I have 2 sada drive I want to use for HDD upgrades for my og Xboxes. Do the hdds need to be wiped before using? If so any suggestions on a wiping/cleaning program for the hdds? Any suggestions or comments welcomed. Thanks

First, I would highly recommend to do a FULL scan for bad sectors.

https://hddscan.com/

And for preparing HDD you can use fatxplorer and use highly recommend to use full format to format drive to fatx file system, at the same time you can inject C and E partition files, this option is included in fatxplorer and files can be obtained here:

NEVER DO LOW LEVEL FORMAT! You have softmod or hardmod system?

Why not?

because it will wipe magnetic structure of the hdd, you don't want to mess with manufacturers stuff :D

i think by doing it you will brick the hdd

i think people mistaken low level format with "full format": that writes 0 or 1 to all sectors.

I believe you are wrong here.  Low-level format only removes content previously stored on it, not the manufacturer's magnetic structure of the hard drive.

I use HDDGuru.com's HDD LLF Low-level Format Tool to wipe a hard drive clean before using it in the Xbox.  It only gets rid of the previous operating system filesystems (e.g., NTFS, FAT32) and partitioning info, Master Boot Record.  Things not used by an Xbox.

Edit: Even though it's called Low-Level Format, it's not so low that it wipes out the manufacturer's magnetic structure on the hard drive.
