Millay
How would you go about replacing a hdd in a dead xbox? mod chips? I've been looking for a tutorial but I can't find anything. Also, everything on the xbox seems to work, so but the hdd is just freaking out with sound, so I assume its the hdd 1.0 btw.
Traace
I would solder a modchip to bypass the need of a locked drive. Then creating a xbox hdd via xboxhdm.

So just soldering a mod chip will allow me to switch out the hard drive?

Dave Corrigan
Yes, but unless you are proficient in soldering electronic components, I would practice on something first..

skyking
The hard drive just died on mine when I was testing a game that came with it. Now I can't boot at all to try modding this console.
KaosEngineer
EEPROM reader to obtain the data needed to lock a new HDD set up with XboxHDM. PC with IDE if you use XboxHDM v1.9 or 2.2a or USB-to-HDD interface adapter with XboxHDM23USB Beta 2. Or, install a modchip, Aladdin XT plus 2 (aka XT 4032, etc) boot Hexen 2017 or 2018 to format the new HDD and install the dashboard to it.
