dantethascrub
Hi! I was in my early twenties when the Xbox launched, and have always been a keen gamer. I always used to watch The Big Breakfast before work and remember 'Ben the Boffin' doing a bit of a special on the new system. A friend picked one up on pre-order, and after a weekend playing Halo I had decided to pick one up too. A great system and the spiritual successor to my beloved Dreamcast. Back then each new console seemed like a huge leap in graphics and they were exciting times in gaming. Fast-forwarding through the GameCube and Xbox 360, I got out of console gaming and veered off into building my PCs and doing my gaming there. Then along came kids, and not so much time for gaming. MAME and quick hits of nostalgia got me through despite my Steam library growing with each sale... Like a lot of people, coronavirus, lockdown and working from home has given me a lot more time holed up in my 'offce'. I reduced my Dreamcast parts hoard building a few more complete systems, and amused myself modding/modernising my GameCube with the GCloader. Always in the back of my mind was the heavy box with my old Xbox lurking inside, and in the last couple of years I'd picked up some spares and new parts with the thought of modding it as I move further towards getting rid of optical media. Thought it was about time to commit fully, so, with many questions that need answering, I decided to sign up here and jump in to it! Coming from the very simple Dreamcast and GameCube modding background, Xbox seems to be way more complex, so I will try my best to 'use the search function' and hope not to wear your collective patience too thin asking the same old questions. I have quite a specific aim for my Xbox so I hope it will not end up being too much of a black hole...
ShinGoutetsu
Welcome. I'm a huge Dreamcast fan myself and have one with an ODE and a few other mods. Plenty of information on the OG xbox here and lots of very knowledgeable people about to answer any questions you might have that the search function doesn't reveal. hastings298
I was into Xbox first but recently got into Dreamcast with the GDEMU and the 3D printed tray - wonderful arcade-style games, quick and fun. So sick of trying to play a game and there being a 80gb downloading waiting for me. Literally 0 patience for this stuff any more. I'm not booking time ahead in my diary to play a game, it's when you feel like it or not at all right? Welcome anyway, if you like modding you'll like the xbox. dantethascrub
Thanks for the welcomes, I appreciate it! And nice to see there are some fellow DC fans here too. It really is a great system and with the ODEs it’s brought a lot of new people to the scene to enjoy the amazing titles that a lot of people overlooked when it was the current gen. Whilst a few years back I loved diving into a huge expansive game (the Fallout and GTA series being particular favourites), lack of consistent free time means that a lot of today’s fare is just ‘too much’ game and commitment for me, I can’t sink multiple hundreds of hours in to a single game any more. So the OG Xbox era and before is really my sweet spot right now. Not to mention what has come since requires all those patches and updates - I don’t know how we’ll be revisiting 360 etc in the future... but that’s another topic entirely. For now, I have my pile of bits to mod my Xbox, which is currently in pieces for a good clean while I look at the first step of preventative maintenance - any recapping and addressing my power supply fears (I have the 1.0 with a Delta unit, and the Microsoft-issued circuit breaker power lead). But there is a lot to learn with this system it seems, especially if you are coming in fresh and want to one-hit the upgrades!!

RetroEmulationNation
Welcome! I just got my Dreamcast last month, and I am slowly collecting parts for an ultimate beast build. Already switched to a RetroDC PSU, a clone GDEmu 5.15b is installed, and the system clock battery has been replaced. Just waiting for my DCDigital and Noctua fan kits to arrive.
