HaloDo
Hello All, I have an original xbox rev 1.3 and already installed an Executer 2.6CE modchip. I'm ready to order an upgraded 2TB or 3TB hard drive. I have been out of the scene for a long time and sure could use recommendations... Is this Seagate Barracuda the best choice? Or recommend something else that will be easiest? https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-BarraCuda-Internal-Drive-3-5-Inch/dp/B07H2RR55Q/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=st2000dm008&qid=1626155702&sr=8-3 Is there a better IDA to SATA interface than this one? https://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-Drive-Optical-Adapter-Converter/dp/B00EOJNGC2/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=IDE+to+SATA&qid=1626155999&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUExMDIwM1JXUlg1VFg2JmVuY3J5cHRlZElkPUEwMDMwMzQ5MkFHQjZHTUxTRjQ0QSZlbmNyeXB0ZWRBZElkPUEwODk1Mjg4WVlMSk41WFlLTTk4JndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ== And this 80-pin cable ok? Any better one? https://www.amazon.com/s?k=40-Pin+80-Wire&i=electronics&ref=nb_sb_noss_2 Thank you! Robert
SS_Dave
For the IDE cable 18 is the same as the original but as the DVD connector is in a different location it makes it real hard it get it back together I would go with this one. this is the one I would go for https://www.amazon.com/Davitu-Drive-3-Connector-Ribbon-Yellow/dp/B07M5R6FHR/ref=sr_1_69?dchild=1&keywords=40-Pin+80-Wire&qid=1626157308&s=electronics&sr=1-69. Chimeric Systems sometime have a 80 way IDE that is made as a exact fit for the Xbox at $9 but he is out of stock, He also has a shit hot HDMI adaptor but you need to join the list that is currently 1147 in the waiting. The StarTech brand of IDE2sata is the better one to use as it just works 100% of the time. As for the HDD that one should be fine, Although on the advert it states new and used from $59 so which is it? The 3tb is $99 New, From a 3tb you get 2.2tb of useable space and on a 2tb you have 1.8tb usable space. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

KaosEngineer
No, the Seagate hard drive is an SMR drive (shingled magnetic recording), not a CMR (conventional magnetic recording) hard drive. Purchase a hard drive that is CMR. Edit: Removed the previous statement about hard drive cache sizes. I see that the newer Barracuda Pro CMR hard drives have even larger caches - 256MBs. The older models of the 2TB Barracuda hard drive before Seagate changed them to SMR only had 64MBs of cache compared to the newer SMR versions that expanded it to 256MBs. The SMR drives were also less expensive than the previous CMR 2TB Barracuda drives.
KaosEngineer
For Seagate's list of SMR and CMR hard drive models, look here: https://www.seagate.com/internal-hard-drives/cmr-smr-list/
