clueless
I just resurrected a "for parts" xbox from ebay, and after replacing cpu caps, tsop flash etc, I was able to get it working. The issue I am having though is that the only cable that will work on it is my component cable. No other cable will work. I have tried both a third party AV cable and an original one, both do the same thing. I also have a xhox to hdmi dongle which will also not display any output on this xbox. Has anyone got any idea what is going on here?

Xbox port one end, a hdmi the other

It isnt that old, so it should, but it was a kerbside pickup, so who knows. I probably should try a different tv... I figured that if the component was working, then the av should... Some TV sets share the green RCA Y component video input jack for composite video in as well. You connect the standard definition (480i) cable's yellow RCA jack to it. Many sets autodetect the input signal type but some require the user to select the video signal type connected to the video input. Which brand/model is the TV set? clueless
Ok, Mystery solved. This kerbside pickup TV is a POS. It would appear that only the component input works. I took the xbox to another tv, and using a third party Svideo / composite cable I was able to get a signal on both svideo and av. I can still use this tv, but it has suddenly become less useful
