Controller only works when OpenXenium disconnected

Recommended Posts

I did search first before posting and couldn't find any threads specifically talking about this.  I'm sure I'm missing something obvious.  I have tested with an original XBOX S Type controller and a 3rd party controller.  I have also tested with a USB keyboard and an adapter.  None of which work when I enter XeniumOS.  However, the controllers work when modchip is disconnected.

This is a 1.4 revision XBOX.  I assume it must be one of my solder joints to the modchip.  I have already reflowed these joints multiple times to fix another issue.  Unfortunately, I closed the machine up before I realized the problem.  Anyone know which pins I should focus on?  Is there a way to test continuity between LPC header pins and the motherboard?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

If the Open Xenium menu is available then I would say you soldering is all good.

Are you sure it is genuine controller?

The only time I have heard of issues is with non original controllers on some software, A DVD remote will sort of work on a Xenium menu so you could test that and if that's working then the controllers are to blame.

I also tried with 3 usb keyboards.  Should that work?

Not here they don't and until the dash is loaded there will not be any driver for a keyboard.

I tested a HP brand USB keyboard and a Logitech wireless USB keyboard and both don't do anything on the Xenium menu.

Programs like Chimp and other linux programs will not work with non genuine controllers even Xblast will only work with a original controller.

If you have a DVD kit (DVD remote and dongle) it will sort of work with the Xenium menus and you might be able to select a BIOS to load.

I just found  powerwave brand ccontroller and it's a no go.

That has the same part number as mine, So I don't understand why it's not working.

I assume you have tried different game ports as well.

Are you powering on the Xbox with the eject button?

Nope.  Powering on with power button.

So upon further testing, I once again removed the modchip and tested with stock controller and it doesn't work now!  However, the 3rd party controller works without modchip.  This stock controller must have just failed.  I bought it second-hand on ebay so who knows.  I have another one on the way that has been tested so maybe that will solve the problem.

Thanks for your help!

I would be keen to see what happens with the replacement controller

When you power on with the Eject it should bring up the Xenium menu. What BIOS is it booting to when you use the power button?

I also tested a Open Xenium as well as a original Xenium and I got the same results as before.

Hi, I'm having a really strange issue with some OpenXenium I've built that is driving me crazy. Basically, after flashing XeniumOS with Xenium Tool and hotswap method, on the first boot the modchip works fine: XeniumOS is loaded, I can flash other bios (and I can boot them!), so everything works as intended. However, if I reboot the Xbox the chip doesn't work anymore and the console FRAG. If I reflash XeniumOS it works again at first boot, but - as before - when rebooting xbox everything I get is a FRAG.
I tried turning on with eject button or recovery switch, but nothing change. I tried different dump of XeniumOS and used also the official release of 2.3.1 XeniumOS. It simply acts as a modchip without any bios. It's really something strange because this is happening with all of the five chips I've assembled, with exactly the same behaviour. Thinking of a bad batch of Xilinx or flash I bought another set, but even with them I've the same issue. I really can't understand what's going on. It's like the flash get corrupted after every first boot of XeniumOS.

The Xbox boots without any issues with Aladdin Xblast (which I use to do the hotswap method), so I don't think it's something related to the console. I've upgraded RAM to 128MB, but I don't think it's a problem for openxenium. I program the CPLD with a DIY Xilinx Parallel programmer and Impact (using .jed or .svf) without any error and CPLD works fine, it's recognised by xenium tools, I can change the colour of the LED etc.
Any suggestions? I've searched on the internet, but could not find anything useful. Thanks

      Hi guys,
I can confirm that this device works if you want to make a one to one clone of your XBOX Sata HDD:
ORICO 6629US3-C-V1-US-BK USB3.0 to SATA Dual Bay External Hard Drive Docking Station

I was able to successfully clone my my 1TB WD HDD for backup purposes:

Cloned that with the same exact model.  The actual amount of storage used was a little over 700 GB and took under 4 hours. Plugged the cloned HDD in and worked like a charm no issues.

Great thing about it is the offline cloning function...so no need to connect it to your PC.
