Xbox v1.0

The stock BIOS requires the hard drive to be locked using the seldom used ATA security feature.  A softmodded console boots the stock BIOS; thus, requires the hard drive to be locked.

Each Xbox's hard drive is locked with a unique password computed with a key stored in the configuraton EEPROM on the motherboard.  If the hard drive gets reset or loses power, it relocks.  Requiring it to again be unlocked by the console it came out of.

You can NULL or set to all 1's the HDDKey on all Xboxes you wish to swap the hard drive between. Actually the HDDKey can be any value as long as it is the same on all Xboxes you want to swap the drives between.  However, some game saves are signed using the HDDKey; therefore, if you have old saves created before you change the HDDKey, they will no longer work.  NOTE: Not all games sign their saves.
