  1. Well that wasn't too bad. I lost some of the pads on the other side trying to use a wick.

I was able to install the Aladdin and the system booted right up.

Remove the chip clean the board then fit a mod-chip is the easy fix.

Thanks Dave! Thats all I wanted to know before. I can just use a chip and then it would be good.

Desoldering braid would clean this up, then flux and resolder, you havent got anything to lose if you are just going to scrap the board anyway, plus its the only way to get better soldering skills :)

Thank you for the encouragement. I do believe some of them legs are missing. I think the only way to fix that now is to replace the chip entirely. I believe I would have to then connect wires directly to the traces. Maybe one day I'll take on this project. I've always had trouble using braid. Making solder stick to it I have always found it to be a bit of a task. When I replace the chip, I will see if I do it to the other side. Maybe I'll get one from a bad board.

No, not with the soldering skills you currently have.

Get another Xbox.  Set this one aside.

I figured as much, but I thought I would ask. This started with a drop of solder that fell on the pins. I tried and tried, but I could not get it all out then bad to worse. I guess I have spare parts now.

  5. I have a V1.0 System I was getting ready to Tsop flash, but I ran into a problem where I accidentally got solder on the legs of the Tsop. I tried removing it, but things just got screwed up more and more. I was wondering is the board going to be screwed, or is my only option a mod chip?

  6. Thanks Dave. I wonder if actual DVD images would be better instead of backs done the traditional way. I do have quite a bit of roms installed as well. Also, the boot time was more of an issue before switching the IGR so that LT, RT, Back, and Black can take you right to the dash.

Even still I would like to improve boot times. I made a backup image of the drive so I can do another system. I am going to try with the Startech and I will see how much things are improved. I have been reading and many folks swear by it.

Did you mean like Cerbios 2? dogs logo? Or is there a logo with 2 dogs? It may not matter, but I was wondering.

What HDD and sata adaptor are you using and what dash?

I am using the NFHK SATA to IDE, and Emustation.

  8. Thanks! I thought of that, but I was not sure if it would cause any issues. That worked real well. That saved like more then 10 secs to boot. I am trying to get it lower then that. I am down to 41 secs before the dash is loaded. I wonder if there is anything else I can do?

  9. I was able to flash the updated bios with the 256kb UDMA 5 and I am using the Chinese IDE to Sata adapter. That went fine. I ran bios checker to verify the bios. While I did not see the bios because it is unknown, I did see the bios chip which is the Hynix Hy29f080. I think this is a 1mb bios chip. I went with the 256kb bios to be on the safe side because I was not sure. Does it matter that I did not use the 1mb version?

  10. Actually this system just came into my possession recently. I wanted to do a softmod into a tsop, but I think I will need to put a chip in. Folks say you can get the Aladdin for $5, but I can't seem to find where. The chips are still cheap anyway. Wish there was another way to tsop. Thanks for confirming my suspicion.

  11. I have a Xbox 1.0 and the system goes to boot, stays stuck for a few seconds on M$ logo. When it gets to the stock dash, it is very slow to do anything. I am thinking maybe the hard drive is failing because I tried another working dvd drive and it did the same thing. I just wanted to hear from someone what could be going on?

What type of problem are you having with the LEDs?

Which LED and resistor value did you use (part number of the LED)?

Online LED Calculator - Current Limiting Resistor Calculator for LED(s)

What are the specs of the LEDs you installed?

Need to know their forward voltage drop (Vf) and maximum current rating.

Generally, an LEDs Vf value is 2 Vdc and the maximum current rating is 20mA; however, not all LEDs have the same exact specifications.

Vs = Vf + I(led) * Current limiting resitor value

    For example:

    5 Vdc = 2 Vdc + 20 mA (0.02 Amps) * R Ohms

    (5 V - 2 V)/ 0.02 Amps = R

    R = 150 Ohms

However, using a slightly larger resistor value is better to keep the current flowing through the LED below its maximum rating.

NOTE: If you install the LEDs the wrong way around, they will not light up.

I have these SMD 0603 resistors and LEDs. I had no idea how tiny they are
I almost lost 2 of them. If I sneeze, they will be lost for sure.

Like this, You remove the metal casing solder the completed PCB to the red/black with the LEDs facing away from the wiring.

After you have tested it you can then refit the metal shield.

THANK YOU!!! I could not find this info anywhere. Someone sent them to me and was like oh cool, I wish I knew exactly how to use them.

Is this what you are looking for.

    led-board.jpg

You select the value of the resistor depending on how bright you what them, If the led's don't light up you have them backwards.

Thank you!!! I would like to see how they are mounted as well. That would also be very helpful.

Interesting. The capacitor installation looks fine.

I'd start with gently applying pressure around the video connector left/right and up and down and see if you see any changes on screen. Then move the video connector around. Have a look inside the video port and the cable end (what goes into the Xbox) for anything unusual like a bent pin or dirt/dust. The Microsoft cables fray quite easily also.

I've tried the same cable on another Xbox and it works. I also have the same results with another TV. Moving that does nothing. Any other ideas?
