The Artwork installer doesn't have any art for any emulator roms. Only Xbox games/Apps etc.
That would be a lot of artwork.

I had swapped cases to rule out a power button issue
I hope you didn't swap with a 1.6 case....

but the narrow tips seem almost unsusable to me.
Tiny pencil tips are near useless on boards this thick. Not even for RAM upgrades.

But why all the damn scorching on the PCB? You're seeing that, right?
Honestly, it doesn't look like scorching, it just looks like they didn't clean up their work and that's just used flux which leaves a orange-brown stain.
Everywhere you look on the internet you see those "How's my work?" posts....but people never bother to take a minute to clean their joints or boards.

Ah. Then I am a tool.
Nawwww, you're a good dude. It's wise to be inquisitive.
Also, unless you have a very high-end soldering station, don't assume the reading on the display is the actual temperature.
You can test with an infrared thermometer. They don't lie.

things look scorched everywhere the iron has been and he is lifting pads and vias.
That's not a tiny via or slim trace....that's a big ol' pad.
It looks like someone got impatient because the iron wasn't dumping enough heat onto the PCB...and the just tugged on the wire.

Is there any iron that measures in farenheit? I honestly don't know. I doubt it.
Most stations I've known have the option to switch between Fahrenheit and Centigrade.
-
I don't know why everyone is saying "too hot"....those joints look ice cold. And a lifted via is probably when the wire was tugged on because the solder hadn't been released yet.
When you say 450 degrees, do you mean Fahrenheit?

the fan now is really loud. Any ideas?
You can modify the bios to set any default fan speed you want. It's probably set at %100 right now.

Is your bios.bin file in the BIOS folder on the root of the drive?
-
Clean your work and retouch the solder connections.

Try UDMA5.

yes red sometimes
Sounds like adding the extra device (DVD) is putting too much strain on a failing power brick.
If you're plugging the power brick into a power bar or surge suppressor, try plugging it straight into the wall outlet.

Do you have another power brick to test with?
Are you getting any error lights on the power brick?
Stock hard drive, or do you have another hard drive to test with?

newer variants you are seeing now on aliexpress with the transistor on them
New AliExpress Aladdins can come with or without the transistor.
It just depends on where the seller gets his supply.

the mobo D0 needs to be grounded.
That's exactly what I've done on every Aladdin install I've ever done....and I've never had a problem.
D0 ---> motherboard ground

"If I power the machine on, the power, eject button and controller port lights come on
If this is happening just by plugging in the AC cord, you definitely have trace corrosion issues.

What tip are you using on your iron?
It appears to not be dumping enough heat into the PCB. Is it a small pencil tip?
-
Always use flux, even with rosin-core solder.
?

Some of those vias look pretty maimed....I suspect a cut trace around one of them.
Reflow you joints, wire up the LPC and let's see another pic.
BTW, you solder joints look cold. What iron and temp are you using?

But if so, why the survey? What would that accomplish?
Market research. Companies pay big money for it....but they'll try and get it for free if they can.
It's why businesses give out those "points/rewards" cards. They track purchases so they can more accurately target their buyer demographic.
If there are some decent rewards (like Air Miles), I might participate. But if it's "Hey, we'd appreciate your valuable feedback!", it's like, no fuck you. Pay me. I'm not doing your market research for you for free.

I would say owning a Dremel or similar tool is a requirement.
