I have done several sodtmods using the Rocky5 Method and this one baffles me. Everything installed perfect but backing up the EEPROM could not advance to the next screen. The key was nulled out, ETC.  I reran the back up program same thing stuck on the EEPROM back up screen. The board is 1.0 Rev k. Any clues on how to fix this?

This is why I hate forums. Ask a simple question and get answers like this. Doesn't really help. I like to know if it's a bug or some other problem. To be honest I have no idea what the difference between softmodding or using a modchip. They do the same thing. Play your iso's, emulators, etc.

In case both would be the same, you wouldn't have the problem you have. The one thing is just software (Using a Bug/glitch ect).  A chip or a TSOP flash replaces the hole bios on hardware lvl. I would get a chip modchip (Aladdin, LPC2 Mod) like Dave wrote already.

Or in case your're able to finish the softmod, which you need for a TSOP (@Dave), perform a TSOP flash strait after the softmod. But the chip is the way better option.

What about using another tool to back up the eeprom?

Simple enough: just install an EvoX dash as an app or alternatively use ConfigMagic Final v1.6.1 Rocky5's GUI update.

If either of those don't work I'm not sure what the problem could even be.

You sound as if you know what you're doing and this has not happened before with a Rocky5's XBSMT install that you've done.

However the eeprom backup can sometimes be confusing as if the tool you use, even EvoX with default evox.ini, doesn't offer the option it might not save the eeprom where you expect.

The default location if you use EvoX and some other installers which just use an EvoX dash and unmodified evox.ini for eeprom backup is actually the softmod's UDATA folder > backup. If you do not know that the only indication that the backup has actually been made is that the E:\drive volume goes down.

You asked how to fix it and that's how I would fix it!

If the Xbox is hard modded (TSOP flashed, Modchiped) you have no need for the eeprom or to NULL the HDD key and the drive is best left unlocked as that will allow you to easily connect to a PC to transfer the games and apps over using FATXplorer.

You can easily fill a 2tb HDD in 24 hours try that with FTP.

If the Xbox fails for some reason you can fit the HDD in any other hard modded Xbox without the need for stuffing around with eeprom files to unlock and relock to the new Xbox.

And I have never done a softmod and any I get with a softmod that's the 1st thing that gets removed after a hardmod.

Cheers

SS Dave

Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
