My brother gave me his old xbox v1.4 halo edition (w/ the green case) that he tsop flashed many years ago....he didn't have a hard drive in it but I have an unmodded xbox here w/ a hard drive.  thought I'd put the hdd from the unmodded stock xbox in the the tsop flashed box and see if it'd boot....it comes up w/ error 16..so I burned a copy of hexen 2020 to see if I could get that to load.....it's stuck on the splash screen (the xbox logo; x on top of the word xbox) w/ the text linux under it and the purple evo x logo in the top left corner; i've attached a picture of it)....is this 'cause the hard drive is locked?  is there a way around this, i'd like to be able to use the xbox.

Yes the hard drive from the unmoded Xbox will be locked are you sure it was error 16

Error 16 

means your xbox cannot find the menu setting with which you can set the clock of the hdd. 
This happens to a lot of people that erase their hdd (original/upgraded) or MS dashboard files and after that they don't immediately install the hdd but leave the xbox without power longer than 5 hours.
Solution: You may have corrupted dashboard files on your xbox hdd. Use the 'HQ Auto Installer Deluxe' to reinstall your dashboard.

That ok 

Error 13 is to do with the hdd lock as the software is expecting the hdd to be locked.

 

Also hexen can take about a minute to load a well.

hexen never loads...it just stays at the evox xbox linux screen....auto installer deluxe does the same thing...it just stays at the evox microsoft screen and never loads...is there anyway to get either of these util discs to load w/ a locked hdd from another xbox in this xbox?   thanks again for your help.

No, as all the install disks need to use the hard drive as a cache drive and if the drive is locked that is not going to happen.

And you can only unlock it with the HDD key from the original Xbox it came from or in the Xbox is originally in.

Wait a minute or two for Hexen to finish booting.  It takes some time before the menu will appear.  

Is the eject ring solid RED?
