rob3102
Hi all, I'm new to all this and would love to learn. I just bought an xbox and a modchip. Now I need to figure out what I'm doing.
SS_Dave
Hello rob3102 Welcome to ogxbox.com What sort of modchip and what version Xbox have you got? Cheers SS Dave Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.
rob3102
The manufactured date is 2005, so I'm assuming it's a 1.6. I ordered the Aladdin XT+4032.
SS_Dave
I would say yes it's a 1.6 The Aladdin chip is a rock solid mod chip, The only thing I found with the last batch I got it the BIOS needed to be reflashed to handle a 2tb hard drive. My tip if you are not used to soldering find a old circuit board to practice on 1st. If you get stuck just ask there is plenty of help here. rob3102
That's a great tip. Thank you! I've done some soldering, but not much on circuit boards. I'll get some practice in first.
imacomputa
What would you be doing with the xbox that would require a modchip?
rob3102
I’m wanting to upgrade the hard drive and would like to put coin ops or something like that on it.

Hi, you don’t need to hardmod to upgrade the hdd and load coinops, but it does make it easier as you don’t need to lock the hdd. Here’s a guide for the Aladdin install https://circuit-board.de/forum/index.php/Attachment/72198-Aladdin-XT-installation-Guide-pdf/.
rob3102
Thank you! I wanted to put a 1tb hard drive in and didn’t know the process or which hard drive without a hardmod. It’s little more work, but seemed worth it.
Ging3rguy
Use a decent sata adaptor and 80 wire ide cable with the new hdd, it will help with the boot times. Don’t expect it to load as quickly as the retail hdd.
