    Yes and No

I would be possible to set up a hard drive on a hard modded Xbox(TSOP flashed, Modchipped) but it's not as simple a locking the hard drive

The Hard drive need the softmod boot files in order to boot the Dash of you choice or set up the drive as a stock drive with the M$ dash

A lot of softmods don't play nice with hard modded Xbox so it's either a softmod or a hardmod.

In my opinion just fit a modchip use a install disk to set up the drive the connect the HDD to a PC and copy all your game's over with FATXplorer.

    Cheers

Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

    Cheers Dave.

I figured it would not be as easy as it should be.

As I am learning I am finding that seems to be the case with the consoles lol

  2. G'day guys,

Just a quick one, Today I aquired a Crystal XBOX, I was under the impression they were all 1.6 but after I soft mod'd its ID'ing it as a 1.4?
From what I have read this may mean its actually a 1.5 as it was manufactured in 2004.

So I know I need to pull the clock cap (which appears dead anyway) But I have opened her up and thankfully no damage to the board that I can see but its a different cap layout to the ones I have pulled before.
Or is this actually a 1.6 and I can leave it be?

So can you confirm its this cap I need to pull out?

    cVvXQd4.jpg

As you can see the board is totally filthy so tomorrow I intend on pulling the cap and giving it a good blow out :)

    Cheers.

  3. I went through this whole temp question myself a few weeks ago after reading on a website that it should idle at 30 degrees and play games no higher than 50.

What I found was mine idled at 50 and went up to about 58 while playing a game.

I changed the thermal paste and a few other things but when I dug deeper I found that most people seem to report higher temps more consistent with what I was getting, I found when it got to around 58 it would cool down by a few degrees and then slowly climb back to 58 rinse and repeat.

That was according to unleash X anyway....

What I also found is once I fitted a digital temp monitor taking a reading direct from the heat sink it was about 10 degrees less than the dash was reporting.

Use XBMC instead of UnleashX to FTP over the files that have no filename extension.  UnleashX creates folders in their place and will not upload the file since a folder of the same name exists already (BUG in UnleashX's FTP server!).

    Ahhh ok thank you!

  5. Cheers,

Well I downloaded the KIxxx 1.3 set Kaos mentioned.

But for some reason I can not get the KI roms to FTP over!

The KI2 roms transfered over no prob and plays fine on the emu.

But KI fails every time, For some reason it makes a folder with the same name as the rom file but will not transfer the actual rom and tells me there is a file already there with the same name. Even though the folder is empty!!

I presume thats due to it making a folder itself by the same name but I dunno.

Anyone have any idea WTF that is all about?

KIxxx 1.3 SPLIT by SPPV available in the download section of emuxtras.net has all the files included for KI 1 and 2 ready to ftp over to the console.

    Thanks :)

The nice part, if you use XBMC4Gamers or XBMC-Emustation, you can use the built-in downloader to download KI-XXX. Also, XBMC-Emustation acts like Emustation and you can have more retro/emulation fun. :)

I already have KI-XXX just not sure how to add the roms/chds to it heh.

Not tried XBMC emulation station yet but it does look pretty.

  8. Howdy people :)

After a friend of mine saw all my hard work on my recently acquired xbox he asked if I could mod his and turn it into a emulation machine.

I of course jumped at the chance to play with this system some more and try some emulation on it that I had heard so much about!
I got Mameox, Genesis and SNES emus working great on it then I discovered you can get KI working on it to (which does not seem to load in mame)

Being one of my fave fighters I would really love to get this going but I cant seem to find any instructions or tutorials for its use!

Anybody used this or know how to get it running?

This is more about me than my friend at this point as I dont think he is bothered about KI but I would love it on my machine :D

    Cheers :)

You normally only need to use the password when using the hexen files on the hdd. When doing an install from the main screen from dvd you shouldn’t get that?

Mind you it has been a while since I have used it. I think the idea of the password was to stop user f###ing things up by accident, they would have to do it on purpose 😀

Nah that was trying to do a new install from the dvd!

I was like WTF is this? I aint set no password!

  10. As above really, After trying a Pound HDMI converter and finding it lacking I was looking for a OG box component lead to get the most out of these little gems.

But the only ones I can see on Ebay are the £5 jobies which may or may not be shielded but prob not....

    such as these:

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/273917043356

So anyone know where I can get one? Ime fine with 3rd party stuff and dont mind paying upto £20-30 but I aint paying the asking prices of the originals lol

Cheers, I am happy with how the mod came out, Wasnt sure how well it was going to work but the Cage lid does a reasonable job of reflecting the light and the White Vinyl I used on the Jewel defuses the light well.

    I like the jewel mod.

Btw. here some inspiration for your next X-Box. :

Edit : Hmmm.... no video  LInk : hxxps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yLfYTDVrjLQ

    Thats cool!

I do have some temp monitors on way but not so much of a worry now I have changed the thermal paste I hope.

The paste change on this one went much smoother than the last!

That's a Pound cable POS(Piece Of Shit) for you.

The one I got does that on all versions of Xbox and recapping made no difference.

    Gladit aint just mine then!

ile send the bugger back and stick to SCART I think.

  13. Bit of a shame I didnt jump in this thread sooner.

I got one of the pound HDMI cables through the post today and it just cuts in and out like its constantly loosing and re-finding signal :(

Will try it in the other box and on the other TV tomorrow but I wont hold my breath.

The GPU temperature is actually the mother board temperature as the sencore is about 20 mm toward the front from the MCPX chip.

I stuck a temperature probe in the fan outlet and 2 hours of idling while setting up a XBMC4Gamers  the top temp was 38c.

    Cheers

Ahhh I thought it was odd to have a mobo temp LOL
I have not noticed my "mobo" reading exceed 45 since the thermal paste change, which is cooler than before as I think the max I noticed before was 52?

When I tested the exhaust with my thermal camera I was getting the same 38 read out pretty much consistently for several hours so I think its running as efficiently as it can now :)

Just spent a hour playing Halo, Was nice to actually just play instead of monitoring and experimenting lol.

Would of played longer but ya know... Life... heh

Coming back to your heat sink Dave what did you paint it with out of interest?
I am quite intrigued by this colour changing black magic LOL
Did you just spray it black with regular paint or use some sort of special heat resistant paint?

I think I am basically done mod wise with this Xbox now and will hopefully be good for another 20 years unless the caps need doing at some point 😛

Install a temp sensor or two under the cpu and gpu block close to the die.

And 55 is fine if you have normal ambient temps. In case you' re sitting outside in Alaska the 55 could be a bit hot. ;) Atm i'm still working on my slim (~50% done) and i have idle temps about 40°C and ~25/26°C room Temp. on a test run i had between 52 and 55°C.  I used Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut as termalpaste and well, i guess i ahve o tell, i have cooler on the gpu and cpu so, you could say i'm cheating a little. :D And yea no DVD (ofc slim) and no normal harddrive. For that i have used an SATA to IDE and a normal 500 GB SSD with no housing. So there ist not much which could produce heat whcih makes me more a cheater i guess. :D And the build isn't final yet. After i saw the lates Video from " Tech On Top" ( Link  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=av5k-40BFkU ) i guess i will change some more things. Right now i sleeve all the cables. When it's done i will post some pics but ofc it will not look like any close to that nice little beast from Tech on top. That guy is pretty good in my opinion.

Found some topos? Tell me where and you get some more for free. :D

Thankfully not in Alaska but it does get pretty cool here in the UK over winter LOL.
Just wet and humid atm and to be fair its been pretty hot today.
This one is stock v1.1 so no additional cooling on this one and the Only other thing I have changed on it is the HDD which I have swapped for a SD card adapter, My DVD drive is also shot in this one so thats been unplugged so no heat generation off that either 😛

The other console I plan to change the paste on is a stock 1.0 which obv has the additional CPU fan. That one is fitted with a CF card adapter but has a working DVD drive.

I have ordered a pair of LCD temp monitors from ebay, but they are coming from china so may be a while waiting for them.....

Thats a very funky looking slim! Bit beyond my skill level though, I suck at soldering lol
