Ftp Speed Advice

Hello, I'm looking for some advice around improving my FTP speeds. I'm using WinSCP and both my Xbox and PC are connected to my router via Ethernet cables. I'm using XBMC4Gamers as my main dash but am loading into UnleashedX for FTP since I've read it should be faster. From what I've seen speeds approaching 10MB/s (even slightly above) should be common...

Still, when transferring to the console I'm currently lucky to get speeds of over 1MB/s - they're usually much lower and often only around 250KB/s. For some reason transferring from the Xbox to my PC gives much faster speeds at around 5MB/s. I've tried playing around with the max connections in UnleashedX, I had it set to 10 and have since set it to 2 and haven't seen any real improvement.

I have 2 tried different routers one was the ISP supplied unit and the other is Asus with custom firmware  both are about the same  if anything the Asus maybe a bit faster if it was not working harder as there is 25 wifi devices and 5 wired devices as I type this . I have also tried a direct cat5 from the computer and the Xbox and found no real improvement.

Unleash is supposed to be the faster dash for FTP but once again Evox was not that far behind  and with XBMC it was super slow.

Using a 8 year old I5 2gig ram desktop  and FATXplorer was around 20 times quicker the HDD's where 7200 rpm 2tb Sata drives. and some people are reporting about 500 gig in 60 minutes on a current computer so around 4 -5 hours for a 2tb.

Cheers

SS Dave

Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

Thanks for the replies.

I've hooked up my PC and Xbox to an ASUS RT-N56U rather than the cheap (but much newer) Technicolor EPC3940L from my cable provider. I'm now seeing consistent speeds of 10MB/s+ with occasionally dips to 5MB/s. Surprised at how terrible the cheap router had been performing.

Another option is a crossover cable, pc to Xbox, gets a transfer speed of 10MB/s +.
