the415giant
I have a v1.0 original modded Xbox, it had an old Aladdin mod chip, I wanted to upgrade the hard drive and after doing some research I found out I can brick it by flashing a new bios. The bios is unknown but after running bios checker it reads I have a lpc sst49lf020, it boots up xecuter2 into an evolution x dashboard. If I use the hexen 2019 disc, what steps can I take after I install a larger hdd? I don’t need to clone it, I backed up everything using ftp, and I want a fresh install. Here are some images that may help... Thanks for your time.
sweetdarkdestiny
It depends on how big your new hard drive is. Maybe there is no reason for flashing a new one. In case your new hard drive is below/or just 1 TB you're fine, no need for a new bios. If you update 1TB+ you would need new bios with 256kb F&G bios. I would use the iND 5004 or iND 5003.
the415giant
I have a 200gb now, and looking into a 320 or 500 gb ide drive, i also have a 2tb sata, but i rather not get the adapter and new cable. So if it's under 1tb, how would i install it? i have watched a few videos on it, but haven't seen my exact setup, do i have to clone the original drive to the new one or just install the new one and ftp everything from my backup on my pc? How do i go about upgrading a new hdd? Thanks for your response.
SS_Dave
If you are using a hard drive above 500 gb you should flash a new bios Use the IND-5004.67 Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
KaosEngineer
The BIOS the modchp currently has installed on it is Team Xecuter's X2 4980.06 version based on the kernel version number displayed above. One thing that most of the BIOS dev teams did is assign their kernel version the BIOS version dot LBA48 (.06 or .67) configuration setting (e.g., 4980.06). Only Team Evo-X kept the MS kernel version their BIOSes was based upon making it a bit hard to know exactly which BIOS is installed. The last two releases, M8 and M8plus, both have the same kernel version 5838.

Fit the new drive and load the install disk and then power cycle the Xbox, Most install disks can take 60-90 secondes to load so be patient. Then use the Chipped/TSOP flashed option to setup your new HDD . sweetdarkdestiny
Sry but i'm bussy with a xbox which get's a instand hot gpu because of changing caps (So wierd). So do it like Dave already wrote it's pretty simple and here is a video which show you the same: https://youtu.be/Rz7JHGkPBu0?t=564. After you set up your new hard drive you can flash a new bios (IND-5004.67) and you are ready in case you will swap your drive for the 2tb one. And from there just start over with the hexen disc again. Note: When you put a 2 TB had in your box make sure to format your drive twice. Formate - Reboot - Format again. Reason why is cuz XBpartitioner has a little bug with 16/64 kb cluster. In the first run the tool is not able to format the first pation with 64kb cluster.
the415giant
now i'm considering my 2tb hdd, i'm gonna order the ide adapter and the 80 pin ide cable if they're available. After i format the 2 tb drive twice, i just need to know how exactly do i flash the new bios? I know the hexen 2019 has a few different options, which one should i use? 3.2 not winbond or 3.3 winbond or sharp flash? Or 3.5? Im sure there are other options on the next screen after I make this choice. Thanks again. Edited August 13, 2020 by the415giant
SS_Dave
Use option 3.2 (Not Winbond) The look for IND 5004.67 Flash the BIOS 1st as that way the software can detect the hard drive correctly. the415giant
So I popped in the latest hexen just to see the process, In these pics, do I choose the 2nd choice flash 256k bios v1.0-1.5? Then after I choose that, I see there are three IND BIOS 5004 options, which one is the right one?

the415giant
What’s the difference between the evox m8 plus and the IND 5004? I appreciate the feedback.
SS_Dave
The Evox M8 BIOS will work on all versions of Xbox and can have a custom boot colors and the DVD check turned off and what dash to load 1st using a PC program to edit the bin file. EV Tool.zip evox_m8++_67.bin The iND 5004.67 (F and G) bios (will only work with a version 1.0 -1.4) can be customised using a config file on the C drive ind-bios.cfg Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
the415giant
So I opened up my Og Xbox to give it a good cleaning and replace the thermal paste, thought I’d show a pic of the mod chip, was wondering which chip it was and if it’ll make any difference to the process of upgrading my hard drive or if it’s all good. Thanks. Edited August 14, 2020 by the415giant
SS_Dave
It's your common garden variety Aladdin modchip, It uses a 256kb BIOS . I see it is wired to the power button so booting with the eject will disable the modchip and it probably has write protect unless you power on the Xbox with a 5 second press of the power button. I would remove the 2 wires going to the front panel and then link the BT to ground like this as it makes the modchip always active. remove the wire the blue arrow is pointing to and add a link like the yellow line. And flash it with a iND5004.67 or the EvoxM8+.67 bios file. Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
