shefben
I am trying to salvage a busted white duo x2 mod chip for parts for a project im working on. I know the larger square 'duo' chip is a xilinx xc9572xl. but Im not sure what the larger chip is (I believe it is nand?) I am more interested in the square 8 pin chip that has the ic part and serial number sanded off. if anyone knows what the 8pin chip is, please let me know. edit: the 'amd' chip is most likely: 16MBIT PARALLEL FLASH MEMORY 48TSOP / AM29LV160MT-100EI (legacy) or S29AL016J70TFI010 (taken from open xenium) Edited April 22, 2022 by shefben
KaosEngineer
The flash memory chip on it is going to be one of these devices (evox.ini entries for Duo X2): 0x01d5,"AMD - Am29F080B",0x100000 0x04d5,"FUJITSU - MBM29F080A",0x100000 0xadd5," Hynix - HY29F080",0x100000 As to the 8-pin surface mount chip, I'm not sure what it is? Looking to see if there were any pre-release photos ever posted on xbox-scene.com where the labeling was not sanded off. I've not found anything like it. Yet, anyway. Have you removed the chips from the printed circuit board? Can you post some clear hi-res photos of both the top and bottom sides of it? Edit: I believe the only difference between the blue and white PCB versions of the DuoX 2 modchips were the BIOSes pre-flashed to the chip. Blue: bank 0 - Evox M8 v1.0-1.4 version, bank 1 - Evox M8 v1.0-1.6 version White: bank 0 - Cromwell v2.32, bank 1 - FlashBIOS 3.0.3-1
KaosEngineer
Duo X2 White (aka Cromwell/FlashBIOS edition) information from the developer's (Team Omega's) Wayback Machine archived website, www.duomodchip.com, can be seen at the following URL: http://web.archive.org/web/20041204132431fw_/http://www.duomodchip.com/english/install.htm
KaosEngineer
I found pictures of the DuoX 2 GS modchip that doesn't have that 8-pin chip present. From the description of the DuoX 2 modchip's operation, I think the purpose of that 8-pin surface mount chip is to flash the LED on / off when the modchip is enabled. However, I can't tell if the current-limiting resistor connects to that chip or elsewhere on the modchip.
