • move c:\evoxdash.xbe and c:\evox.ini to E:\ drive
    • move c:\bios and c:\skins to e:\
    • Upload dashloader place on c contents to the root of c:\
    • Upload ind-bios.cfg from archive to root of c:\
    • Reboot xbox

      That all correct?

      Cheers

I see.  To work with the unofficial patched iND-BiOS 5003.06 version.  Extract the files from the previously attached zip archive.

Upload the iND-BiOS.5003.06.bin file to C:\BIOS and ind-bios.cfg to C:\. Edit: Already did that step in the previous post. :)

Download then upload a copy of the current C:\evoxdash.xbe and C:\evox.ini files to E:\.

If you have a BIOS and Skin folder in C:\ move them to E:\. (oops, evoxdash doesn't have a built-in file explorer/manager - you'll have to download these folders to your PC then upload them to the E drive.

Next, upload the content of the extracted zip archive's folder - Dashloader Place on C - to the root of the C drive.  The content inside the folder, not the Dashloader Place on C folder itself to the root of the C drive.  Overwrite evoxdash.xbe when asked by your FTP client.

    Edit: Oh, Reboot. :)

Edit 2: If all went well, you should see the evox dashboard the same as it was before. However, it is now being loaded by the dashloader application, also named evoxdash.xbe but a different size, from E:\evoxdash.xbe instead of directly by the BIOS from C:\evoxdash.xbe.

Bloody hell what have I started? LOL

Right so just to confirm before I break anything is this ^ What I need to do?

I have just woke up and I got totally lost somewhere in all those posts lol

You can use the iND-BiOS.5003.06.bin file found in the attached zip file to reflash your modchip to have larger hard drive support.  The current ALX2+ BIOS does not (at least I don't believe it does) support hard drives larger than 137GBs. If you do install one larger than that, only the first 137GBs can be accessed.

    Ok cool, Cheers.

how do I reflash the bios exactly?

do I just copy it somewhere or do I have to use a program?

  5. 6 minutes ago, KaosEngineer said:

You can reflash a different modified Xbox BIOS to the USER writeable 256KB bank (currently the ALX2+ Blue BIOS).  The ALX2+ RED BIOS cannot be overwritten. It is stored in a write-protected section of the flash memory on the modchip.

If you want to install a larger than 137GB hard drive in this Xbox, I'd suggest you Flash another BIOS to the USER flashable (currently blue) bank.

    iND-BiOS 5003.67 or M8plus with the latest LBA48 patch applied set for F and G (partitions 6 and 7).

There's an unofficial update for the iND-BiOS 5003.67 release that fixes a couple of HUGE bugs in that release.

Attached are the evox M8plus BIOS, the unofficial patched ind-bios and additional tools by Rocky5 along with the official ind-bios 5003.67 and 5004.67 BIOSes and their ind-bios.cfg file that goes in the root folder of the C drive.

    Thanks Kaos,

do you have a guide to a noob friendly guide for doing that?

I have a 256gb SATA drive here I was thinking of using if I can get it to work.

  6. Just now, KaosEngineer said:

Looks like the largest hard drive the ALX2+ BIOS supports is 137GBs.  Just like the stock MS 5101 Xbox BIOS.  It doesn't have LBA48 extensions well not the latest required by XBPartitioner v1.3 to support reading a partition table from the hard drive to override the BIOS's default configuration or possibly 32KB and 64KB cluster sizes for larger than 256GB extended partition sizes.

So is that bios upgradeable somehow or is it defined by the mod chip?

  7. 5 minutes ago, KaosEngineer said:

There's another line your evox.ini file is missing well there are lots of lines commented out pertaining to flashing a BIOS to the chip. However, this one is really all you need so leave those others commented out for now.

    • Item "Flash BIOS",ID_Flash_Bios

Add it to your System Management section of the menu.

Upload the BIOSes' dot bin files to C:\BIOS if evoxdash.xbe is installed in the root folder of the C drive.

Sorry I dont understand, Is that to do with the files you need or me changing the HDD?

    or something else completely? Lol

    Thank you.

I've been wonder which BIOS they edited to change the text under the big X to ALX2+.

I'll flash them to my X3 and find out.

That's a horrible skin.  It is limited in the useful information it provides.  BIOS name but needs to have the Kernel version number as well.

Guess it's not all that bad - has more than others but....

No prob, Glad I could give a little back, I have a feeling I will have many more questions in the coming weeks as I navigate my way through this haha :)
Yes I agree, It tells me a load of info but I have little control over any of it 😛

Here you go mate, Hope they help!

As a side note, When I get a working DVD for this thing, Will I be able to upgrade the HDD like you do with a TSOP'd machine?
i.e. remove old, plug in new with hexen disk in drive and reinstall everything?

Or will it be more complicated than that?

I was intending on modding this one myself to learn but have been a little surprised and scuppered by the DVD being broken in transit and the mod chip being in it.
I dont think the previous owner knew it was there!!

I'd need to see all of the menu options available for your installation of the Evoxdash.  The evox.ini file will have them all since they don't all fit on the screen at one time to see them in a screen capture.

Attach a copy of evox.ini to a message via the choose files option (or Drag files here paperclip) below the new message entry box or upload it to pastebin.com and add the link to it in another post.

Here you go, I get the feeling this dash is locked down to some degree as there seems to be lots I can not do.
I was going to ask if its a really old version and if I need to update it somehow as I would like to stick a bigger HDD in it.

But as I dont have a DVD drive atm I know its not going to happen atm LOL

It may already be saved on the hard drive.

Is your Xbox connected to your home network?

If so, FTP to the console and look for a C:\Backup folder.  Inside there should be several files:

    • bios.bin  (backup copy of the BIOS that booted from the modchip)
    • eeprom.bin (important file to save to your PC and a couple other spots for safe keeping in case the HDD drive dies - well not so much so for a hard modded console.  The HDD doesn't have to be locked.
    • disk.bin (backup copy of the first 1024 sectors of the hard drive - configuration area)
    • hddinfo.txt
    • hddkey.bin

It's the bios.bin file that I'm looking to obtain.  Download the file then do another Evoxdash Backup operation to obtain a copy of the RED Boot Backup BIOS after powering on with Power+Eject held for 1-2 seconds.

    - preprogrammed with RED BIOS
    - this BIOS is write protected and always available

Press & hold POWER+EJECT buttons for 1-2 seconds

Ok I have had a look today but I have no c:\backup folder when I FTP in.
Also I can not seem to see any backup options in any of the Dash menus.

    Yes it does!

If you tell me how to get it for you I will happily do so :)

I am new to all of this....

  14. Ahh thank you guys!

so there is a hacked dash on here after all!

so I should be able to FTP to it as normal with that shouldn't I?

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1X0Fn31t2KmlkS2TGOnQVylYNJP8LUV9Z/view?usp=drivesdk

as a side note I completely stripped the DVD and you were right its meant to be mounted under the lens but theres 0 chance of me being able to glue it back in place as its on fine legs.

    So yeah thats scrap unfortunatly!

Is a Thomson drive, it goes on the underside if you are looking down on the laser lens.

It’s chipped, is it booting up okay? Try booting power button or the eject to see if one is ms and other something like unleashx.

Its a Phillips drive, Seems to be booting ok in to the normal dash.
What do you mean about booting power or eject buttons though?

  16. 4 minutes ago, Ging3rguy said:

Focus isn’t great but it looks like it may be the laser mirror.

If you will have a working disk drive you can just swap it between the 2 xboxs.

The new Xbox is just retail at the moment?

Yeah its a sort of semi transparent mirrored plastic, I thought I may be able to stick it back in somewhere but I cant work out where its from.

The one that I have on route is already TSOP flashed, this one seems to have a stock dash and I think a larger HDD (but I cant see the actual capacity on it!).
But I think it has been mod chipped as it has some soldered wires going to a little pcb attached to the board under the DVD drive (see pic in first post).
Not really sure what it is or does though.

Do you have a working dvd drive in your other Xbox?

Has not arrived yet so not sure but I hope so LOL

I opened up the drive to see if it was anything obvious, I found this in the bottom rattling around:

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/19yQcy_Pn72BOfH0PHGRZghtD7vU3_80Z/view?usp=drivesdk

Dont know what it is or where it came from but I presume its part of the laser assembley?

  18. Howdy all!

    So first tech Q.

As some of you may know I recently have got a XBOX sent to me from a friend so I have been purchasing the extras controllers, cables etc.
Anyways I brought a bundle of controllers that came with a xbox FOC! Now it was listed as working which it is but the DVD drive wont read disc's and it rattles!
The seller packaged i very poorly so I suspect it was damaged in transit.

Now other than that and the leaking clock cap (which I have pulled off and cleaned up) it seems to be fine, and looks like it has a mod chip installed?

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1IB92couhg9q7x4Nfi5Hkt9lNWHT_ATwL/view?usp=sharing

So what I am wondering is do I have any options with this thing? I know I could replace the drive but I was wondering if there was a way I could use my other TSOP'd box to sort of build a HDD for it and put it in this one or some other way of transfering stuff to the HDD?

It seems to have a stock dashboard on it and I obv cant use a hexen disc.

Any thoughts appreciated as it seems a shame to side line it for the sakes of a dvd drive.

    Cheers.
