Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

How should I go about cleaning it?

HaHa the controllers operate on 5 volt so the worst that would happen is it did not work. The fact it's work is all that matters.

Only issue im really having is that the A button doesnt register with light taps, I have to press and hold noticeably to get it going. Is that wiring or just how I put it together causing that?

  3. Is it possible to do a full on cable replacement? I'd like to have the cable as intact as I can get it.
EDIT: If there doesnt happen to be a method of replacing the wire or any spare wire sellers out there, what steps would you recommend for identifying/repairing the damage section of the cable?

  4. 2 of the 3 original xbox controllers I bought a few weeks back off of a ebay arent working, everything feels fine but the xbox doesnt seem to realize theyre plugged in even if I swap out the break away cables. Not really sure what could be causing this other than a guess that its the wire itself. Any tips on how to repair or replace the issue so these work?

I would triple check all the connections to do with the modchip and have a look for solder splashes.

I you can post some pics of the chip install that would help.

This wasnt a problem that occured until after I replaced the IDE cable and HDD so im uncertain if that would be the case

  6. SO when I turn it on, it starts and stops a few times before it finally gets going and then when it does I get no image or sound and the light just flashes red and green. At first I thought it was my IDE adapter on my new hard drive, but when I replaced the unnamed brand one with a startech it still did it. To be clear, my xbox DOES work if I keep fucking with the power button and I can play games normally (Have not extensively tested to see if it randomly shuts off or anything after a long period of time. Anyone know what the problem could be?

The cable sounds like it will be alright they are 40 pins and 80 wires ..

On the adaptor if there is a link to select master/slave make sure it is on master.

and a pic would be helpful..

I think I bough the startech cable as it was the only even remotely decent looking one I could fine and yeah it should be an 80 pin. I have a converter as a go between my hard drive and it since it wouldnt plug straight into the thing, the middle cable for the DVD drive I had to fold alot because it wasn't the way round  so im wondering if thats whats causing it. I'll get a picture of it here in a bit

  9. Not sure if this is because of my heatsink or some other issue, but ever since I put in my new hard drive and have been using my xbox more, ive noticed itll refuse to turn on (itll just turn itself off and on without ever  coming up with any visuals or audio) or itll flash red and green. I read that this could be an issue with how the IDE is cable is put in, but I had to fold it alot just to get it all in the right positions to be plugged in :'/ Edit: I was able to get it to turn itself back on properly after I unplugged it for a bit and plugged it back in, unsure if thats a one off fix or related to whats going on?
