bigbottombill
Hi all, has anyone managed to come up with some good youtube-dl settings for downloading video that play nicely on the xbox? I've done some googling and really need to dig a bit deeper but thought I'd check here first. I'm imagining the downloaded media will need to be run though ffmpeg with some specific switches to get a container and bitrate the xbox can handle. Thanks. KaosEngineer
Don't download anything over 720p. But, I have not used youtube-dl to know the best settings.
bigbottombill
Thanks for the response I'll do a bit of playing around and report back if I get something that works well. I have a raspberry pi running kodi that has no problems running whatever I throw at it but I still use my xbox for playing a load of stuff so would be cool to get it working well. bigbottombill
Ok turned out to be really easy after coming across this https://www.xbmc4xbox.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2855 Second post down suggests 380p will play fine and '...so long as they are not h264 and HD' as KaosEngineer suggested. The format code closest to this in youtube-dl is '18' which is 270p/360p in mp4 format (see half way down https://asankad.org/2013/09/04/download-videos-from-just-one-command-in-linux-terminal/) So running youtube-dl -f 18 <url to video> will do the trick. Hope this is useful for someone else!
