  1. Hi,

Just picked up a Xbox, softmodded it and nulled the HDD etc. I then went to change the drive over to my cloned 1TB drive (which worked when switching it out from the mother Xbox for testing) and when I now boot the new softmodded Xbox with the confirmed working, nulled cloned HDD from the mother, I boot into error code 13.

Cloned 1TB in question works when swapping out with mother Xbox's 1TB drive (which it was cloned from)

Replacing the HDD with the original HDD lets the console boot and work.

What am I doing wrong to get error 13 from the 1TB cloned, nulled, HDD from the other softmodded Xbox that works.

p.s Using Rocky5 and 1TB HDD shows up under chimp loader as slave and have locked the HDD via this with the console (even though both consoles have nulled HDD's)

Pulling my hair out with this one now, any help would be appreciated

(Both consoles are of the same motherboard version and are all but identical)

Since they don't state that it can do sector-by-sector, I assume it does the files in known filesystems as it is to be, IIRC about 30% faster.  I posted the question at there website and am awaiting their response.

The  manual didn't state the method used either.

I also assumed that as they advertising faster cloning it would not be sector by sector.

Any freeware programmes that I can run from Windows computer, assuming the offline cloning of my Dock in incompatible. I know HDD RAW copy has been mentioned a few times.

I have used Acronis before for Windows cloning and am aware of clonezilla however again unsure of the clone method used.

Since your consoles are chipped you should be able to use standard desktop drive cloning software which will do a full bit by bit image of the drive, since the file format can't be natively recognized. In theory, using something such as HDD Raw Copy or using a cloning station should be no issue between drives of the same size.

I've been able to fully set up and build out a drive to my liking on one hardmodded console, then take that drive out and drop it into another hardmodded console with no additional setup. Nothing console specific needs to be tied to the drives, so they should work as long as they're unlocked. If you choose to lock the drive you'll have to lock it onto the individual Xbox the drive will be plopped into.

    Thanks for reply guys.

To be clear I have a locked hdd that I want to clone. All my softmod are nulled eprom. So if I unlock the drive, clone it, I can then have the clone as a backup, unlocked and them if needed relock it with the nulled key (or whatever hdd key) for it to then work on any nulled softmodded console?

I have no chipped consoles at this current moment in time however do have one on the bench that should be ready soon.

    Thanks again :)

  4. Hi,

I have the same situation my end. I have several console that I want to clone a nulled (all my console have nulled HDD's), locked 1Tb HDD from.

I still have the original HDD for this xbox (again nulled)

My question is, if I unlock my 1Tb HDD and clone the files to the other HDD's, can I use my original Xbox hard drive to boot from and relock the HDD's using Rocky5's chimp loader without losing any of the data due to formatting or whatever.

I think that this will work in theory however don''t want to sink hours into doing cloning etc and then lose my game files etc and start again.

    Thanks

  5. I recently did this with the cheapest cheap sata to pata adapter from eBay HERE  and I also powered the 2nd HDD using the paperclip trick with a computer PSU and can confirm that it worked fine for me. Have you nulled the HDD key yet as this is the only think I can see that you may have done different to me. If not deffently null the hdd key using Rocky5 softmod, backup your console and try again.

  6. Hi,

I'm a user in the UK who has a large collection of PAL games. What I would like to know is how to setup my softmod so that I can run NTSC backups in HD without loosing the ability to play my PAL games. If possible it would be good if I can keep the primary region as PAL as these are the copies I have of Splinter Cell etc.

Hoping that there is something easy that I can do to enable this that I have overlooked.

    Thanks

better yet, save your DVD drive laser from additional stress and instead extract the contents of the ISO into a folder and FTP that to the Xbox and run it from the HDD

Ummm silly question maybe however can I do a FTP to the Xbox via connecting the Ethernet to my PC and sending direct down the Ethernet cable rather than going over my local network as doing small files like this is fine but not got the patience for larger transfers at them kinda speeds.

If so and pointers before I try work it out from scratch?

You null the HDD key in the EEPROM settings under the advanced menu in NKPatcher Settings, which is an app that's installed with Rocky's softmod.

Thanks for help and suggestions on this one. I have successfully softmodded both my Xbox's with Rocky'smod as suggested. Now just play around with it to get HDD installed and see what I can get it to do.

Yea just spend a few hours trying to soler easy things and work your way up

I'm trying to get my hands on a non-1.6 board as we speak so to do a TSOP mod and see how that goes. May end up modchipping one of these Crystals someday if that goes well. What would you suggest is the easiest modchip to install to a board that is worth the time?

Think that I may end up getting obsessed with this sooner or later. Or maybe it's already too late :)

    Thanks again

Ohenestly just hard mod so much more helpful if you know how to solder

My solder skills are advantage so if I am able to boot backup discs and launch games from HDD via softmod only them I'm happy. Just need to learn how it is I do this without screwing up my Xbox's

You want to use JCRocky5's Xbox Softmodding Tool. Most stable, up to date softmod. If you softmodded with any other softmod, use Rocky's Quick Upgrade tool to upgrade to his softmod.

Done and updated however got rid of the OG dashboard from the C drive, can I restore this?

Once you are running Rocky's softmod, null your HDD key with the included NKPatcher Settings application. After that's all done, you are ready to upgrade to a bigger HDD and play installed backups.

Any video links or further guidance to this process as don't have enough knowledge to do without cocking it up?

The modern dashboards to consider are XBMC-Emustation and XBMC4Gamers. These are both also made by Rocky and are by far the best dashboards available for the Xbox to date.

Again, unsure how to set these as the default dashboard so any videos or guides?

I always hardmod my Xboxes (via TSOP flashing, though I have also done modchips) and I avoid 1.6 Xboxes because of the lack of a TSOP and their other limitations.

This was the original plan however unable to as have been unlucky to pick up Crystals at a v1.6 board so trying to work the best softmod alternative

  11. Hi,

New to OG Xbox, I have recently picked up 2 Xbox Crystal edition's (one clear and the other Crystal virgin) with board rev 1.6's (confirmed Xcalibur chip on one and the others manufacture date is later so must be also 1.6?)

When I purchased these I was hoping to do a TSOP hack on them to be able to boot backup games from and upgraded HDD (already have all reinvent adapters etc). Now that I know I have rev 1.6 boards I know that the only option is a modchip or softmod. Is there a way to boot backup games from an upgraded HDD only using softmod or does this functionality require a TSOP or Modchip?

If so is someone able to point me in the right direction for a total Xbox softmod noob. I have softmodded the console with UnleashedX via the SC hack with ease however a lot of information is outdated regarding dashboards and software and finding the most recent, supported software is proving to be some what challenging for me.

    Any assistance much appreciated

  12. Hi all,

I have recently got into the modding scene and after some successful Wii mods have decided to turn my hand at the OG Xbox.

I had one of these when I was a kid with a chip on it (don't know to much info as was a kid). I recently picked up 2nd hand Crystal OG Xbox's. One of them already has been softmodded and the other is a virgin, never had the lid popped.

I am aware that the clock capacitor needs removing off of all motherboards rev. 1.1-.1.5 however, I have read places that you can cause the system to boot loop if not done correctly.

My question is, I have a virgin, a softmod and a chip. Which of these is is safe to remove the capacitor from without getting into a bootloop?

I am also finding the most up to date software and guides/information hard to find as there is information floating around from over 10years ago so hoping someone can push me in the right direction with dashboards and other ""basic info" on the latests and most supported software that would be a god send.

    Many thanks
