New gaming sucks for me, wanted to rediscover my love for gaming

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this forum and honestly to any forum of this type. I never really got into modding but have had the urge to do so now. Modern games dont do it for me. Either the constant attempts to take all your money, the games feeling repetitive, or beloved franchises being completely disrespected. I spent so much time complaining about games that i decided that i wanted to go back to a time when i actually enjoyed games. The orginal Xbox had every genre i could imagine and had many entries within the same franchise come out on it unlike what we see now where we are lucky to get one game in a franchise in a generation.

Even though i played a ton of the original xbox there was so much i missed out on and i am looking forward to experiencing those things as if they were new.

I am just glad i started my collection of games a really really long time ago and never got rid of them.

Any good tips on where to pick up games where everything including the manual are intact but are not going to spend a fortune? Any recommendations on where is the best place to download games?

Basically in the same boat. New games & gaming habits in general have ALL the wrong priorities, gave me the inspiration to jump back to the gen where my gaming life started & see just exactly what we used to have.

Sure, the previous gens had a fair share of stinkers, but as soon as the online craze kicked off in the middle of 7th gen, & things started going all digital?

Boom! MTX, Daily & Weekly "incentives" to keep you playing, disgusting overemphasis on online play, miles wide "content" with inch deep depth. Not every game has fallen down this abyss, but over the last decade, damn near 99% of the "AAA" publishers have reduced their work to money sponges that are frequently half cooked. Even Nintendo's gone down that route for some of their titles, it's that bad...

I agree the online craze kind of started us down this path. I know the pitch back then was being able to play around the world would lead us to connect to everyone. Honestly i think it has done the opposite effect. I missed the days of the lan party of bringing your xbox and tv to someones house to have either an all night or all weekend gaming fest where you hung out with your friends. It was just because you liked to play the game and not trying to fill out some daily or weekly challenge. At my last job i worked with a group of guys who used to do that as well and we all reminised about what we used to do when we were younger. Rather than just talk about it me and another guy decided we were going to do something and we organized a lan party. 6 orignal xboxs and 12 people later we played star wars battle front 2, halo 2, crimson skies, mech assault 2. The amount of trash talking, funny moments, and victories was the most fun i have had in a long time.

If you have a group of friends you can convince to do that, do it. The older people get, the less likely they are to do it.
