dirtykash
I have a board that won’t power, had 3 caps gone below the cpu which I have changed for new and a slight trace corroded which I have jumped and still no power at all. the PSU is good I’ve tried another and swapped power/eject buttons, so where do I look next? https://imgshare.io/image/NXxtmZhttps://imgshare.io/image/NXxonc Edited September 5, 2020 by dirtykash

dirtykash
All other traces have continuity and visibly look fine

dirtykash
Fan doesn’t turn at all, seems totally dead. should I try changing some of the bigger caps on the board? one thing I did notice is that the 3 copper coiled components on the front of the board looked like they had some residue on the board beneath them, only visible when turning towards the light though... SS_Dave
On the 20 pin power connector the white and gray wires should have around 3.3 volt. dirtykash
20 pin plug has a white wire but no grey, and is reading 2.9volts is that correct? is there anywhere else on the board I should be checking with the multimeter? KaosEngineer
I deleted the info I'd posted here since it was for the wrong motherboard version.

Report your readings. Except the pic he posted is not a 1.6 looks to me like a 1.4 Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing. Oops, for some reason I thought they were talking about a 1.6 motherboard. I'll post the correct PSU connector voltage levels for a v1.4 motherboard. KaosEngineer
The wire that's at the location of the gray wire here whatever color it is should be at 3.3Vdc. One brand of Xbox PSU used different colors; however, the voltage level locations are the same on the connector no matter the wire color used to connect them there. if you read 2.9Vdc at that location, is a bit too low. The voltage should be within +/- 5% (3.14 to 3.47 Vdc).
dirtykash
The power supply is good, I swapped the board into another working console case so I could check the power buttons etc at the same time and it made no difference. ill check the readings but I think it must be something else on the board besides the 3 caps I changed which were all bulging. KaosEngineer
Must be a damaged or broken power button signal wire coming from the front panel to the motherboard or trace on the motherboard going to the PIC processor (System Management Controller). dirtykash
Checked all the traces for the power eject all seem fine, Im going to give the board another clean with alcohol and see if that makes a difference as I’m running out of options here... SS_Dave
I don't think cleaning it is going to help. Can you test the wire in the power plug and you should have 1 top left (Gray wire or a Blue wire) that is about 3.3 volt and is 6 down on the right row(Purple wire or a Gray wire) that is 3.3 volt This is looking down on the plug with the front panel towards you and the heatsinks away from you. dirtykash
Ok, blue - 1.6volts white - 3.2volts where the grey wire is 6 down I have a brown wire and get 0 reading from it
SS_Dave
I am going to say a power supply failure. When you tested the board in a different Xbox are you sure it was the same model as a version 1.6 has the same power plug but will not run the 1.4 board you have. dirtykash
Tried two identical power supplies both of which power another winbond board I have perfectly I don’t have any 1.6 models at the moment Edited September 6, 2020 by dirtykash
SS_Dave
Can you measure the voltage on the top left pin and any of the black wires while the 20 pin plug is unplugged from the main board. so the AC is plugged in and the power supply is not connected to the Xbox. dirtykash
Just done this on both power supplies and get top left blue -1.6v tip right white - 3.0v I also get 0v on the brown 6st wire down on both on both power supplies both are deltas and both work fine on my working board it has to be something else on the board is it worth changing more caps maybe the two bigger ones?
