wh1pl4sh
Hi everybody, I'm new to the Community. Recently I've been watching some original Xbox repair videos on Youtube and now I'm eager to recover mine and use it to run games and emulators. My configuration is quite atypical. I have a version 1.6 board, mounting a v 2.40 Cromwell bios, a 40 gb Maxtor HDD and a Philips J53235C as DVD, equipped with a full Gentoox installation, to run as home server. I assume the machine has been originally modded (maybe TSOPped), but at first glance I'm not able to locate any modchip. I'd like to replace the Cromwell and flash some customized bios, but most of the AIO isos available online are not working for me, as the Cromwell keep searching for a missing bootlinux.cfg file. Where do I start from? Thanks in advance for your support.
KaosEngineer
Can you currently boot into Linux (GentooX) on the console? You can use raincoat in Linux to reflash the TSOP BIOS as long as the write enable points are still bridged; however, hacked BIOS's don't load Linux. They are used for normal Xbox operations like Playing Games.
wh1pl4sh
I stand corrected, I've opened it and found an Aladdin XT, though seems that the guy that modded it years ago didn't make all the required solders. I've hopefuly redone them following some online guides for v.1.6, and the Xbox it's again booting correctly in Gentoox, that though is now asking me to insert a password I can't remember using an unfriendly virtual keyboard ... :( Is there any alternative solution/tool I could use to get rid of the Cromwell? KaosEngineer
Doesn't Cromwell have an option to flash the modchip? It should allow you to connect to the Xbox via a network connection using a web browser to reflash the modchip.
wh1pl4sh
Minor update: I've managed to login into gentoox with the default credentials(root/xbox), and the machine is now reachable with ssh and sftp. I've firstly tried to experiment with raincoat and make a dump of the actually installed bios, but the result is a "raincoat Invalid manufacturer ID: 0x09" error with the suggestion to check again all soldering points. For reconstructing the LPC the board has a soldered custom pcb, originally provided with the modchip.
