Kink43
Hi. I'm a noob so may not be talking alot of sense. Go easy on me. I get the impression HDD is coded. And can be nulled when softmodding, but the code is not mentioned in mod chip tutorials. I am going to fit aladin xt modchip when it arrives. And replace HDD. I would like to use the dual functionality to boot stock dash board. And hold power for 1sec to use modchip. I just wondered whether in this case will the larger HDD be usable when booting up stock? KaosEngineer
Yes as long as it is locked. Locked means the ATA User Security password is set. This password is computed each time the console boots. It is computed using the HDDKey stored in the Xbox's configuration EEPROM and the model and serial number of the hard drive. The Xbox from the factory has a unique HDDKey and each hard drive will have a model number and unique serial number read from the drive to compute the unlocking password. Once unlocked using the correct password, data can be read from and stored to the hard drive.
Kink43
Thanks for your reply. So would I be able to lock the new HDD? Would I need to clone the original drive or can I just create new partitions using Installation disc?

Hi, you can lock the new drive once installed, you can clone or build the new drive using an install disk. You can load the ms dash from your chosen dash and then you don’t need to lock your hdd.
