Ssd Vs Hdd

Hello,

I've an OG xbox that I am gradually adding more and more mods to.
So far I've softmodded it and also refreshed the thermal paste on the CPU and GPU.

My next plan is to flash the TSOP using Hexen, and then replace the HDD.
The question is, SSD or HDD?

I'll be using a cheap eBay IDE to SATA adaptor, plus an 80 wire IDE cable.
My choice is between a 120 GB SSD, or a 500 GB HDD. These are both pretty much the same price.

Would there be any notable difference in using the SSD?
I'm probably not going to load too many games, but want to essentially load up the 'best of' xbox and then fill the rest of the space with emulators.

Thanks,

Go the 500gig hdd

I have used a 1tb samsung SSD and compared to a 7200rpm hard drive it was the  about same boot and load times but both where a  a little bit quicker than the stock 5400rpm hard drive.

Cheers

SS Dave

Soft modding is like masturbating, It gets the job done but it's nothing like the real thing.

It depends what you are looking for. Your xbox will run quieter with the SSD, as there is no moving parts. Where the HDD will offer more capacity.

Neither will show any difference in speed as the limitation is the IDE connection.

I would say there 500 gb is wasted if you arent gonna need more than 120gb.

What SSD were you planning on purchasing if I may ask?

It's a choice between these two, both the cheapest in my area:

The fact that the SSD is quieter is clutching at straws I have a 2007 WD500AAKB 500gig WD drive and the stock cooling fan running at 30% makes more noise than the hard drive so a 2020 hard drive is going to be quieter  also coinops 8 is 85gig's on its own that's over 1/2 of the SSD your looking at.

Also I am not a big fan of the Green style hard drives for Xbox use unless you can disable the power save feature.
