TheXboxMessiah
Hey y’all, so I want to convert a 1.6 retail og Xbox to a debug kit. I want to do this because I want to dip my feet into software development for the Xbox but how do I get this going?
KaosEngineer
I suggest purchasing a v1.0-1.4 Xbox instead of trying to use your v1.6 Xbox as a debug kit.
TheXboxMessiah
Update: so I just got the right debug files for my 1.6 console (thank god!) but anyways When I launch the debug launch app it gives me a error 13 code. Idk what to do for this error so can you help me please!
Bowlsnapper
Hmmm. Debug consoles have 128mb of ram and you can't upgrade the 1.6's memory. Not sure how vital it is to debugging, but i'm sure there's a reason they made room for the overhead.
big F
Guessing recent news has changed this to a can do.
Bowlsnapper
Iˋm honestly surprised it took so long to discover that this was possible.

I am surprised nobody saw it when the chip companies were desperately trying to work out where the TSOP points were on the 1.6 when it came out.
TheXboxMessiah
How in the hell can you convert a 1.6 Xbox into a debug kit? Is there any news on this?

Step 1 would be 128MB ram upgrade I suppose. I assume the rest of the steps are the same as 1.0-1.5. I'm looking into perhaps doing a cpu upgrade on a 1.6 - Confirming cpu core voltage before proceeding.

I noticed on 1.6s the video is cleaner / cripser with hdmi compared to any other version motherboard, you can notice it on boot up flubber animation. Perhaps the Xcalibur video encoder. This + 128MB makes them the best versions now I would say. Maybe 1.6s can be CPU upgraded?
big F
That would make sense since it’s the last revision. MS have shown in the 360 and One that they learn in each revision, making the last the best, until the jump ship for the next generation. My 1.6’s seem to run slightly cooler and HDMI modding one one I did seemed clearer. Deffo going to 128 one of mine. Hope someone can shed light on the cpu mod area.

My 1.6 is quite a bit fuzzier over composite than my 1.3 but it may be nothing to do with the encoder.
Donnie-Burger
Ebay hdmi - Tried 2 with same markings from two sellers. One was slightly better than other one but same result. Cleaner image on 1.6s Same on: XBOX2HDMI

I just used several of the Wii2HDMI dongles bought one from eBay the rest from several sellers in china. Its all about the wiring short good quality wire and soldering works best.
