If you want a different temperature try a different dash😀

Well long as it stays where it is then ime ok heh.

Its been FTP’ing over files for the last few hours and stayed pretty consistent temp wise.

seems to cap out at 55.8 then drop back down to 55.

I have read this about right temp wise and that most dashes read consistently high so think ime good.

I checked the exhaust with the thermal camera and its only pushing out 38.

it seems I was slightly missled by what I thought was a trusted source regarding average temps for idle and running.

Since found most people saying their consoles sit around 55 so I am happy leaving it be and playing some halo after the FTP is finished.

still feeling a little light headed from the cleaner so I think I will wait until its a nice day to do the other consoles heat sinks so I can do it outside lol

  2. So little update:
The paste remover came today and I cleaned all the chips and sinks off, applied new paste and crossed my fingers hoping for the best.....

So on start up she started ok, no issues and I left it on the idle screen for 15 mins to warm up.
Strangely and disappointingly it climbed up to 52 degrees which is what it was reading before I changed the paste.....

On the plus side though I then thought lets give it a real test and played DOA3 for 15 mins.
No problems of GFX glitches etc and when I left game I was still sat at 52 degrees so cant be bad right???

There must be another character in the name that it doesn't like other than the hyphen.

I cant explain it, But it transferred after so no biggy.
    Very strange though haha.

At least I know what to look for now after several hours of buggering around with settings etc 😛

I have some arctic silver but have never used it, I have never removed the paste and have seen some f###ed boards from owners just levering off the heat sinks. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

Well the one ones I have pulled off were idling at 50 something so I think it would of broke sooner rather than later heh.

Fingers crossed it all goes back together again and stays cooler!

You can control temp with your dash, the only problem is as soon as you play a game that stops working, if you are concerned about the temp adjust the fan speed in your bios. The Xbox will just turn off if it gets to hot, I have read that it cuts out at 72 C.

Yeah this is the issue really, I cant see what the temp is of the chips while in game which is obv when it will work hardest, But at over 50% of its max in idle it seems to me to be running warm.
But I had read while idle it should be mid 30's to 40.

I intend on fitting a temp monitor in the future but they are coming from china so may be some time on that one lol.

Either way I dont think it could be worse with some fresh paste as this stuff is rock solid and looks like it has air bubbles in it!

I might try playing halo for 10 mins then turn off and back on to see what the reading is then, I had heard unleash X is not that acurate with its temps and always reads high but it might give me some idea of the variance to compare.

Temperature testing I have done on the GPU using a fluke temperature probe showed no drop in temperature with new paste where the CPU was better on some but not all.

Well I hope it makes a good difference as 46 on idle seems to high to me.

hate to think what it would be playing for a hour heh.

I use a small pick tool or a small flat blade screwdriver at the back of the clip/heatsink to convince it to come off.

Thats what I did, Was just worried about breaking them or slipping and hitting something else!

I figured I would practice on the one and fingers crossed all goes well!

Then re-do the 2nd unit to.

I had heard the original Xbox thermal paste was junk but yeah that stuff looks nasty lol

I don't normally worry about the GPU and I only do the CPU if the temps are high or the heatsink is able to move easily.

The heat sinks moved pretty easy once it had been on for a hour or so.

The clips were the hard part to remove, They just didnt want to unclip!

I use wax and grease remover to clean the old paste off or you can use acetone(nail polish remover) then wipe over with isopropanol.

The paint thing comes from when I would build engines I found that the pretty chrome looking ones always ran hotter compared to the boring black painted ones.

I noticed at least a 1 if not 2 deg celsius drop with the black heat sink and this was about 3 or 4 c drop on it's own

    It all adds up.

Oh thats cool, I have ordered some proper thermal paste cleaner but it wont arrive till Wed.
Hoping that a good clean and some MX-4 will bring the temps down allot, To be fair when I pulled the sinks off the other xbox which is running even warmer the old paste looked hard and scabby so I am not surprised tbh.....

    What do you call up?

This has been idling for 6 hours.

    IMG_20200725_144419.thumb.jpg.8b30cfa524dd5267af862b756b3afeeb.jpg

    It's a 1.4 with 128meg ram and currently running a 2tb origins drive.

And I used Arctic silver 5 paste on the CPU only and painted the heat sink mat black.

    Cheers

CPU at 46 after idling for around 1 hour.

I have some MX4 paste but no cleaner atm, waiting for that to arrive.

Out of interest why paint the heat sink? Never heard of that before heh

  11. So back on topic :D

My double ended male connection (phwooaarrr) arrived today so I could connect up the CF card adapter.
    dHz7Qvw.jpg

All works great! And its FAST, My FTP speeds have gone from 4 mb/s to 10-11 mb/s, Loading also seems faster but I cant confirm that atm but once its all up and running I will do some speed testing between the CF and the SD.

I noticed my temps are high though so I am going to change the thermal paste before any hard gaming goes on,  dont want to melt the chips after all this effort LOL.

I also noted when playing with unleash X it has a temp threshold, Am I right in thinking this shuts of the xbox if that threshold is met? Or does it just flag up a warning or somthing?
Seems a really good feature :)

The FATX filesystem has a limited allowed character set:

    ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZabcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz0123456789!#$%&'()-.@[]^_`{}~ (including the space character)

    No comma allowed.

Yeah its seems to be selective about hyphens as will, "Halo - Combat evolved" transfered ok, "DOA 3 - Volley ball" didnt until I took the - out.
Very weird but never mind lol.

  13. Ahhhh I have figured it out!

So if anyone else happens to have this issue in future, Its to do with the folder names (Well seems to be) I deleted all special Characters such as brackets or commas and its now working :)

  14. Sorry not sure if this is in the wrong area, Wasnt sure where to post but I figured it would be better to start a new thread for a specific problem than to continue derailing another....

Sooo I have done a fresh install to a 256gb SD card that all went well using slayer 2.7 disc.

As per Daves advice I have also reallocated all the G drives memory to the F drive using xbpartioner (hopfully done correctly 😛 )

Now my problems start with FTP'ing over the games to the drive, I setup filezilla as per this video:

But with the exception because I can not change my users on the XBOX I changed the max transfers on file zilla to 1.
I transfered Halo over no problem and that works fine BUT I can not transfer any other game folder, It just instant fails every file with the following error:

Response:    553 Requested action not taken.

    Any ideas chaps?

    Cheers.

I will get back to you on that, Just managed to kill it again LOL

Had a red light and a "you need a service" message after trying to inject a game into the SD card.....

Try with the default size cluster (16kb)

    Soooo

I have re-done the install again after accidentally killing it 😛
I also now have a rather tasty 236gb F drive partition.
I have also changed my dash to EvoX which I think looks a little nicer and lets me change more options.

BUT I still cant FTP anything over other than halo :s

Yes extract and FTP to E:drive then use the file explorer to locate the folder and run the Default.XBE file

Ok so I have deleted partition 7 and put the space to partition 6, But I cant work out how to change the cluster size?

  18. 1 minute ago, SS_Dave said:

Yes and no if it under 137gig it will.

Run xbpartitioner 1.3 to set the F drive (Partition 6) to max and I would use 32kb clusters

    Ahh OK!

Is that on the slayer disk or anything or is that a seperate download?
