  1. I was browsing eBay to buy a cable as suggested, as prices of Startech are way too high for me and I have already a cheap adapter (green one, that seems to make the HDD run and "buzz" as usual, red led turns on, but no identification of HDD by SlayerEvox installer... that just pretends to format and install in some seconds all the contents then says "Done" but actually not). What "magic words" (meaning requirements) should be checked to find the right one ? For example, are this or this ok? What makes them different from the original Xbox cable (just a curiosity) ?
  2. thank you all very much, that guide will surely be helpful for further settings, I'll try editing the config files a mentioned.
  3. So basically under section emulators (or games, apps, etc...) I have to add the line item "e:\customapp\default.xbe" with "customapp" being the interested game ?
  4. Recently I've installed an emulator that couldn't be placed in F: partition (not enough space), so I placed it in E: partition (I know, unproper, it should be for savegames). It runs ok, but only from File Explorer. How can I edit it so it appears on the emulators list (basically how to create a link) ? Of course, can this be done with other games and apps? Will it work both on Evox dash and others (UnleashX, Avalaunch and XBMC) in the same way ?
  5. Yeah, free is better XD woah, so there is a way to make it work. glad to know I wasn't so wrong afterall, even though that seems lot of work requiring extra hardware skills I don't have... so I think I'll just use my Xbox as retrogaming console (nes, snes, gba, genesis, etc.. no n64 and psx because they're laggy or they don't even work at all) untill I can sell it (too much money spent on it already, gotta take it back)... unless prices of drives and adapters get a real decrease, honestly I can't spend 30€ on an adapter that I don't if it will work or not on a console that I don't know how long will last (not talking about IDE drives too, whose prices got increased thanks to the "vintage" factor). too bad I can't play some exclusives and pc emulation is still very unstable. I'll just try to get on with it or wait for some genius to come up with a ftp/ethernet loader that loads game off another computer... which is definitely unprobable even if already seen (I recall some dude playing PS2 isos through net cable). thanks anyone for the precious info anyway, hope they'd be at least useful for others
  6. I think I have one from an old PC, but I don't know to recognize it from the xbox cable, I just saw it has a blue end (the longer part), but it's shorter, it will be difficult to connect if from motherboard to dvd drive. I'll try tomorrow... in the meanwhile, is this one the Startech one I should buy and does it work with the original xbox cables and 2.5 sata drives?
  7. I've found them on ebay too, but they're 30€ (or even 70€, from Germany) against the 10€ or less for an alternative.. :edit: just realized that adapter is reverse. pretty embarassing... guess I'll just try another cheap alternative, some people have reported startech adapter not working sometimes as well, probably just a matter of luck.
  8. Can it be summarized into text, thanks? I don't like Youtube tutorials ... and I don't think it answers directly to my question.
  9. I tried that and it didn't work, or at least not with Slayer 2.7 installer as mentioned before. I tried it with 2 sata drives (3.5 and 2.5, 1tb and 120gb)... guess it was faulty because it had strange liquid signs around here and there. strangely, the red led was on when the hard drive was plugged. I heard somebody said on reddit that formating the drive to fatx could help, but fatxplored told "access denied" right at the end of the wizard (that seemed for xbox360 hd anyway, so I don't know if I was following the right procedure... with an ide drive it just went smooth, recognized two drives 4gb and 40gb no problem) I'm just using the original cables of the xbox Can't provide the link (it says error) but it's easy to find on amazon or ebay under "ide sata adapter" Oh I also forgot to put the right link on the first post when I say "this one"... I meant the green one that didn't work.
  10. Currently it's the cheapest on eBay, for my location (found some Startech ones, which are generally most suggested online, but they cost 50€ wth). Asking this because last time I tried another adapter (this one), Slayer Evox installer didn't recognize it (showed 0 for all partitions on the main screen, then faked to formating and copying files -very quickly).
  11. It seemed the problem wasn't in the motherboard or any connection, it was the hard drive because I just changed it and installed SlayerEvoX: with the new hard drive it all went pretty smoothly, with the older one even after formatting it sounded and acted the same...
  12. Unfortunely I don't have that equipment, neither the technical knowledge to achieve that. In simple terms, can it be due to power cable? I also noticed I got a little electro shock while plugging it...
  13. Lately the hard drive makes strange sounds, like "jumping" or scratching etc. So I formatted it(both low and hard level, with standard partition softwares) , checked it in Windows and done various tests like sectors and surfaces test: no problems were found. I reinstalled Slayer's Evox (latest), reuploaded all stuff, etc: same problems. At first boot, after many hours of inactivity, it goes well, but after a bit or just randomly the HD makes such weird sounds and the game crashes (especially Rallisport Challenge, a little more rarely with other games, both launched with TSR and IGR options set in various ways... though I noticed the problem is less frequent when TSR is on Normal and IGR is enabled). Maybe the HD is ok (also checked its compatibility before buying from the HD compatible chart I can't find now) but something else is wrong? I dusted the Xbox out, reconnected all cables: the problem is still there. Maybe it's not the sectors but the reader or any other part of the HD? Or maybe it's the way how files are uploaded to be wrong ( I use Filezilla, a router and normal ethernet cables, no crossover) ?
  14. Yup, I played ISS2 (and still got to complete International Cup with ALL teams in ALL difficulties... just to get some stars and probably a bonus stadium, lol) for Gamecube. It's a great game indeed. PES ... I don't know I think the series radically changed from ISS Pro Evolution on... too much FIFA-like, too technical for me...
  15. I mean, played FIFA and it's like... ultra-complex campaign mode... very limited number of national teams (lots of useless clubs)... NO EDITOR (really? that's the funniest part, to build your own team!)... complex commands (some sort of mix between PES and older FIFA titles... switching player makes my mind stun...)... isn't there something really simple like older ISS games or even Virtua Striker series? Asking here instead of usual "top 10 soccer games" pages because those pages only talk about PES and FIFA. Of course, I'm not looking for excellent games... even "decent" are ok to me.
  16. nothing bad happened, 2 hrs gameplay, all in the norm...
  17. honestly, I don't want to go through the pain of disassembling it all again. I just want to know if it happened to anybody else before. I recently played the Xbox for 10 minutes and I didn't notice anything wrong (like smoke coming out, or the console going frenzy or something... all in the norm, even the temp were OK). So is there a possibility some parts of the motherboard are not so necessary to make the console work... like some sensors or something ? the component anyway is lost, I mean, when I saw it turning into smoke (something like burnt plastic/metal smell after the accension and a little flame smaller than the one of a candle) I took it with my fingers and it solved into dust... and it didn't take too much of an effort because it wasn't seem to be attached to the motherboard like with metallic extensions or something. It was in the part of the motherboard near the 1st controller port (weirdly, the same port where I connected the PS2 joypad adapter... so most probably something came out and the burnt plastic smoke I smelled was just the superficial part of the motherboard getting bruised by combustion... or now that I think of it.. glue or similar material?) I'm going to play it with it further anyway, I'll let you know if it finally dies, lol...
  18. I don't exactly know what I did. I just tested a PS2 joypad adapter which worked for a little while, then the console just turned off by itself, receiving no power as I tried to repeatedly turn it on to no avail. I opened it, dusted it off and tried to turn it on with both disc drives removed and un-connected (just to watch what was happening inside): the console turned on but for just a moment, the little fan started spinning but for just a second, I repeated that many times until a tiny little "something" nearby the 1st controller port started going on fire and blown. I dusted that off too (it literally melted, turned to dust in my fingers), tried to turn it on and it worked so I reconnected the drives and it works like before but I wonder: what was that and why that happened after I tried to use the PS2 joypad adapter? Now the console works, but I notice from beyond the plastic "grates" of the side there's a red led on the motherboard. Did I remove an obstacle to the correct functioning (a material bug or something) or did I accidentally removed a crucial part of the motherboard (like a chip, a transistor, etc... sorry for my ignorance I just noticed it when it was on fire for a second, something like extremely little smoking up then nothing)? I also checked the temp after a 2 minutes gameplay it went from 70 to 90 then it stayed stable... what should I do to prevent further damage?
  19. I can't see it on Evox trainers list.. Basically I need to overcome a certain bug of the game that doesn't make you gain further skill points once you reach the top grade in career mode (not looking for a complete savegame or other cheats, just something that unlocks the stats).
  20. Oh well, that's no problem afterall... I already got CMR05 as rally game. Unless there's another decent rally game worth to try (that is not available for PC, of course), I guess I can just trash V-Rally 3 and leave room for better stuff on the drive...
  21. k, I'll try to upload them first, then I'll see what they ask for about location and menu item, the dashboards (slayers, xbxmc, etc...) show a separate section... but the way how my drive is set has Games, Emulators and Roms as separated folder in F: drive... well, I'll see how each emulator works first, then I'll upload the roms.
  22. Sorry for opening another topic so soon, with the other one un-replied, I just needed to know how to properly manage the upload of roms and emulators on a hard-modded Xbox with Slayers 2.7 as default dashboard. Basically, I got a lot of roms and some good new emulators (alongside the ones which were already installed with the dashboard). Where do I put each roms (they're a lot of stuff)? Do I need to make folders like "Nintendo 64", "Nes", etc.. asking you this because there's a "Roms" folder in "F:" drive but many of the files can have the same name (as they're usually in .zip format). Do I have to place the roms in specific folder of the emulator or there's a specific setting to follow ? Should emulators be uploaded in "Emulators" or "Games" folders ? thanks
  23. I'm looking for 100% unlocked save game for V-Rally 3, couldn't find it on Gamefaq or the other site ( XBOX-SAVES ). Has anyone finished this hell of a game ?
  24. yep, I experienced that on the other custom dash... the noise could be no problem (I can just use headphones), unless it's dangerous for the engine itself (but wouldn't it be paradoxical, I mean... does the fan at 100% cause overheating by absurd ? )
  25. Thanks, I'll try that on the next upload As for the temp I've mentioned on my xbox, which fan speed is suggested ? 100% ?
