Hello everyone from a lockdown England 🐵

I have just bought an OSSC and have a component cable for my x3 modded XBOX.

Its a UK XBOX and I have set the BIOS to NTSC to allow for 480p RGB output.

Does anyone have any experience or recommended OSSC settings for my UHD TV?

Could you share your profile json?

Thanks in advance

Don't use an OSSC for Xbox. It's a line doubler.
You should just get an xbox to hdmi adapter or even a cheap component scaler off of amazon.

Thanks I'll look into that. The OSSC makes my Mega Drive look amazing, I just presumed the same could be achieved on the XBOX.

Yeah it will make all of your consoles that output 240p look amazing. The Xbox can output 720p or 1080i. So you don't need a line doubler. You just need something to convert the component signal to hdmi if your tv doesn't have component inputs.

Yes I did have my component cable attached to my TV in one of those Samsung 2.5 inch jack plugs that split into the component and audio.

I'm still going to have a go with the OSSC as the picture quality was a bit soft. You can set passthru and add scanlines to give a more nostalgic look and tweak other things with a 480p signal. I am right in that its best to set the BIOS to NTSC as PAL only outputs 480i ?

I believe the TV should also be set to "gaming mode" to avoid the TV attempting to tidy up the image an avoid lag.

Thanks for your help

It's best to set it to NTSC and 720p. Bypass the OSSC and it won't be soft.

Thanks, I set 480p passthru and on the dashboard set to 1080i to passthru too. I'm pleased that even on my 75 inch TV its quite a good image with rich colours. I'm glad I bought this (monster?) component cable from a seller in the US many years ago!

I went the OSSC approach and it works perfectly fine. There's only a few settings that can/need to be changed on the OSSC but I can't remember them off the top of my head, I'll check later today.

My reason for going this route was that I already had an OSSC and it was easy enough to get my hands on a YPbPr component video SCART cable from Retro Gaming Cables, so that's what I did. I tried one of those cheap component cables hooked straight to my TV and the quality was so, so bad... doesn't even come close to comparing to the high quality RGC cable.

Soon I'll be installing the 🍍 XboxHDMI 🍍, though 😍.

Yes I like the idea of the HDMI mod!  I have found that XBMC set to 1080i passthrough looks the best... but just as a test I plugged the component cable into the Samsung jack plugs converter that has the RCA female connector as there is no connectors on these new Samsung TVs. I have to admit even though the OSSC is using passthrough the picture quality was so much better....not sure if its the OSSC or the Samsung convertor that came with the TV.

I would be interested how much better the HDMI looks, but I think its very expensive to ship to me in the UK?

Cheers

The shipping for the XboxHDMI from MakeMHz set me back less than USD$15 (to Finland), the actual unit is $80. Not a bad price IMO. Although given the potential customs fee I'm guessing it could set you up for a total of ~$115 (based on UK 20% VAT)?

There's more info about the mod on the product page: https://makemhz.com/products/xboxhdmi and there are a lot of screenshots on the Discord if you want to get a feel of how it looks.

      Hello everyone!
Something very strange is happening with my softmodded xbox and I really can’t figure what’s wrong.
I recently got a used xbox in very good condition, cleaned thoroughly, clock capacitor removed, top notch condition overall.
So, I installed a new 1TB WD hard drive (WD10EZEX) and everything went great.
In the Hexen options I selected to make a big partition so I can put the games in there.
So, long story short, I transferred a whole lot of games with FTP using a crossover cable, directly from my laptop to my xbox, since the Ethernet method gave me low transfer speeds.
Everything was going great and at last I had a big library to choose and enjoy, even downloaded a big coinops pack! So, as you can tell I spent countless hours just transferring every day.
I played daily for 1-2 weeks with no problems at all.
Then one day, all of a sudden I saw that coinops was missing and some of the games also.
To my surprise, they were magically deleted, and it messed up the games folders, for example there was just an empty folder with the game name and nothing in it.
I couldn’t find any info online, so I decided to start transferring again and see if it will do this again.
And at that point I started getting errors in Filezilla, half of the files were transferring and the others failed. The ones that fail are always the same files, everytime in every game.
I even tried a different cable, but the result was the same.
Another weird thing is that the later partitions (X,Y,Z) sometimes have weird files in them and other times are empty, for example at one point there was a 500MB file called gta3image.iso or something like that, and at other times, just random assorted files that it creates and deletes by itself. I never mess with those partitions, it does this by itself. The only partition I access is F which is the main ~900GB partition with my “Games” folder.
So now, I’m with a half-broken xbox and can’t really tell what’s wrong.
Any advice or info what may be wrong (maybe something similar has happened to someone here), will be greatly appreciated!
I’m attaching a Filezilla report with a game I just tried transferring (25 to Life is the game), maybe someone could figure something from the report:

      Please help me out fellas!
      Thanks!

Hey there everyone, just purchased an unmodded Xbox and I'm having issues. I tested with multiple games and for some reason, the console cannot read discs. It can boot to the menu and works perfectly fine in that regard, but when I put a disc in the green lift around the eject key will blink for a few times and then... Nothing. I don't get a read error or damaged disc message, it simply does nothing. No error code, everything else seems to work perfectly fine, but it simply won't read discs. It is a samsung disc drive and I opened it and did a bit of cleaning, checked the wires for seemingly any damage or missing pins which there weren't any and nothing has changed. The disc drive is clean, the connections are fine, and the discs are all basically flawless. Any ideas or advice?

      Hi All,
Thought I'd post a quick hello as I work my way through the huge overload of information on the internet with regards to modding. I believe I have a v1.4 or v1.5 as I have a Focus video chip. The internal condition is remarkable and shows how well I looked after it when younger - but now I want to be able to show my kids some of the games I played on the Xbox and before using an emulator so I'll be reading through guides etc on here
