Crystal XBox V 1.5

Recommended Posts

EDIT BY ADMIN: It's not a 1.5. No 1.5 has ever been found because it was a hoax and could not actually exist.

Well... Yesterday i got the old XBOX Crystal ( i spammed already in a other topc) and i was thought it's an v1.4 but it isn't (damit). It's an v1.5 Crystal which should be not realy exsist or at least it's a rar one?

Anyway, it's missing at least 1 point on the LPC port.

Since i never had a 1.5 I'm not realy sure if my plan, adding a Xenium and a Ram upgrade (the pads are still there on the 1.5 so i assume it would work?), will work on those.

Do i need some sort of LPC fix like in the 1.6? And out of curiosity, would a TOSOP flash be possible with the 1.5? My final question, are the cases still the same like the 1.3/1.4 or are they already different like the 1.6?

Below are some quick and dirty made pics. If someone whan't some in a better quality, let me know from what and i make some better pics for you.

That's a version 1.4

It has 256kb TSOP chip and the 2 TSOP write links are on the top of the board

And i would use the D0 on the bottom of the board

Also remove the Clock cap

The missing point is normal and not ever used.

Damn Dave, you're right (like always) and destroied my dream of becoming rich. :D ;)

I opended my other 1.4 and they are the same, except for the fan (Sunon (never saw one of these)) and the missing LPC solder point which my other 1.4 still has. Btw. i never realized that the 1.4 has still the fan mounting points for the GPU fan which make me wonder if you can simply solder a  header to it to use it for a fan?

And yes, i will replace the clock cap (3300uF 10 V) along with the 3 x 3300uF 6.3 V by the CPU since they looks like they will explode soon and i also replace the 3 x 1500uF 6.3 V and the one 3300uF 10 V close to the ATX connector, than she sould be fine.

With the TSOP is nice to know but since she' s just an "ordinary" 1.4 crystal she will get the xenium.

How ever, i much appreciated your help Dave. Thanks. :)

I am the same still looking for that unicorn Xbox as well.

My own Xbox's tend to get a ram upgrade,Internal HDMI,OGX-360 interface,New caps and a 2tb hard drive with only one having a modchip and that's the X3CP unit all the other get TSOP flashed.

The version 1.6 ones get aladdin chip and moved on.

Did you try the mod chip without the 2 links, I ask because no one else has ever reported having a 1.5.

Yes I did. And, it doesn´t work. So I measured the pin 2 and 9, and I realice that it was a 1.5

Apart from that, if you try to link the pins in a 1.4 you will short the circuit. That´s why I measured the pins with the polimeter.

Is a 1.5. No doubt about it. I can take more pictures if you want.

So we are not 100% sure anymore about the thing that mine is a 1.4? I have a multimeter here just in case.... The only difference i see in the pics is the golden clock capacitor.

Try to install the chip normally. And, if it does not work, measure the resistance between ground and pin 2.

Pin 1 is not ground Pin 2 is ground

Pin 4 in only there on a version 1.6 and the other version pin 4 is not available

Linking pin 2 to ground on any version is not going to damage it

Linking pin 9 to a 3.3 supply on any version is not going to damage it

Don't worry your Xbox is a 1.4.

I thought it will short the circuit.

Anyway, there are 1.5 crystals out there.

I have been modding my xbox this week. And, I spent a lot of time trying to guess why wasnt working the chip. Then I saw a post in reddit explaining hoy to measure the pins and linking the pin 2 and pin 9 works.

I hope this will be helpful for someone.

I have used this method:

With a multimeter set to measure the lowest resistance, take a reading between pin 2 and ground - touch one probe to pin 2 and the other to ground. Any of the pads where a screw holds the motherboard in the case can be used as a ground contact. If the reading is over range, a flashing 1  .  or 0L, then there is no connection from pin 2 to ground -- a v1.5 Xbox. Otherwise, your Xbox is a v1.4.

Just because you're not reading the continuity you expect doesn't mean it's a 1.5. 1.5 never existed, although open circuits in all electronics DO exist due to manufacturing defects and age. You just did trace repair on a faulty board. You didn't find a mythical xbox version that never existed.

The real question is: "What does this Xbox self-identify as?"

I have asked mine and it looks like she has multiple personalities. Aside she displays awful specs (Muste be a beta 1.4 close to 1.5).

Also she displays a weird error on the bottom (I have wrotge down the error to make it easyer to read).

The clock cap is a 1Farad 2.5Vdc super cap, not a 3300 microFarad cap.

why'd you think it was a v1.5 Xbox?

All v1.0-1.4 consoles have 15 holes in the LPC debug port.  There is no feedthru hole at pin location #4.

v1.6 consoles have all 16 pins feedthru holes present, but not v1.4's

So, are you sure the other Xbox you think is a 1.4 is not actually a 1.6?

People have reported that they have a 1.5 but after measuring the continuity between ground and the correct pin #2 not #1 that a YT video shows, they find they actually have a 1.4.

Those strings of hexadecimal text are most likely part of the background image used for the UnleashX skin, nothing more.

When converted to ASCII characters, It reads:
