R88kie
Hi, I recently diug out my old Xbox from the loft and after replacing the blown capictors managed to nurse it back to life. It has a solderless chip installed (not sure which one) on a 1.4 board. My intention was then to clean it up and look to install some games and arcade emulators. Anyway, I somehow deleted the contents of the f: drive and need advice on how to restore. Can I just create a new dvd installation disc and create a fresh hdd disc? Ultimately I might like to replace the 80Gb IDE drive with a larger capacity SATA one so don't mind losing the current hdd contents.
SS_Dave
Are you sure it is booting with the chip? If you post a pic then I am sure someone will be able to let you know what chip you have. Here is a link to the OGXbox installer 2021 disk you can use this to rebuild the HDD if need be. https://mega.nz/folder/xUl13A4B#d_RMbhNrNA81QhgwoaUv4g/file/EEMWkbwL When you go to replace the HDD with a bigger drive you will need to reflash the modchip with a new bios to work with a hard drive bigger than 137gb. R88kie
Thanks SS_Dave, I'll give it a go. After closer examination the chip is an xbit v1.5. It did boot up and I was just browsing around, but whilst trying to delete what looked like some old video dvd, I wiped the f: drive. SS_Dave
You can reformat partition 6 ( F drive) using XB Partitioner that it on the install DVD and that can be used as live app from the disk. The xbit v1.5 mod chip can be re-flashed but you will need a old PC from Windows XP age to do that as the newer PC's will not connect to the chip The other option is to re-flash the onboard bios.
