Nf Given XD
Has anyone tested different cat cables ie cat4 vs say cat8? If so is there issues with using one vs the other?
KaosEngineer
Maximum allowed transfer rate (bandwidth) and price. The higher the CATn number. The higher both are. For the original Xbox, use at least CAT5 rated cables to support its 10/100 BaseT Ethernet port. I found a web site that has a description of the various types, well Cat4 - Cat 7 anyway: What is a Category 4 Cable (Cat 4 Cable)? - Definition from Techopedia Links to Cat 5, 6 and 7 are after the Cat 4 article under the Related Terms section.
tiertop
Cat 5 or 5e are all you need. Edited March 20, 2022 by tiertop
MadMartigan
Running speed tests, I definitely get better speeds using cat7 vs cat5. From previous replies it seems cat5 might be the max for the OG Xbox.
tiertop
Xbox is just 10/100 which is definitely Cat 5 territory. Edited March 21, 2022 by tiertop
UserFriendly
Can you even still buy Cat4 cable?
